Dave's Picks Vol 21

Forums:

Anyone get there's yet? Looks like I will be receiving mine tomorrow. Very psyched, it's like Christmas 4 times a year for me :)

4-2-73, from the Bawstin Gah-den. I do miss that shithole of a venue.

How do you know when it's coming?

First time subscriber this year. Nice Christmas gift!

they seem to send out an email at shipment, if you are a subscriber.  ( I got notified yesterday around noonish, that it had shipped).

Tracking# attached to email.  Mine has been received in Albany...arrival tomorrow hopefully!

Ok thanks.

My subscription was a gift so chances are they gifter used their own email.

Makes sense.

first time subscriber too; heard the WRS>Eyes>China Doll segment on Xirius the other day. Sounded great, it'll be here tomorrow

I was at that show - I have an aud but not subscribed to DP. sad.

I should get it in a couple of days.  The Eyes and HCS jam seem to be highlights of this show based on the reviews.

It came today :-) yes

motherfucking post office got it yesterday but it wasn't delivered today.....angry

Yup ... another happy 1st timer today

Love checking the mail box for some good ol Grateful Dead

The transition between the Weather Report Suite intro and the Eyes is one of my all-time favorite GD moments. Absolutely sublime stuff.

just fell in my mailbox

pbay next week.

Arrived yesterday and finally getting a chance to give it a spin.  Sounds pretty fantastic two songs in!

wife was gone all day today. spent the entire afternoon just listening to this in the mancave. so sweet sounding, 1st time i've just sat & listened to a show in a long time. it was an emotional experience, many beautiful moments on each disc. just wow.

Spiders

Snakes!

Tarantulas!

Definitely enjoying it.
As with most 73, the playing is sublime.
My only complaint is my usual complaint about this period. The vocals sound shallow and a little thin & reedy.
I know it's a function of the mics the band had developed at the time, with the phase cancelling benefit.

That said, it's the reason 1973 is not a go-to year when I'm picking something out. I am enjoying this show a lot, it's massive, but I can't help wishing that maybe a good 83 would come out soon!

>>>  it's the reason 1973 is not a go-to year when I'm picking something out.

73 seems to be the most chaotic of the "no-mickey" years.

71 is earthy

72 is the shit.

73 a bit weird

74 a rich deep complex beauty...but the psychadelic spark was hard to find under the beauty of the music.

75 - rarin to go, a beast in winter

76 - work mickey back in, slower and trippier

77 - the cocaine kicks in -> disco

78 - maybe a little too much cocaine?

79 - disco marries trippy

80 - meh, I think Phil admist to being drunk the entire year

81 - trippy starts to win out, Phil might still be drunk but the boys were starting to have fun again

82 -  psychadelics win again

83 - more really good psychadelics

84 - heroin

85 - meh

86 - uggg

87 - Dylan

88 - meh

89 - good drugs again.

90 - awesome until Brent kicked.,

The end.

....

1973 is personally my favorite year.  For me, less satisfying is all the other GD years.  Once again to each his or her own.

Side note: 1969 ain't bad either, I just think the skill level of the musicianship is stronger 4 years later.

I was at this shoe & have decent quality boards starting from HCS, but it's nice having a high quality sound of the whole.

WIth the exception of Playin', the band is going through the songs in the first set, quickly.  No noodleing 2 B found.

Jerry's singing is so on. As most times with Jerry, his emotions R are all there then some.

At the time, there is so much material that was new (meaning less then two years old).

IMHO, while the first set is decent, it is not spactacular.

Set 2 is a whole other matter.  The jam after HCS is what kept me coming back 2 see this band.

Sure there are better shoes from this year, but listining 2 this is a treat.
