Watering Thread

Forums:

Looking for tips or suggestions for small gardening.

I currently filter my h2o through a spa and pool filter and have been ph-ing now for the 2nd season.

my question to you guys is any recommended systems/watering cans/methodologies?

I have 3 girls in various sized containers, and 2 others at my neighbors. one of which is in the ground.

it has been seasonably cloudy/cool as to be expected here by the coast so haven't had to water often...

i just started mixing up fert/water in a 5 gal bucket, but its hard to pour off into a smaller watering can or such deal. something should improve here...

also do use a moisture meter which is great.

basically have to find a better distribution system. ideas?

I use a 2-gallon plastic watering can, Turtle. I'm growing in 10-gallons fabric pots this season, and that works pretty well. I add the nutes and pH down in the watering can, which can get a bit tedious (and especially now that's it's gotten hot up here; I'm watering pretty much every day with 1.5-2.0 gallons per plant), but it's still better than lugging something bigger around. Don't you have problems with one of your shoulders?

I don't use a moisture meter, but instead lift my pots frequently. You get a feel for what's light and what's heavy pretty quick. Like in a few days. When they're light, I water; when they're heavy, I don't.

yeah was hoping to mix upp 1 batch and then be able to ration out to an easier delivery canister w/o spilling. shoulders what it is but i can lift ok.

Maybe you need a big funnel?

I also use a 2 gal watering can. Right now I water 1-2x a week, depending on how hot and dry it is. I give nutes about every other watering. Water out of my tap is 5.8 pH, so I don't have to fuck with it.

My 4 main plants are on 15 gal soft pots. Each gets a gal per watering right now. I adjust as the plants get bigger. It's unscientific, but it seems to work.

I also have 4 autoflowers, each in 5 gal pots. Right now 2 gals feeds them all. I'm not as aggressive with the nutes on those girls, but I'll probably up them in a few weeks.

So what are you guys growing this year? It's just been me and a few others posting over on this side so far this season.

One thing I've used successfully over and over is a 1/6th hp sump pump ($60 on amazon) hooked to a standard garden hose with a decent watering wand/with shut-off valve and place that in a 10 to 20 gal common storage tote.  Just make sure you know the gallons needed to water all of your plants. As your plants are growing, this gallonage will increase. If you have six plants and they each take 2 gals. now, then purchase a 20 gallon tote, etc. This also saves time and frustration with only needing to pH one time and not having to make multiple trips. Make however many gallons it will take to water all of your plants, add nutes, pH the final solution, put the sump pump in and water/feed all of your plants.  Old stoners need to work smarter, that's for sure. The only  barrier is you'll need an electrical outlet  (standard 120v) to power the sump pump. Never used a moisture meter, always went by the bag weight. Maybe I should be using one. I hope this helps. Good luck, guys!!!

Tried and true method - and admittedly I don't always get the time to do -  50-100 gallon rain bucket.  Buy guano, sea kelp, bone meal. Fill bucket with water -- hook up a fish tank air stone that is on 24/7.  As the bucket keeps filling with water add a cup of each fert.  If you don't get much rain add water w fert.  Keep the air stone rolling.   This is for inground plants only.  Way too much food for potted plants.

I have 2 Scooby Snacks, 2 Gold Leaf, 2 Blueberry auto flower and 2 CBD Kush auto flower (1:1).

The Scooby are new genetics. These ones are beautiful indoors, and I'm psyched to see how they are in the elements. I'm most excited for the Gold Leaf. It's Bergman's (ILGM) "special" strain.  The exact lineage hasn't been made public, but they are supposed to be strong, disease resistant, and yield 28-32 oz per plant.

thanks for the pro tips joe and jonas.

been really cloudy/overcast here so not yet having to do too much.

my friend does also use a large toter that he fills.

growing so far:

3 cherry bomb clones. 1 big, went in the ground. the other 2 smaller ones I kept in a 5 gal softbag and a 10 gal? pot.

2 matanaska's seeds. (london pound cake xak47). i should have pinched these off, they are growing really vertically. only did 1 pinch. these are both in soft 5 gals.

2 of these are at my neighbors who has a bigger yard. however worried about light pollution from the dork on the other side that always seems to have a floodlamp on in the back...
