First, there's no Dylan of any "generation" other than Dylan. Second, Ryan wrote some good songs and crafted some good, sometimes great soundscapes. At best, he would never be anything more than the "Ryan Adams of his generation."
On a few occasions, those Cardinals shows in the mid 2000's, were the best mixed rooms I've ever heard.
Like, amazing.
Not sure how much Ryan had to do with that impeccability, but it was present.

That comment is totally spot on, Cam. One any given night, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals could be the best act in the land, on stage AND in one's ears. At least to me, they were able to take the "Best Show I've Ever Seen" title. Magic could transpire on any given night and it's funny that you posted this when you did. As your were posting, I was listening to a show that we both attended in Portland, ME back in 2007. They opened the night with the best version of "Goodnight Rose" any of us had heard and there was some sort of equipment and/or meniere's problem that had Ryan stopped the show to get fixed after a few songs. After it was, he started the show over and proceeded to do an even better version of "Goodnight Rose."
Now that is MAGIC.
p.s. What was the name of the "special" pizza that we had somebody order post-show?
Lol, what a great night. Very cool when you pointed Ryan out on the street, so Jen could go meet & talk to him.
Omg, latenight crazy spot Bill's Pizza (now gone I think, after decades of whacko service).
Some psychedelic seafood pie of some sort? Help me out, lol...
It was a great day and night. No matter where I went that day, Ryan showed up and I was happy to point out him and Johnny T. walking towards the venue surrounded by people going to the show and oblivious to him walking along with them.
As for the pizza, it was something Acid pizza. I think you are right about it being seafood and the way it was ordered I remember both of us wondering if it was actual "electric" pizza. Good times.

Ryan Adams could have been the Ryan Adams of your generation.
Instead he was just the Ryan Adams he was.
Still, the dude can sing like an angel, he wrote some good songs and played some good shows.
That's better than nothing.
