I have an appointment for next Tuesday, didn't want it this week because I have medical appointments I don't want to have to cancel if I'm feeling ill from the vaccine.
No rush, but I have a couple of immune system disorders, and one of the meds I'm on suppresses my immune system, so I'd rather get my 4th jab sooner rather than later.
Vaccinated, boosted, and I had the Omicron. With no underlying health issues, I'm in no rush to get another shot.
As Congress hasn't authorized more Covid vaccine money, once the current vaccine stock is gone it will no longer be free. Probably a good time to buy Moderna stock.
Being a blood doner has many pluses. After analyzing your blood they tell you all kinds of shit about it, one thing being your covid antibody rate. After original shot (1 j + j) and 1 booster (moderna) my antibody rate is rated Reactive Plus which means my covid antibodies are so high they can use my blood for covid patients. So I'm gonna wait, maybe till fall, to get my next booster. If you want to be sure how you're systems holding up against this fucking thing, give some blood, they'll tell ya what's going on in there.
Being a Blood Donor in Florida has pluses, free T Shirt or blanket, and a $20 gift card, bottle of apple juice and a cookie, that's all I got today. Not complaining that's what they always give me. No Covid info, they stopped that a while back I was told. Only thing they told me was I have a high Iron count and thanks. DeSantis
Received my covid booster, flu vax and shingles vax all in one day. Was feeling ill for about 7 hours. Went grocery shopping the next day. Wasn't a bad experience for me.

I think being very well hydrated for any of these injections is really helpful in mitigating reactions.
I was told at Walgreens the other day that you need to be at least four months past your last jab to get #4. Unfortunately, I was two weeks short of that, so I'll have to get it done in a couple of weeks.
The vaccines and boosters DO significantly reduce risk for COVID severity and risk for long COVID. But, they're not perfect.
I know yet another person dealing with Long Covid syndrome who was Vaccinated, Boosted and had an asymptomatic case back in January. Still glad I've gotten #4 and will gladly get #5 in the fall to reduce the odds of getting Covid/Long Covid.
Woke up this morning, got on line with CVS, scheduled #4 for 10:00 today, got the jab, now home.
4 months 3 days since jab #3.
Hopefully mild side effects, #1 and #2 were a little rough, first booster was fine.
A workmate went to Genesis final show in London and caught it, he's been boosted once, and he's feeling not so great with it now. He's a very careful meticulous guy who took all the precautions he could and was feeling like things were loosening up enough to go.
We'll see. While they checked for vaccination on the way into Radio City this weekend, practically no one wore masks. With all the crowd sing-alongs and close talking going on, you'd think if this thing were particularly viral, these shows would be a super-spreader event. I'm thrice-jabbed and feeling healthy, fwiw.
My cousin, who I went with on Sunday night, is unvaccinated and is convinced that the pandemic is a hoax/scam, perpetuated by the pharmaceutical industry. He argues that the vaccine has not stopped people from getting the virus, that transmission and death rates are lower in the countries with smaller GDP's that couldn't afford the vaccines than in the industrialized, wealthier countries, that no one knows the long-term affects of MRNA vaccines as they are untested, and that people in general have been unable to accept that 10,000 people a day were dying worldwide anyway before this pandemic, and we are all being conned by propaganda.
Not a popular notion here, I know, but my cousin isn't an idiot or a nut job, just a guy who's good with statistics and numbers who is retired at 53 with nice houses in New York and New Orleans. I'm not saying I agree with his pitch, but I want to hear why I should be in a hurry to get another booster.
Hi Racket! Yes, if I need something and they're going to a store and I offer to shop for them if I'm going. I thought I explained how it works. Happy to provide a refresher for you.
My friend still shops for me, and I also use curbside pickup by ordering in advance and picking up goods at another grocery store, the meat market and the department store. I've gone into a couple of stores in the last couple of weeks and it felt weird and freeing. I wear a mask everywhere I go once I get out of the car, including parking lot pick ups. I spend a lot of time in medical and P.T./O.T. appts, all in mask.
You shouldn't be in a rush, Dave. I'm not and I know lots of others who also aren't. It's purely a choice, and there's plenty of good reasons to back whatever you decide.
My cousin, who I went with on Sunday night, is unvaccinated and is convinced that the pandemic is a hoax/scam, perpetuated by the pharmaceutical industry. <<
Not a popular notion here, I know, but my cousin isn't an idiot or a nut job,<<
>>the pandemic is a hoax/scam, perpetuated by the pharmaceutical industry.
Shouldn't the person who says this have to show at least one piece of evidence to back it up. If this is true I would love to see the evidence.
>>>He argues that the vaccine has not stopped people from getting the virus.
This is absolutely not true. Like any vaccine it isn't 100% effective which people like this use to "prove their point". It stops a lot of people from getting it, but not all. Just like many vaccines.
>>>that transmission and death rates are lower in the countries with smaller GDP's that couldn't afford the vaccines than in the industrialized, wealthier countries,
Not true look at India, but as with all these "theories" hard to prove but three years from now someone will do a study and prove it isn't true and no one will care. There is a kernel of truth here when you look at tropical Africa, but India has been decimated by the virus. This is typical argument used by people when we have a new virus and they latch on to something that is currently unknown to say 100% a hoax. Nope we just don't know yet.
>>>no one knows the long-term affects of MRNA vaccines as they are untested
Sure but you can say this about any new medical treatment. I hope this person rejects all the new gene therapy treatments when it comes to cancer and the anti-virals for Covid. Also how much amateur pharmacology has this person partaken in over their lifetime.
>>>and that people in general have been unable to accept that 10,000 people a day were dying worldwide anyway before this pandemic, and we are all being conned by propaganda.
Way more that 10K a day die every day. https://www.worldometers.info/ but we know how many people die in an average year and the rate is up. So also not true.
What we do know is that when you get the booster your chances of being exposed to the virus and not getting it are at about 90% and then it goes down over time. Your chances of not needing to be hospitalized stay about the same whether you are boosted or not. If the vaccine makes you really sick I wouldn't get boosted right now. I would take my chances with the anti-virals, but for everyone else there is no reason not to get boosted. I get number 4 on Friday.
Problem with that strategy is that the anti virals need to be taken very soon after infection, and my understanding is that they're in short supply and not available at most pharmacies. Apparently hospital pharmacies have them, but mostly for patients already hospitalized.
Thanks for the thoughtfully worded response kxela. That's helpful. I'll share that with my cousin, but he's pretty stubborn, so I doubt he'll change his mind.
>>the vaccine makes you really sick I wouldn't get boosted right now
That's where I'm at. The booster fucked me up for a few days. Although the Rona lasted longer for me, it was 10x milder than the vaccine.
The science is showing that I'll have super immunity until early June. That coincides nicely with the summer drop-off rates that we've seen. I'll assess whether or not to get the booster in the Fall.
I donate to one blood in Florida and they are partnered with the Red Cross. I did sign in to my account and they did test for the Covid antibodies, and I was negative. The nurse drawing my blood was wrong, fake news. I had the sense the nurse was somewhat anti-Vax in saying the vax is good for high risk people only and the rest will just get a cold.
My antibodies are so positive they told me a 4th booster now would do little to no good. So I'm waiting. My next blood donation (every 2 months) will keep me antibody updated so I'll judge my need for another vax on that.
Science
She blinded me with
I had zero reaction after my 1st booster, and a very minor 12 hour one after my initial shot, jnj.
>>>Thanks for the thoughtfully worded response kxela. That's helpful. I'll share that with my cousin, but he's pretty stubborn, so I doubt he'll change his mind.
I would bet $100 that your cousin is watching Fox News and or listening to conservative talk radio. Here is the real conspiracy. Every one of his points can be traced back directly to Russian disinformation which is amplified by Fox because they can make money off it.
As for the vaccine I know some people who have had a real bad reaction to it like major rheumatoid arthritis flare ups. You can't expect people like that to get boosted every few months, and when I said the protection against getting the virus goes down over time it goes way down to below 50% over the course of months, but it does keep you out of the hospital for extended periods. 87% of the people who have died of Covid since we have had the vaccine have been unvaccinated.
I have had no symptoms from shots 1 and 2 and felt like crap for a few days with shot 3 but I also got a flu shot at the same time with that one. For me it's a no brainer. I want that 90% protection even if it is only for a few months, because we don't know what fucker variant is around the corner.
Friend tested negative on Saturday, we went fishing and took in Brit Floyd Saturday night, woke up Sunday morning and he tested positive. He was vaxxed and boosted 1x and feels like he has a head cold and minor sore throat. I'm still negative for nasal swab at home testing and have an employer funded saliva test scheduled for tomorrow.
It was freeing to be out and social and seeing live music and I enjoyed it, but it feels like this thing is waiting in the wings to swoop down at any chance it gets.
An abundance of caution is great, an abundance of love for your community and family is better, I think.
Covid will be around for a while and unfortunately even people who get asymptotic cases are susceptible to Long Covid syndrome. The Health care system is going to be (already?) overwhelmed trying to address the Covid related health issues, which appears to be mostly caused by inflammation - negative impact on heart, lungs and the brain. Blood clots are also an issue. Doctors recognizing Long Covid are using d- dimer test to help diagnose if there's risk of blood clots.
The antibody tests aren't perfect, but can also verify that someone dealing with symptoms actually had Covid at some point. This syndrome reminds me of Chicken pox and later emergency of Shingles, which is why most kids are now vaccinated for Chicken pox. And yeah, many more people dying from Covid than Chicken pox, just saying the complications can be greatly reduced by getting vaccinated and boosted.
I don't think my bud caught his covid Saturday while being out, he was incubating from a now known (today) previous exposure that ended up be detected after our outing, ends up he was exposed Thursday, tested negative Saturday, then tested positive Sunday.
We do all we can.

I got all 4 Moderna but would have taken Pfizer if that's what was being offered. My husband had 3 Pfizer and #4 Moderna Supposedly mix and match is fine. And recommended if the 1st jab was J&J
All Pfizer shots 1 -> 4. I was wondering if a mix and match might be better, kinda like an umbrella approach. What one missed the other might cover? Confusing.......
I think it won't make a difference until there's a change up the vaccine production which will include additional protection against a variety of Covid strains, which is expected to happen later in the fall. And when there's more evidence to show that there's a difference between the MRNA vaccine efficacy.
I had Pfizer for all 4. My only side-effects from #4 were an 1 1/2 hour day sleep on the day I got it and felt like I had a "cold" the next day. Tired, sniffly, that's about it. Less than any of the first 3.
Just booked #4 for Tuesday. Clicked the Moderna option after three Pfizers, which all beat me up for a full day.
Going about this one differently. Instead of staying up after work and getting an early shot, and then sleeping, I'm going to get plenty of ZZZs beforehand and get in a good walk before work. And if an Advil or two doesn't cut it I'll take a sick day. I think my last one was when Phil played the Nokia(?).
Get the defenses up to full OOMPH! before our next crowd situation, Joe Jackson @ The Beacon, assuming it doesn't get canceled by the early prom/maskless transit/I am so done with Covid! surge to come.
My first 3 were all Pfizer. Strongly leaning toward Moderna for #4. I read somewhere that mixing it up like this can confer an additional increment of protection against contracting Covid, as compared to sticking (no pun intended) with Pfizer. Anybody else hear about this?
This is interesting. It now appears that booster offers some protection against Covid but the Booster plus having had Covid in the past offers the best protection.
Of course having had Covid also puts one at risk for long Covid.
So,while natural immunity is good, long Covid is bad.
anyway, I suppose I'll have super immunity now..at least for a few month?!
I had Pfizer for #'s 1 & 2 but switched to Moderna for booster #1 (based on the nearly year-old charts above and similar other research results that I have yet to find being refuted) and am not sure if/which booster may happen for my #2. I have also read that having COVID on top of being fully vacc'd is the best protection yet that path is not exactly one that could/should be recommended.
Also, for what it may be worth (everyone is different), I experienced almost no side affects from any of the 3 shots that I have received. I had a mild and relatively short headache after #1.
> yet that path is not exactly one that could/should be recommended.
yeah, but probably inevitable.
I heard a report about the current surge of cases in the Bay Area is due to the fact that we've all been so good about following the protocols (mask wearing, vaccinated etc) that we're all just now getting our first cases of this very contagious variant while others who have had it in past are more protected. well, and with everyone suddenly dropping the masks and going to more mega events...
The way the fuckin Covid virus is evading the vaccines really sucks. of course, if we weren't vaccinated we'd be getting hit harder, and at least the anti viral medications are widely available now. pretty much changes the equation.
we will survive*
*if we're vaccinated, boosted, boosted and boosted - and luckily to rebound from a case of the most recent Covid variant, which is no picnic and packs a stronger punch than Omicron and is hella contagious.
ACK.
PS.. becaue I know that Racket would want to know:;
My neighbors have been great helping me while I'm home sick with Covid. One just dropped off the most delicious cupcake from a place in Los Altos called Sweet Diplomacy. OMG. One neighbor was at Trader Joe's and offered to get me whatever I needed. And another dropped off a couple of rapid covid tests. Today's was very "faint" positive and hoping that tomorrow I will be negative.
I actually did lose my sense of smell at first, but it came back after a few doses of the Paxlovid. Got sick on Tuesday and lost sense of smell. Started Paxlovid Thursday night and sense of smell returned this morning. Getting to taste my food again is glorious.
"Massive outbreaks have recently been recorded after Phish’s four-night concert run, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and the annual Washington Gridiron Club dinner, as well as on cruises and after high school proms."
The Common Places BA.2 And Other Omicron Subvariants Are Spreading
My husband got the Covid 7 days after I was infected. also fully vaxxed with #4.
it really does seems inevitable that everyone is going to get this thing, again hoping that the vaccine and the anti viral aid in recovery for all.
I thought this new strain was just hitting "first timers" like me who have been very Covid cautious, but I'm hearing about more folks getting this current strain who have already had Covid in the past. It's obviously really fuckin contagious and is packing more of a punch than the previously mild Omicron. and still testing positive here after 7 days.
I thought the Paxlovid would send Covid packing sooner. no such luck.It did seem to knock out the worst of the symptoms quickly, but I'm likely still contagious.

I got #4 today.

>>the pandemic is a hoax/scam, perpetuated by the pharmaceutical industry.

> I would take my chances

Problem with that strategy is that the anti virals need to be taken very soon after infection, and my understanding is that they're in short supply and not available at most pharmacies. Apparently hospital pharmacies have them, but mostly for patients already hospitalized.

Covid will be around for a
Covid will be around for a while and unfortunately even people who get asymptotic cases are susceptible to Long Covid syndrome.

I have also read that having COVID on top of being fully vacc'd is the best protection yet that path is not exactly one that could/should be recommended.
Also, for what it may be worth (everyone is different), I experienced almost no side affects from any of the 3 shots that I have received. I had a mild and relatively short headache after #1.

yeah, but probably inevitable.
ACK.
PS.. becaue I know that Racket would want to know:;
My neighbors have been great helping me while I'm home sick with Covid. One just dropped off the most delicious cupcake from a place in Los Altos called Sweet Diplomacy. OMG. My husband got the Covid 7
I thought the Paxlovid would send Covid packing sooner. no such luck.It did seem to knock out the worst of the symptoms quickly, but I'm likely still contagious.
good luck out there as cases rise again.
