Received jab #2 yesterday around 3pm. By midnight, I felt like I got hit by a car. No joke - every joint hurt and I just tossed and turned all night. Woke up early and took ibuprofen and slept most of today. 3pm and I'm starting to come around. Brutal but not as bad as actual shingles I'm told. YMMV.

I think I felt kind of sick
I think I felt kind of sick for 24 hours or so, but can't remember details. Way better than actual shingles, and way better than the post-herpetic pain can go on for a long time.
Glad you're starting to come back from it, and that it's done.

Got 'em last summer with no bad reaction. Same as the COVID. Not much at all. Had the single Zostavax years ago, but got told this new Shinrix is really effective.
Glad ya got 'em, Stringtwang. Shingles is horrible. Have a buddy in southern Utah suffering now.

Shingles was the beginning of the end for my grandmother, who was in her 90s.
I'm going to look into what age these jabs should happen.
Stay healthy,

CDC recommends that healthy adults 50 years and older get two doses of the shingles vaccine called Shingrix (recombinant zoster vaccine), separated by 2 to 6 months, to prevent shingles and the complications from the disease.

Thanks Slickrock.
Thanks Slickrock.
I suppose that I'm eligible for the vaccine. My PCP hasn't brought it up, but I think that I'll check in with him about it.

Well, I suppose that a lot of hippies are over 50 years-old at this point...
My Grandma was in a lot of pain from the shingles (after reading the CDC article, I think that she was suffering from postherpetic neuralgia). She had to take some heavy duty pain meds, which made her loopy and contributed to injury from falls. Not a great way to go.

Hey Racket, do you know anyone who has had shingles? Preventing that intense pain, the other sensations that go with it and other sequellae is a good gift to give yourself. Working in doctors' offices I've met and known more than a few people with shingles. It totally sucks.

I got my two shingles shots
I got my two shingles shots last year after watching a 53 yr old friend suffer through 2 weeks of shingles. I had a bit of a sore arm and tired for one day, same as the Pfizer shots. You'll wish you had only rolled around naked in poison ivy compared to having shingles. Good luck to those who shun it.

Statistics show about 1
Statistics show about 1 million Americans suffer from Shingles each year. About 50‰ of people who live to 85 get shingles.
So your odds increase as you age.
It's also possible to go blind if it gets in your eye.
I'm not one to run to the doctor easily but I have people who depend on me so I do what I can to avoid getting sidelined by preventable illness.
We all make decisions based on the information we have.
Letting nature take its course doesn't always turn out well.
Yes, I got whooped by the vaccine for 24 hours but today I feel good and I'm planning on going for a bike ride.

I received the Shingrix
I received the Shingrix vaccine about 4 years ago. 24 hours of lethargy after receiving each dose but totally worth it.
My neighbor also received the vaccine and got Shingles about a year ago, even though Shingrix is a much more effective vaccine than the previous vaccine . It was of little comfort that her doc told her that she had a 'mild case' because she was vaccinated because even a mild case sucks. Nerve pain sucks.
Her doc said that it was likely pandemic Stress that allowed shingles symptoms to emerge and was seeing more cases in the past year, she was the only case her doc saw in someone who had been vaccinated with the Shingrix vaccine.

Looked into it and found that, with only basic Medicare, which is what I have, Shingrix costs almost $200 per shot!
Can't afford that right now.

Disco figures he 100% wont be in this group
Got my second shot little over a month ago, chills and sweats overnight, but better than the shingles.
Waited 30 days and as planned PA released more vax, so I got my first Covid-19 Friday.
