As is so often the case with me when these "favorite version" threads come up, my favorite El Paso comes from the '81 Greek run...

Isn't there an early El Paso where Garcia says something like "This is where Weir makes us all suffer."

^ pretty hilarious, Jerry was one funny fella

How about the time an interviewer tells Jerry about what Hunter said was the meaning behind one of songs he wrote, I forget which one. And Jerry replies something to the effect of " no it isn't, its about yada yada yada, I forget his exact interpretation but it was pretty funny nonetheless.

By my count, they played El Paso a dozen times on the Europe 72 tour, and those always sound good to me.

Marty Robbins performing "El Paso" live on The Drifter in 1965.

I seem to recall an interview somewhere where Jerry said he thought El Paso was a god-awful song.

How did a nice Jewish boy like Marty Robbins end up writing so many amazing cowboy and country western songs? El Paso is great but my favorite is Big Iron. Always wished the Grateful Dead did it. Would have loved to have heard Jerry's take.
