Oh no, this is beyond the pale.  Sarah was a great Zoner and a good presence on the black screen through all these years.  Another one of you folks I never got to meet in person, but had shared many of the same spaces over the years via our common interests.  I admired her plain spokeness, and looked forward to meeting someday.  Her fondness for sailing, baseball, food and family were palpable.  Her presence will be missed.  Crushing loss.

This is such sad news. Sweet, sharp-tongued, loving, scathing, gentle, hard-hitting, loyal... I'll miss her. Sarah was a strong woman.

She was a terrific aunt, sister and daughter, both ferocious and tender in her caring, We texted on occasion about her family. She was so devoted to them and it was crushing when her mom died.

I loved her knowledge and appreciation of music.

She was sick a couple of weeks ago, hospitalized in enormous pain with kidney stones...

Rest In Peace Sarah.

My heart breaks on this one.  Sarah and I made a point to meet each other at Langerado in 2006.  She gave me a big genuine hug and the best trickster smile.  I was proud to call her a friend, and to salute each other through the interwebs, to offer words of comfort in hard times, laughs in good ones.  To share music.  She did indeed have great taste in music.  
It is strange to have this news hit so hard....I suppose this speaks to what a lot of you wonderful people mean to me.  Be safe.  Know you are loved, truly, by me....and others too.  When you take the oath of Philzone Love Mob, it is forever....we have your back.  Rest in Power, Sarah4Winds.  Let the gusts fill your sails.

It's odd how in a certain way the characters that populate the black screen, specifically the ones I haven't met in 3D, have seemed to me to be just that... characters, so when the news of one of us passing comes, it's difficult to comprehend.

4Winds was a classic zone character. Funny, sharp, opinionated, fiery, never afraid of conflict, and a big sports fan. In my recollections she was a Cubs devote, and wasn't she the one who had a complete meltdown at Felina, another huge Cubs fan, for comments he made after the Cubs lost a playoff series a few years ago? That was one of the most complete melts I can remember. I could feel the classic irrational sports fan energy coming right through the screen, and it made me like & appreciate her more.

If possible & acceptable, at some point it would be nice to see a photo of her, as that helps put the human side of the character in place.

Sandwiches. Let's all enjoy 'em while we can.

Heartbroken to hear this today. We shared a lot of the same tastes in music. We emailed a few times over the years when we thought there was a good new band to share. I was also a part of that incredible Langerado '06 crew/experience. 

I somehow avoided her sharp wit and I was kinda happy and proud of the fact that she seemed to like me. Cuz like B I was kinda intimidated by her Haha

Such godawful news. Feels odd to be so sad for someone I never actually met. Four Winds had some great taste in music obviously, but she was also hilarious, sharp. Seemed to have a heart of gold.

Seems I only post in the bad news threads on viva lately, never met Sarah face to face but she was a zoner I respected and we chatted a bit, more so on facebook lately. She gave me the shamey fingers when needed. This comes as a real shock to me, she seemed to have her shit together and would be around for a long time. Hope she finds peace. Hug the ones you love friends.  {{{{{love you all}}}}} 2021 sure seems terrible so far from my vantage point.

Difficult to find words. It was always worthwhile to see what she was listening to but that is just a color and shade of a person, and what lies beneath is beyond our ability to know, but only to guess, and it is a privilege to be shown and to share. I never got to meet Sarah but I feel privileged to have seen that beautiful shade of her person.

And I hope she is at peace.

I was told of her passing this morning and I thought about what she meant to me and life on the Zone- all fucking day.

Somehow we never met, but if you were a Zoner - you knew-

4 Winds was OG - all the way. A MAJOR  VOICE HERE... for so long!

Convoluted tribe that the Zone has always been -her voice was always here and it's hard to see one of us go....so young.

Tough Zoner WOMEN are rare and I have to say

Never met the gal in person but we mailed back and forth in Florida and Chicago.

She was a good one and will be deeply missed by so many.

Sarah - one of the best Zoners ever.
She knew when to burn you, but, more importantly, she knew when to back off - something that some zoners never seem to learn - including me.

We talked off board sometimes - mostly about music, of course - but the last thing we talked about was her recent kidney stone because she knew I had had one too. My last words to her were to make sure she had her Dr. prescribe her the "real good" drugs and she assured me that he had taken care of that. I sure hope her passing was peaceful.
 

Dammit! I will miss her - as we all will.

I am so very sad over this. And shocked. Sarah was one of my favorite people, her spirit and energy were fierce. When Covid is over and we can travel and gather again, we need celebrate and throw it down hard for our girl.

I send my heartfelt condolences and prayers on this sad news. Zoner losses hurt. 

Folks have talked about our connections to each other and the music that has drawn us together and remains a strong bond that continues to unite us. Through many years even. 

Reminded me of how I smiled reading the first sentence of this obituary last week as a 75 year-old man passed away in a small southern Utah town. He ran a shuttle service in Zion NP and loved animals. 

LaVerkin, Utah— Rich passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side while listening to the Grateful Dead on December 29, 2020.

Hey all, Just checking back on this thread. Thought I'd organize the pro-tree names to start a roll call list, below.

Looks like we are on our way to a second grove since we already have 10. 

Also looks like there's support for white oak and flowering trees. My only preference regarding a tree is that they are native to wherever they are planted, so that they will have a greater chance of survival. Trees need a lot of water for the first few years after planting.... so I'll reach out to the forest org that does the plantings to ask more questions.

Regarding $$$, please wait for Roshambo to post her preferences for electronic payment... we talked on Friday but that detail wasn't a topic. 

Who are the poets among us? I love the ideas about finding lyrics or writing something original to honor Sarah.

I'm writing w/ a tree update after an online chat w/ the Tribute Store for the American Forestry Assoc: 

• We cannot specify tree species. 
• We cannot specify regions for planting. 
• They assured me that we can take comfort that the correct species will be planted in the appropriate growing environments at significant reforestation projects (California is on the list)... and that eventually, those strong 4Winds trees will absorb carbon and help the planet for future generations.

Hello,   This email is in response to your inquiry regarding information on your memorial tree 

Our memorial trees will be planted where reforestation is needed most, in one of this year's project areas stated below and list on the map. We will do our best to ensure your tree is planted in the project closest to the funeral home.

We do not have the exact date of planting, but updates are sent out twice a year, in June and December, through email to notify customers where their tree was planted.

Ohh Myyy, I was private messaged by another zoner today, and just so saddened by this tragic news .

Sarah always kept me on my toes in here, I admired her for her wit and ability to come back with some really funny stuff.  She and I exchanged a few kind words at times and she did have great taste in music from what I remember.  I think she knew I was in over my head from the my very first post here...... ;). 


She was pretty young from what I remember and I hope she didn't suffer with illness or pain, sending Love and Condolences to those that knew her here and her family.


May she rest in eternal Peace and Forever Music with all the greats ...above !

I'd be happy to contribute to and offer to host and care for a 'Zoner Grove' of trees/plantings for all of our departed friends on my property.

Where is your property at and what are the native trees there?

Do you really want the extra water bill? (unless you have a well)

Are you going to own it for many more years?

I don't want to disturb anything that's in the process.  I was reflecting back to all those that passed and wanted to make the offer.  

I'm in CT. 

Pines, Maples, Oak are natural here.    The winters, though they are getting less harsh, still pack a punch.  There are certainly many types of trees that would not thrive here -- though I'd be happy to cover for the winter.  I have no plans of leaving anytime soon and would always be open to visitors.  We have a well --- so no water $ issues.

I was going to order the trees tomorrow... was waiting for final count.

Jonas- I think you should host the next East Coast Zoner Jam and when we show up- we will all bring and plant a tree or flowers.

Nice way to bring us all together and remember Zoners who have passed... I live in CA, but would love to organize something, somewhere ... We need a good jam and hangout after Covid is behind us!

How bout a West Coast Grove + East Coast Grove 

I'm also in Ct and can lend a hand, mostly in a supervisory role of course,  to such a project. Many more species of trees grow in the east, and a buch of gorgeous perennials mixed in with evergreen and deciduous would be really special. I can even supply a lot of perennials. 

I can see it now,,,,,, this is the Brother's Ragweed section - these fuckers never stopped bitchin

And you can will it to a local Land Trust when you go, so it'll be there forever.

Piggybacking on the mention above of ECZJ.....  I'm hoping that we can pull together a bigger and better West Coast Zoner Jam at the same Oregon coast location as last year.... hoping that the weekend of the Perseid meteor showers will work out, that's usually the 2nd weekend of August.   ...acknowledging that this is all pending on the damn pandemic, and hoping that vaccines will be available to all by that month... will start a thread in a few months once we can tell what the summer situation will bring...

I stumbled upon another cool location -- a retreat center near Pescadero (about 1 hr away from SFO) w/ way more beds, swimming pool, hot tub, yurt, fire circle and 20 acres that's available to rent...it's pretty sweet, and in the Bay area... much higher price tag, though...check it out...https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/vac/d/pescadero-big-lodge-at-beautiful/...    

Was thinking this location might be easier to visit for not only Zoners but also any Bay area musicians who are friends-of-Zoners ;)

Don't have a spot to offer on the West coast for trees, but I love the idea of a Zoner grove on each coast, eventually.

Hey I hope it doesn't mess anything up for the organizers but I was anxious to send timely condolences since her tribute wall was completely blank, so I just bought a memorial tree for Sarah from the Funeral home's website LLOLLO posted. My memory functions are fried so I was worried I'd forget to check this thread or my email and cause issues. At any rate you can take my name of the list of people to contact since my tree has been taken care of. I'd still like to be included on the zoner note to her family and I thank Roshamo and LLOLLO for taking charge of that.

We just purchased the trees in 3 online orders and they charged me $36.85 in fees.

If anyone wants to chip in on that, great.... otherwise I'll cover it!

Greetings, I'm happy to report that all the transactions have been completed to purchase 29 trees this morning + the tree from Dise, for a group total of 30, WOW!!!

While we can't visit this tree grove, we will be notified regarding the location of the plantings, which happen in June and December ... here's the message from the receipt:

What happens now?

Our partner at American Forests Organization will coordinate planting the trees you’ve purchased with one of their ReLeaf restoration projects. Twice a year, they will plant native trees in an area that needs the most help with restoration efforts.  Once your trees have been planted, we will send you an email with the planting location and more details about the project your trees supported. Keep an eye on your inbox in June for an update!

Her taste in music was exquisite and her wit, impeccable! She will be dearly missed.
