Fuck Texas

Just like it's everyday news... my heart is heavy

Too much.

If tonight, Americans do turn heavenward in pain and grief for the lost children of Uvalde, Texas, they may hear the answer delivered in the Bible through the words of Isaiah: “And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.”

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/05/uvalde-texas-robb-elem...

This just sucks so bad. I have a child in elementary school and can't even fathom how those parents must be feeling.

I feel sick to my stomach. Be well everyone.

I have 3 kids in elementary school. Awful

Thanks for that well-done story from The Atlantic, kxela, I'm going to share it for sure.

It amazes me how quickly stories like this get produced, but I know (or think I know) how professional journalists are able to put the story together in crisis situations.
Nice touch that they led with the bible verse.

only if those kids had guns...

No words...

And it's pregnant women who the Supreme Court is currently trying to decide need to be more controlled. How sad on many levels.

Uvalde is a part of Texas' 23rd Congressional district

Its congressional representative's name is Hon. Tony Gonzales (R)

Tony Gonzales is endorsed by the NRA Victory fund. Whoever those kooks are. Interestingly, there have been no tweets on the NRA Victory Fund page since BOTH of the "A rated" Senate candidates they endorsed in the 2020 GA election (Loeffler and Perdue) lost their elections.

I decided to scan Rep. Gonzales' twitter page for mentions about mass shootings, guns, and the second amendment. I thought two in particular were interesting:

<<<"I voted NO on two gun control measures in the House today. I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and will do everything I can to oppose gun grabs from the far Left."

1:58 PM · Mar 11, 2021>>>

...a couple more junk tweets attempting to draw straight lines between gun confiscation and the "far left"

and then today of course flow the thoughts and prayers...

<<<<"My heart breaks for the city of Uvalde. Pray for our families."

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”

“Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Matthew 19:1412:44 PM · May 24, 2022>>>>

That's the statement. The tweet. The whole thing. Just like that.

now jesus don't like killin', no matter the reason for...

Also the NRA's annual meeting is this week in Houston, right down the highway

https://www.nraam.org/events/

Gov. Abbott, Ted Cruz, and Donald Trump are among the guest speakers

This ought to go well

alex jones says it never happened

Beyond tragic and horrible.....AGAIN/STILL. I am almost expecting Alex Jones to again deny it ever even happened, claiming it as a false flag operation in attempts to "take away our guns!" Maybe it'll be slightly more difficult for him to ignore/deny it when it's in his back yard? Pay attention to some of the fake white outrage over this, opposed to the relatively slight blip over the Buffalo mass slaughter event last week in a predominantly black area.

Fuck the US Senate would be a more appropriate sentiment.

don't recall posts titled "fuck Connecticutt" 10 years ago.

...and Fuck the NRA which heavily finances said U.S. Senate

republican responce to this tragedy -

We blame the Democrats and their cockamamie mandates that kids attend school !

This never would have happened if these youngsters were out working in the fields like their parents.

Texas has been fucked for the longest time; that's not the story here. This tragedy is the result of the US refusing to have a grown-up conversation about firearms.

I agree, it's not about Texas any more than any other place in the U.S. It happened in Springfield, Oregon in 1998, when 15 year old Kip Kinkel shot his parents and then went to his high school and shot and killed people (only 2 students dead, 25 wounded).
It's about guns, mental health, communication, real life.

It hurts us all every time. The shock continues.

I dunno. Didn't TX just proudly pass some really loose legislation on guns with nearly unfettered access thereof? CT did not take any such measure(s) before or after Sandy Hook. Too many politicians are way too obsessed with their A+ NRA rating.

> Didn't TX just proudly pass some really loose legislation on guns

Perhaps, but that doesn't explain away the recent shooting in Buffalo, or the one in Orange County, CA. Guns are not a regional problem, The problem is systemic.

.....and where were all the pistol-packin' do-gooder crime-fighters today?

moar good guys with guns then

obviously

So, what are some ideas on sensible approaches and legislation that may help attack this admittedly systemic problem, particularly in light of 2nd Amendment?

...and a randomly unhinged society/world at large

Mannfred, those are the 2020 stats?

We need help.

Delaware governor vetoes marijuana legalization

> what are some ideas on sensible approaches and legislation that may help attack this admittedly systemic problem

Given the current political climate in the US, we're a very long way from sensible approaches, but what needs to happen first is there needs to be a consensus that we have a problem.

The NRA convention in Houston will most likely host the officer who shot the gun kid and tout how important good guys with guns are. And maybe a moment of prayer for continued good aim.

mass disenrollment of kids from public schools

you know; while they're working this gun thingy out

not trying to speak for parents here, but it's an idea

Parents and educators should refuse to work and attend an unsafe environment. No school until some effective legislation is passed to deal with the issue of guns and who gets to own them. Hard reset.

I can't imagine the pain.

> mass disenrollment of kids from public schools

A mass, long-term student strike might be even more effective. It carries a lot more symbolic value if the kids stand up and say hell no.

>mass disenrollment of kids from public schools

you know; while they're working this gun thingy<

Republicans aren't fans of public education, it would be a win/win for them.

^Exactly. GOP loves charter/home school options...so they can more openly push religion, racism, sexism, etc

Judit, i think the link shows 2020

i got it to show other years.

not defending Texas, Abbott is a turd on wheels.

If I offended anyone w/ Fuck Texas, well,  it was styled after the Fuck China thread and also represented my personal anger with the news.... but I'm not apologizing.

But a state that elects Abbott is living on the skewed edge of reality.

Mike I like your student strike idea.... maybe that would inspire parents to protest and  vote against NRA-sponsored electeds.... there's ony a few weeks left of school... but it may be even more effective if students wait until late August / September, when parents are itching to get them out of the house again.

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate...Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

from a sermon he gave called "Loving Your Enemies" on Christmas Day, 1957 at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.

I can't give any specifics, but I do agree that the premise of Agape Love is a good starting point.  Practicing kindness towards one another, and cherishing our divine inner spirit.  As Joni Michell put it:

We are stardust

We are golden

And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

One of my very favorite MLK Jr. quotes, thanks Herbal.

Can an increase of Agape Love cause people to vote for candidates who aren't owned by the NRA?

> Can an increase of Agape Love cause people to vote for candidates who aren't owned by the NRA?

Not without ramping up the production and distribution of LSD to levels that have never been seen before.

Isn't that a sad state to be in?  People should be able to love without doses.

Fuck you Texas. And fuck your Lone Star Beer.

Fuck that fucking Alamo.  And fuck your Long Horn Steer.

It seems that now shootings, random and well planned, can and are happening all over our land.

I don't know Texas, but it can't be as wacked as it's politicians make it seem. I understand Houston is one of the world's most diverse cities. Hedspace lives in Texas and so does Willie Nelson. Surely there must be a majority of regular sensible people there. Vote the crazy fuckwits out of office.

There's a big problem with too many young men feeling angry, lost and worthless. Shooting people up here. In other cultures attaching bombs to themselves and blowing them up in crowded mosques and markets. Rampaging, raping and killing, through villages in Africa, Ukraine, etc. It happens every day. The hopelessness and pain so many young men must be in to participate in such crimes, or commit them in acts of solo cunning.

And the mature "educated" men who encourage and manipulate them, there be truly deep evil. They can go to hell.

Ozzy had it right when he pissed on the Alamo

Well, the Alamo is just a building - it didn't hurt anyone.

But pissing on it probably didn't hurt it either.

No harm, no foul.

Better to piss on Abbott.

>There’s 50 senators…who refuse to vote on HR 8, which is a background check rule that the House passed a couple years ago<

Both sides are the same... ain't that right, Slack?

Don't worry Ted Cruz will fix it

Right to life really needs to apply to actual children

or maybe if we can figure out to perform abortions using guns so the GOP pass  gun control measures?

assault weapons ban NOW

And right on cue, the GOP want to arm teachers, while banning  books, and criminalizing women's  reproductive care.

why are so many young people so very sick in our society?

late stage capitalism in decline. people can't make it here anymore. can't imagine why there are armies of homeless. right wing media spewing non-stop hate for more than the last 20 years...

we have a mental health crisis, more than a gun crisis....

There was an armed guard (ex-cop) in Buffalo, he was shot to death after exchanging gunfire with the 18-year old armored suspect.

Apparently there were TWO armed cops and ONE armed security guard at the Uvalde school.

The THREE armed guards apparently exchanged gunfire with the suspect prior to him spending the next 30 minutes killing little kids.

They apparently had "minor injuries".

(I say apparently as early stories are often incorrect.)

Gonna need a LOT more armed guards, apparently.

Arm the Teachers!!! Arm the Children!!!

>we have a mental health crisis, more than a gun crisis....

mentally ill people without assault weapons aren't a threat

step  one is to eliminate the weapons.. and close the loophole for gun purchases.

Unless you want to describe far right extremists, toxic masculinity, and white supremacists as mental diseases, then let's address the crux here and leave the GOP/NRA talking points in the trash bin.

GUN VIOLENCE IS A GUN ISSUE

(mental health issues are a  separate issue which do need to be addressed, but NOT in this context)

> mentally ill people without assault weapons aren't a threat

Not entirely true. Let's remember, for just a moment, the 45th President of the United States.

45 is just a narcissist and a con artist

But yeah, with his finger on the nuclear button was an enormous threat

People diagnosed with serious mental illness in the U.S. are actually somewhere between three and seven times (depending on which peer reviewed study you adhere) more likely to be the victim of a violent attack than the perpetrator of one.

This does not mean people with mental illness don't commit violence, it means people free of mental illness diagnoses are (in fact) more violent.

is this obstinate, "constitutional", tunnel-vision, death-grip on gun ownership not somehow a mental illness in itself?

The logic behind the 2nd Amendment is that the people might need weapons to wrest control away from a tyrant. That kind of reasoning became outdated when the tyrants gained control of weapons of mass destruction.

nancy, i am not hashing gop talking points. i am speaking as myself.

leave your high horse in the stable.

we are all upset.

my thought process is WHY are so many people now doing this?

background checks, assault bans, i am all for it...

like it or not, guns are going nowhere in our country.  ever venture outside of your neighborhood or state?

i think these people are ill, diagnosis or not. healthy people do not do this.

Fuck Tucker Carlson !!

>nancy, i am not hashing gop talking points.

that's exactly what you're doing.

but yeah it's a bit of a chicken and egg debate here, except a  chicken with an assault weapon wouldn't do the damage if they didn't have easy access to assault weapons.

We can do without the gaslighting and mental illness excuses, and GOP talking points.

The high horse remark just makes you sound like a Jackass. Maybe stick to the topic instead

>>>Fuck Tucker Carlson !!

Took a quick glance at the Fox News comment section today and the following have been identified as the cause of this tragedy:

Hollywood, video games, smart phones, Facebook, "Brandon," the ACLU, and CRT

The solutions:   Arming teachers and "return to God."

It's not complicated. If you are voting for Republicans you don't need to ask why when these shootings happen. You just have to look in the mirror.

If right wingers want to return to god, they can check out anytime they please.

My apologies, Turtle. The GOP/NRA  talking points for this mass shooting seem to exclude  mental health, they tend to roll that one out when the murderer is White

Making Gun Violence a political issue has not resulted in any meaningful solutions.

Anytime a Republican mentions mental health, or video games, or Mercury being in retrograde as the reason the very next question should be what legislation have you tried to pass to address those issues, and you will hear crickets.

They don't care about any of that. They know the real reason and they just want to gaslight.

>>>Making Gun Violence a political issue has not resulted in any meaningful solutions.

Because Republicans have blocked all meaningful solutions and then sell the idea that nothing can be done. As long as Republicans are allowed input on the laws of this country these shootings will continue.

>>>Making Gun Violence a political issue has not resulted in any meaningful solutions.

There are a lot of people in the USA who believe that mass shootings, schoolchildren being gunned down, etc., are just the unfortunate but necessary costs of the right to bear arms.

tragically acceptable collateral damage

funny you will probably never hear a single one of them say this part out loud.

On the flipside, if I was a grieving parent with nothing else to lose  I would be very tempted to get an AK-47 and show up at the NRA convention up seeking vengeance. Good thing it's so easy in Texas to buy these AK-47's so easily, right?!

Because you know, all it would take to get them to change their minds might be if they have a personal experience with gun violence.

'Remember the Robb Elementary School'

>>>I would be very tempted to get an AK-47 and show up at the NRA convention

Guns are banned at the NRA convention.

our nation is held hostage by 50 senators

Beto just got thrown out of an Abbott press conference.

sorry for trying to delve deeper...

feel free to keep circle jerking and name calling.

gun sales are at an all time high.

not sure how we can make any progress nationally. the courts are packed with gun-wingers. you know, because $$, campaign finance....gerrymandering...

guns, god, country.

not sure how we can get inroads here when $ is free speech...according to the courts before all the other nutjobs were appointed.

Texas bleeds red as it turns blue...

alternate video of Beto v Abbott, Cruz, and the screaming fat people with moustaches:

Quick Survey:  Anyone here ever vote for a candidate who shot something in his or her campaign ad?

No.  [X]

Apparently the Mayor  in the town where the shooting occurred also shouted down Beto.

Most disturbing was hearing the local evangelical Pastor whose 2nd cousin was shot and killed, she was a teacher at the school. I have to go back and  Relisten to the interview on NPR's Here and Now, but I believe his interpretation of Gods will was that now the survivors can be more empathetic and be able to counsel future gun violence victims since they've had the good fortune of experiencing the mass shooting.. He added that God is merciful and God is forgiving and so must we. I have a feeling that his image of God is depicts him holding an AK-47. Guns for Jesus..

>Guns are banned at the NRA convention.

I'm guessing they were banned at the school too, but we're talking Texas..

'We live in a sinful world'

Texans love their guns more than their children. Texans love embryos  more than they love children.

Texas loves pandering to the GOP co-dependent  "religious-right conservatives" for funding and votes...you know, similar to the Dem party's relationship with labor unions.

>Texas loves pandering to the GOP co-dependent "religious-right conservatives" <

The religious right is trying to install a Christofascist government

>Dem party's relationship with labor unions.<

Labor unions try to improve pay, benefits and working conditions for employees

Another example of both parties are the same... amirite..

>>>Texas loves pandering to the GOP co-dependent  "religious-right conservatives" for funding and votes...you know, similar to the Dem party's relationship with labor unions.

Labor unions in the United States gave us the 40 hour work week and an end to child labor.  What have the "religious-right conservatives" given us?  Enough with "GOP = DEMs".

EDIT:  looks like OCLT beat me to it.

I'm afraid we would still have Jesus and guns without republicans

but the only labor union that would exist without democrats is the police union

you can take that to the bank

I am not anti-union and actually think we need better representation (and less corruption) thereof. Nor am I saying the parties are the same. Congress is and has been consistently log-jammed in passing any real meaningful legislation on guns and lots of other things, regardless which side has had the power to do so. I am saying that I think we have largely been sold out by our govt and the incessant greed of many politicians from both parties that are ingrained in the shitty system that we tolerate.

Lumber, you're not a member of both parties. What do you want your party's elected officials to do after you voted for them?

Get over it and see some reality, you Bernie lovers out there. Even he does not love or show loyalty to the Dems and vice versa. Hence, the lock-step shitty money party system stumbles on.

^^a lot of what they have been trying to do, but have been blocked by Republicans and two Democratic Senators. Like the universal background check bill and the voting right bill

*******Appoint and confirm left leaning and progressive judges and Supreme Court justices******

Are you really this clueless?

If you genuinely don't see the difference between the two parties, and why the Democrats are preferable,  then you're fucking idiot.

Sorry,  I forgot....

With all due respect...

>>>Congress is and has been consistently log-jammed in passing any real meaningful legislation on guns and lots of other things, regardless which side has had the power to do so.

Please name the time when the Dems had 60 Senators, The House, and the Presidency and failed to pass gun legislation.

Then work harder to get more progressives elected - which will probably happen in the coming years but time ticks. I never said or implied that I  think Dems are not preferrable. As I have previously stated in this forum, "I detest the modern-day GOP" and could not imagine voting for any candidate thereof any time soon. Trying to rely on wet noodles like Manchin/Sinema (sp) is a waste of time but that is where things sit unless/until a better, more solid majority gets elected. Dems are on really thin ice if you haven't noticed.

maybe dems should stop acting like republicans if they want people to come out and vote for them.

^That's funny (and I don't necessarily disagree) but plenty of political analysts are saying that Dems need to start acting like Republicans for the same end result. Dems have more or less let GOP control the messaging and stupid people eat it up.

This is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable all the while.

Not acting like a Republican and running for Governor, and losing in the polls.

Screen Shot 2022-05-25 at 4.20.06 PM.png

Like it or not elections in this country are decided by people who don't pay any attention. Many of the people who will decide things for us probably don't know there was another school shooting yesterday. If one sides supporters say nothing but great things about their side, and the other sides supporters talk mostly about how their side sucks it has an impact.

Trust me I do not think the Democrats are the answer. I've actually spent years of my life out on the streets trying to change things, but this isn't Reagan's party any more. The Republicans have been radicalized, but I see again and again whenever any problem is brought up where 99% of Republicans are one way and 99% of Dems are another people focus on the 2 Dems that are the problem. (BTW both Sinema and Manchin voted for all of Bidens record breaking appointments to the federal bench that will have impacts for years to come. Something no Republicans would have done so they are still better than Republicans.)

The Nazis were elected into power, because the Communists and the Socialists split the ticket with Communists calling the Socialist not "real" socialists and the Socialists calling the Communists too radical. They both celebrated when the Nazis won because they thought now the people will see how bad they really are, and they were right but not the way they thought they were.

>maybe dems should stop acting like republicans if they want people to come out and vote for them<

If that was directed to me and my tone, i am so very sorry i hurt your feelings. Won't you pretty please vote for democrats, if only to ensure that Christofascist Republicans don't take over? Please?

If that wasn't directed at me and you still believe that Republicans and Democrats are too similar, I'll refer you back to my previous post regarding people who believe this... with all due respect.

>That's funny (and I don't necessarily disagree) but plenty of political analysts are saying that Dems need to start acting like Republicans for the same end result.<

yeah i know...

maybe we need some white raphael warnocks (sp?) that can both be christians and for the working people?

sad to see the working class co-opted by the people that flat out fuck them.

the right are masterful at manipulating fear.

the "center" of the country has been shifted so far to the right, its almost hanging off of the flat earth...shifted in large part in that the psuedo-nazis own an entire media outlet in fox, not to mention the blowhards rush and all the pod caster people. meanwhile the old establishment "mainstream media", read, corporate, (neo-liberal), have enabled this.

i don't have any answers other than it all boils down to $ in politics. until that changes, we get scumbags and their ilk. the swamp will never be drained when its continually being flooded.

and that was a generalization, not direct and you per se lumber. also somewhat sarcastic. my feelings are fine, thnx.

ps. 99.98% of my voting record is for the lesser evil...voted dem and have helped locally start to change the traditional republican strangehold of the county...you kow, replacement theory and all....

Got on the NRA website last nite to send them a message and I was shocked to learn they're enrollment is just over 5 million people.

5 million !!!!! I thought it would be between 75-80 million. It seems every other fucking car in Ct sports an NRA + CCDL bumper sticker. I can't believe this country allows a group with that small amount of members dictate our gun laws.

It's ludicrous, We SUCK.

My email to em -

"How does it feel manipulating the 2nd ammendment to weak minded Americans just to feed your greed ? How do you sleep at night knowing you are the country's death brokers responsible for the murder of children ? Something tells me pretty well"

I doubt they'll be gettin back to me

cops did nothing for 40 minutes while 18 year old with brand new guns slaughtered 19 little kids.

40 minutes.

So can we just shut the fuck up about putting cops at schools?

That's inane. What's the cops excuse for standing down and allowing the slaughter?!

No wonder they couldn't identify  the dead kids and needed to collect parents' DNA. It was a literal blood bath.

Yep the good guys with guns waited 40 minutes outside a locked door until a school administrator came with a key.

The refrain from the gun lobby and the GOP, "gun control laws don't work," is actually code.  What they really mean is "We've won, why don't you give up."  And it's easy to buy in to their premise "We've won," given that gun manufacturer greed and the resulting loose gun policies have resulted in a flood of guns, up to almost 400 million(!), inundating the USA.  It's easy to be discouraged.

But consider, in the days when Bogart or Bacall with a cigarette was the height of glamor and sophistication, it would have been hard to imagine that cigarette advertising, vending machines, and smoking in bars, restaurants, and on planes, would over time be banned.  It's taken decades, generations, to make the progress we've made against Big Tobacco.  It will take this long or longer to roll back guns and gun culture in this country.

The Dems need to stop pussyfooting around and take over the narrative, honestly.  "Yes, we want to reduce the number of guns in America."  After a rare mass shooting in New Zealand, their parliament outlawed assault rifles and did a buyback.  We could do that here, without violating the 2nd amendment.  Heck, while we're at it, citizens in good standing can be issued a muzzle-loading musket to keep at home, as long as they register for our "well-regulated militia."

My favorite one for the gun laws don't work crowd:

"why didn't the gunman use an automatic weapon?"

they weren't available... why not? Because they are illegal

Paging Ted Nugent!

"Don McLean cancels NRA gig after school shooting: 'It would be disrespectful and hurtful for me to perform'"

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/don-mc-lean-cancels-nra-gig-after-sc...

If those children had had life insurance back when Sandy Hook happened, The NRA and Colt Manufacturing Co would not exist today.

Screw anyone who was scheduled to perform at the NRA convention- it's not like there haven't been other school shootings recently and regularly

fuck the NRA

fuck the GOP

fuck the jackasses claiming 'both parties are the same'

At this point I have little love for anything even vaguely resembling a republican or nra member. Dare I say, I hate the mutherfuckers with every cell in my body !

And yeah fuck anyone who can't notice the difference between the partys, thats just quantum ignorance.

We live in 2 separate countries, have for quite some time but it's never been so clearly defined as todays amerika.
So sad.
If the shit ever does hit the fan we're mincemeat, we own no guns at all. Never liked the idea of having one in the home.
I wanted an 88mm Howitzer, you know, for friends n relatives.

These fucking incompetent Texas cops.

At least one additional kid died directly because the cops were incompetent. “When the cops came, the cop said: 'Yell if you need help!' And one of the persons in my class said 'help.' The [shooter] overheard and he came in and shot her," the boy said. https://kens5.com/article/news/special-reports/uvalde-school-shooting/it...

CBS news stated that parents begged the police at the scene to go in and do something for about 1 hour.  A police captain said that when police arrived they were shot at by the murderer, so they stayed outside until a specialty Border unit arrived. This was the unit of men who went in and killed the killer.

So good guys in Texas with badges and with guns don't like being shot at and will back down from gunmen in order to stay safe.

"We die last."

I was just thinking, "when it happens to those assholes in Congress, they'll finally do something about it."

I then struck me that it did happen to them. On 1/6/21 armed insurgents stormed the Capitol, ready to kill Democrats and Republicans alike. The overall Republican response: it was nothing.

It's never enough for those inhumane pieces of shit to act.

Fuck the NRA. The courage of second responders is more like it.

>>>we salute the courage of school officials.........yes, 100%

>>>first responders.........ummm

>>>and others who offered their support and services.........the hysterical parents who couldn't believe how little was being done by heavily armed, legally and professionally trained marksmen with bulletproof vests

The deeply stupid is a growing cancer everywhere.

Cop is ready to tase parents.

That's the face of courage there.

was just thinking, "when it happens to those assholes in Congress, they'll finally do something about it."

I then struck me that it did happen to them. On 1/6/21 armed insurgents stormed the Capitol, ready to kill Democrats and Republicans alike. The overall Republican response: it was nothing.

It's never enough for those inhumane pieces of shit to act.

How about the congressional softball game practice where Steve Scalise got shot?

Husband of one of the slain teachers just died from what his family said was a broken heart:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/may/26/texas-school-shooting-te...

The bad ass punk cop itching to taze a nervous Mom in the photo above must be related to that little baby Kyle.

Gonna be a hell of a tv viewing nite tonight.

We got the Celtics ready to clinch at home, the Yankees continuing their dominance over the baseball world, and some shit getting ready to hit the fan in Houston at the Nazi Rule Agenda rally. I hear they're bussing protesters in from out of state. Looks like it could get prickly. Remote's gettin a workout tonight.

CBS news is reporting that guns will be allowed inside the NRA convention, just not for Trump's speech because of secret service.

so the cops were afraid of getting shot

Protect and Serve.. themselves

Hey, the 18 year old was armed, you can't expect a group of racist officers  to risk their lives to save the brown children, even if they outnumbered the shooter 50 to 1.

I thought more guns in the hands of good guys was supposed to be the solution to the problem of mass shootings. Maybe cops aren't good guys?

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/05/27/us/timeline-texas-shootin...

In the updated sequence of events, the police sought to explain an hour-long gap during which law enforcement officials entered the school, but did not engage the shooter. Mr. McCraw also revised facts about the shooting previously stated by other officials. What follows is the timeline he laid out, including his account of several 911 calls that were made.

11:27 a.m.According to video evidence, Mr. McCraw said, the door where the shooter entered the school had been propped open by a teacher.

11:28 The gunman’s truck crashes nearby. The teacher at the door enters the school, apparently to retrieve a phone.

At the same time, two men at the funeral home across the street hear the truck crash. They run toward the truck and see the suspect, Salvador Ramos, exit with a gun and a backpack. The men flee, and the gunman fires at them but misses. One of them falls while running, but both make it back to the funeral home. The gunman travels on foot toward the school.

The teacher appears on video inside the school, now talking on a phone, apparently to 911.

11:30 A witness who called 911, possibly the teacher, says a vehicle has crashed and there’s a man with a gun there.

11:31 Now in the school parking lot, the gunman begins shooting at the school. Meanwhile, a patrol vehicle arrives at the funeral home. An officer drives into the school parking lot, passing by the gunman, and eventually confronts someone in the parking lot who turns out to be a teacher.

11:32 More shots are fired at the school.

11:33 The suspect enters the school and walks down a hallway toward two classrooms, 111 and 112, which are connected by a bathroom. He fires more than 100 rounds.

11:35 Three Uvalde Police Department officers enter the school through the same door used by the gunman and two are grazed by gunfire. Four more officers later enter the building, including the deputy county sheriff. Both doors into the adjoining classrooms where the gunman is located are locked at this time.

11:37 Another 16 rounds are fired.

11:51 The police sergeant and other law enforcement agents start to arrive.

12:03 p.m.By this time, as many as 19 officers have gathered in the school hallway. A student calls 911 and whispers that she is in Room 112. The call lasts 1 minute 23 seconds.

12:10 The same student calls 911 again and says that multiple people are dead.

12:13The same student again calls 911.

12:15 Members of the Border Patrol Tactical Unit arrive with shields.

12:16The same student calls 911 again and says eight to nine students are still alive.

12:19A different student, this one in Room 111, calls, but hangs up when another student tells her to.

12:21 The gunman, believed to be at the classroom door, fires again. Officers move down the hallway. Shots are heard over a 911 call from inside.

12:36The first student calls 911 again. She is told to stay on the line and stay quiet. The student tells 911 that the gunman shot the door.

12:43 and 12:47The student on the line asks 911 to please send the police now.

12:46The student says that she can hear the police next door.

12:50 Law enforcement officers breach a classroom door using keys they’ve obtained from a janitor and kill the suspect. Shots are heard over the 911 call.

12:51 On the 911 call, officers could be heard moving children out of the classroom. When the call ends, the same child who had called is outside.

...all merely an expensive "show" of force

Breached the door by using the key

It's like warming up the police station by lighting it on fire.

If those cops have any courage at all, they'll get a taste of gun oil in the days to come.

IMG_20220527_124513_01.jpg

So strange considering the police often have no problem barging into locked homes with no knock warrants. And here they could have saved children's lives but chose not to. But the gunman had a gun is their excuse?!

IMG_20220527_124821_01__01.jpg

....much easier to sit on the interstate looking for those evil roaches and pot seeds that fund more such nonsense via "Civil Forfeiture"

> so the cops were afraid of getting shot

I'm a teacher and never let the fear of getting shot keep me from going into a classroom.

You'd think if Cops were so afraid of confronting active shooters that they might want to see a ban on civilian ownership of assault weapons.

This all sounds like a horrible episode of Reno 911

NY Times:

The maker of the gun used in the school massacre got $3.1 million in pandemic aid.
Daniel Defense was one of nearly 500 gun and ammunition makers and retailers that collected a total of $125 million from the Paycheck Protection Program.

-----------

Politicians and law enforcement leaders talk about the shooter being evil.  I say the gun manufacturers are multiple levels of evil beyond any shooter.  Their profits are blood money, and our govt should be taxing them to cover the social costs of their products, not subsidizing them.  Tax the hell out of them (2nd amendment says nothing about this) and reduce their blood money in our political system.

so fucking sick of these bastardized dork flags everywhere!

Fuck the Pigs.

I like the taxing idea^^^^ tax gun makers and churches with huge parking lots that sit empty all week -- could be used for affordable housing!

why can't the gun manufacturers be sued?

public health issue. just like perdue pharma...

I believe that path has been tried before with the usual obfuscations getting in the way. You know, the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" crowd.....

sandy hook folks got $71 million from remington

Nope because our country is sick in the head they are just about the only industry immune from liability.

https://giffords.org/lawcenter/gun-laws/policy-areas/other-laws-policies...

Thanks for the link to the Giffords Law Center, which explains the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (2005) and the exception in the case of Sandy Hook, plus many other examples.

>>>>>I like the taxing idea

Like the marijuana tax act of the 1930s. Since it is a tax issue I believe it could be done in the Senate with only 51 votes through the reconciliation process.

^Good points that should be attempted!^

Ice Storms

Power Grid Failures

Mass Shooting

Greg Abbot and his rag tag bunch of incompetence trash have been in power the entire time. But the people keep electing them?

People get the govt they deserve.

Decades of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and NRA propaganda are having the desired effect.  People have absorbed the simple gun lobby talking points.  I saw this exchange regarding Uvalde:

Post:  It's almost always a young male. I blame shitty parents, violent video games and movies.
Reply:  America is a psych ward where any lunatic can get a conceal carry permit and an assault rifle
OP response:  Agreed but they can use a chain saw as well. It's a people problem, not a gun problem.

A chain saw?!  I guess we are talking about Texas after all...

So tell me again why over a dozen officers waited outside the classroom where the slaughter continued..#CHILDRENSLIVESMATTER

>Uvalde Police Department

August 1, 2018  ·

The Uvalde Police Department is pleased to announce that we have completed the process, and been awarded grant funds through the Office of the Governor to outfit EVERY Uvalde Police Officer with Level 4 body armor. This important piece of legislation provided funding to equip police officers with body armor rated to stop rifle rounds. In 2017, Senate Bill 12 was passed into law. The $23 million Rifle-Resistant Body Armor Grants were awarded to 453 jurisdictions around the state. Thanks goes out to those who supported Senate Bill 12 and everyone who supports those who work to keep us safe. #BlueLivesMatter

Photo: Uvalde Police Officers proudly wear their newly issued Level 4 body armor.

As has been said, it's all just a "show" of force and a bunch of cops whom never should have been cops.

surfdead is better than chuck schumer

Anyone see story on  the artist who created custom caskets for the murdered children? a sweet gesture, but I would like to see the caskets out in front of the school as a reminder instead of going  6' under. Maybe he will get around to paining a mural..

>>>but I would like to see the caskets out in front of the school Uvalde Popo Dept. all summer as a reminder instead of going  6' under.

the abortion nuts tour colleges and such across the country and have huge graphic pictures and displays of said "attrocities"...

i dunno, just a suggestion.

This hits way too close for us.  My youngest will be attending Berkeley High School this fall.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Berkeley-teen-tried-to-recru...

The Chronicle has a pay wall so I can't read the article. The headline was awful enough and way too close for you, John. And by extrapolation, for all of us.

My son recently began to feel fear and uncertainty dropping his kids off at school.

There's less and less feeling of security in so many areas of life and it sucks.

I saw the story about the casket maker, he did a beautiful thing.

I'd prefer them in front of the Police station, partly for the powerful message, but also because I don't think the parents need to see them over and over at the school. I don't know if it really makes a difference. Is he making extra ones for display purposes?

So shitty for everyone.

So at this point in the police cover up the only question left is just how many teachers and children did the police kill before they decided to stand down and stand by for an hour.
