Here's a quick one before I retire for the evening and get back at processing tomorrow. I am still in awe over how good she and her band was this evening.
I'm still processing my photos but that shouldn't stop me from talking about the show. Molly Tuttle and her band are simply amazing. There was so much interplay among each musician that it was hard to keep track of. Not only were they locked together as a band, they would interlock with another member within the band being a cohesive unit. There were times that 2 or more band members would have their own little thing going and another grouping would be doing the same while all on that same page as a band. It was a treat for the eyes and ears to witness. Molly Tuttle may be the best overall guitarist I have ever seen and I've seen a few of whom that are acknowledged as the greats. Where as many of them are known for playing one style at a time, Ms. Tuttle would often do a solo that switched from flat picking, to R & B moaning, to Bob Weir rhythm playing to pure rock shredding...all within the same solo. She would switch gears when the moment grabbed her and did it without any sort of demarcation line. They just ebbed and flowed into each other without pause. I can honestly say I have never seen anything quite like it before.
This show is going to live in me for a long, long time.
Another fun fact about Molly is that she's from Palo Alto - I first saw her play in 2009 with the family band. Her father and siblings in the band. She was a young teen and a standout back then. I recall getting to meet the family. It was clear she was going places..can't find anything on the YouTube but just located an old news article. Dad obviously taught them well. Brother Jack also has a musical career
