Congressional Hearings Round Two

Forums:

I was surprised to read they're broadcasting this one during the day. On tap today, Trump's Big Lie.

Liz Cheney out of the gate saying the "apparently inebriated Rudy Giuliani"

It's great to think of Dump sitting on his gold plated toilet, watching this on a 120" led, listening to people speak the truth about him for the first time, shitting and tweeting furiously.

Let's all just take a second, smoke some weed, and let the image of a shit-talking, besotted Rudy Giuliani sowing seeds of rebellion soak in.

Trump would have listened to a barking dog if he believed it was saying the election was stolen...

sounds like they're  building a case against the RNC for election campaign fraud

Trump would have listened to a barking dog if he believed it was saying the election was stolen...

Or if it could pronounce "Trump".

I have a small sense of appreciation that some Trumpers are possibly finally realizing they have been conned.

Barr's testimonial is powerful.

>  Trumpers are possibly finally realizing they have been conned.

They showed them the money. $250 million to a bogus legal defense fund.

My hope is as of the hearing procedures SOME are realizing the con job ,Mike. Please use my full quote.

Ha.  I heard Cher chimed in about Ivanka's appearance and something about a chandelier, but that's the first time I've seen that.

Awesome.  Some R-wing dipshit claiming this, specifically, is a PR hit job on Ivanka in 3...2...1...

Bob Mackey was more subtle.

> Please use my full quote.

Whoops. Sorry about that, Jaz. And I share your hope.

Thanks,  man.

I'm not sure if his supporters followed up on this.

Chrump could be indicted for wire fraud.

https://statuskuo.substack.com/

I'm sure he "could be" indicted for literally hundreds  and hundreds of offenses. But won't of course. He's too rich and has too many idiots still supporting him.

Hang Mike Pence Reprise...

takeaway so far..

John Eastman is scum and needs to be tried for sedition

Where have you gone, Merrick Garland,

Our nation turns it's collective eyes to you..

Does anyone else find it disturbing how many references to prayer, god and the bible are bandied by these leaders?

I dont want govt or any  leadership to continually invoke the supernatural in order to carry out their decisions and paths forward!!!

Fucking medieval bullshit

The more I hear, the more I'm sayin

Jesus Christ

absolutely, the religious stuff  has no place in government, keep that shit separate from our democracy

and fuck Ginni Thomas and her lies and her POS husband who should resign

The bit about Daniel # 6 (i think it was) reference in the Bible seemed most appropriate and relevant to the situation on hand at that time.

I don't know the Bible references but that reference was compelling and powerful.

Those cats have real faith in their book.

Was Eric Hershman's deposition conducted from his bathroom?

Hang Mike Pence>Praying in the Klan>Hang Mike Pence Reprise

Someone on another website commented on Judge Luttig's delivery.

Does this guy play with DeadCo?

Apparently the DOJ wants to see everything the Jan 6th committee has.. but the Jan 6th committee is holding onto everything until they're done with the hearings. So, sounds like the DOJ does want the evidence to start prosecuting and has already initiated legal proceedings to get their hands on the evidence NOW. Can anyone explain why the Jan 6th committee wouldn't want to share what they have with the DOJ at this stage? How could it compromise their mission?

>>> that reference was compelling and powerful.

A ref from DieHard or King Aurthur would have been just as compelling...

The Faith in that book is one of the things I have real problems with!

Deadco new lead vocalist?  Funny as hell Jaz!!!

Fairy tales have no place in government.  Period.

> why the Jan 6th committee wouldn't want to share what they have with the DOJ at this stage

Could be that what we've been shown has been cherry-picked for a prosecution in the court of public opinion. There could be stuff in the depositions we haven't heard that's exculpatory.

Let's hope that's not the reason ^

The Trumps aren't getting indicted.

Fairy tales have no place in government.  Period.<<<

I agree ,Mark. It is what it is though. This period in our Democracy 's history IS a Fairy Tale.

Brothers' Grimm couldn't imagine this shit.

Lololol

Hahaahahaha

Absolutely Disgusting! This makes Mike Lee, Sean Reyes, and other UT Mormons beyond guilty for actually trying to find a way to subvert election results in other states. This AZ guy did not buckle! FUCK TRUMP FOREVER AND ALWAYS.

Don't forget Ron Johnson...

Ron Johnson tried to hand fake elector info to Mike Pence on Jan. 6, panel reveals

A top aide to Sen. Ron Johnson attempted to arrange a handoff of false, pro-Trump electors from the senator to Mike Pence just minutes before the then-vice president began to count electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2021.The aide, Sean Riley, told Pence’s legislative director Chris Hodgson that Johnson wanted to hand Pence lists of the fake electors from Michigan and Wisconsin for Pence to introduce during the counting of electoral votes that certified Joe Biden’s win

They weren't supposed to have a session tomorrow, but apparently they have some new evidence they want to share. Maybe some of that new documentary footage?

Slacker doesn't understand why POTUS should not be pressuring the DOJ to prosecute anyone and why Trump is in hot water for doing just that.

They scalded him so bigly.

Big Friday surprise Pat Cippolloni coming at you

was he in Quicksilver Messenger Service?

^

Hoping for some Thunder & Lightning Friday...

Closed Caption Fun Fact:

Pat Cippolloni was typed out as "Patsy Baloney".

The whole thing really is kinda mob-y.

Who's Sammy Salami?

ha ha

“If you reach an agreement on a time and place for your testimony, I will waive executive privilege for you, which allows for you to go in and testify truthfully and fairly, as per the request of the unselect committee of political thugs and hacks,” Trump wrote.

not

gonna

happen

at least not prime time public testimony

ditto for Stewart Rhodes' testimony

Rhodes is already facing multiple charges (seditious conspiracy; conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding; obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting; conspiracy to prevent an officer from discharging any duties; and tampering with documents or proceedings and aiding and abetting), so it's unlikely he'd talk to the Committee in public or privately.

Well, DOJ told Bannon to FOAD.

Not surprised, but yes, surprised, the arrogance of these people who think they are above the law, as to when and how and who they will choose to testify to in a legal proceeding.

Go ahead, keep pissing off the authorities.

Thank goodness for the judge that saw through his rouse intended to stall his trial.

and

The Thursday Jan 6 th hearing where Bannon was supposed to testify ( aka take the 5th) has been cancelled

How much of this goes away if the pubs take the house in nov ?

Hey 6th Committee -- Hurry The Fuck Up Please !!!

I pre-ordered this book from my local library:

Says is due 9/13/22

Book Details

Celadon Books and The New Yorker present the report by the Select Committee to Investigate the Jan 6 Attack on the United States Capitol.

On January 6, 2021, insurgents stormed the U.S. Capitol, an act of domestic terror without parallel in American history, designed to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. In a resolution six months later, the House of Representatives called it "one of the darkest days of our democracy," and established a special committee to investigate how and why the attack happened.

Celadon Books, in collaboration with The New Yorker, presents the committee's final report, the definitive account of January 6th and what led up to it, based on more than a year of investigation by nine members of Congress and committee staff with a preface by David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker and a winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

In theory, none of it because the Department of Justice has already opened its own investigation(s). Congress can't bring charges; all they can do is make referrals to the DOJ.

Haha this guy van something the oath keeper spokesperson is actually testifying to congress wearing a descendents t shirt

that's punk as fuck

Wow

Cheney just said Trump himself tried to tamper with a Jan 6 witness...

>>>Haha this guy van something the oath keeper spokesperson is actually testifying to congress wearing a descendents t shirt

He has a law degree from Yale. Don't be fooled by the costume.

yeah still not getting over here

guy strikes me as some kind of self styled hunter thompson type

i wonder what milo thinks of all this?

dude is a hell of a thinker

This shit today is flipping crazy. For rudy, the kraken, Flynn and the overstock guy to be in the oval office screaming at the WH lawyers is just nutz.

For any of these outsiders to think that they could pull this off is scary. They came pretty dam close. I truly believe that if the miltia had started shooting in the capital building, Americans would be taking this a ton more seriously.

Every time I bring this up to a trumper they say what about the George Floyd protests. Apples and oranges mofos. No comparison.

This man is seriously dangerous to our nation. Mitch should be making some statements about the security of our elections

so when does anybody get locked up?

It's up to the DOJ to prosecute, not this committee. The final hearing is on Thursday, and Im hoping that some indictments come shortly thereafter.

>The final hearing is on Thursday,

Last I heard the Thursday hearing was postponed and I don't think it was decided that it would be the final one. I missed the tail end of today's hearing so fill me in if that was covered

What we have learned is that the Republican Party is doing as much to save democracy as Uvalde police did to save children.

It's not illegal when a president does it. If they can kill people with immunity they can do anything.

Might as well call them cops. Above the law.

I only heard the last few minutes of it. The big revelation is that Trump recently called an unnamed witness. That person didn't respond, and instead told their lawyer. The lawyer contacted the committee. The committee is drawing the line at witness tampering, dammit! Now they're pissed.

Chastisocrats

There were hints of witness tampering and intimidation at the previous one

> Last I heard the Thursday hearing was postponed and I don't think it was decided that it would be the final one.

It sounds like the eighth hearing will be next Thursday, July 21st during primetime, and Chairman Bennie Thompson says it will be "the last one — at this point.”

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/jan-6-committee-expected-hold-...

Thanks.

From the headline:

>The committee's chairman, Bennie Thompson, said next week's hearing would be “the last one — at this point” — declining to say whether there would be more down the line.

they clearly need to keep the door open for more surprise witnesses that might step forward

What do you think the ratio is of money spent on this production to money raised at https://democrats.org/

We have never prosecuted a former president. If this case that is being laid out by the special committee doesn't meet the standards for attempting to overthrow our gov't, then what does?

Chances are that the outcome will be the same as the two impeachments. Someone on the jury will be a closet trumper or conservative or religious nutjob.

Another outcome more favorable outcome could be rapid onset dementia that sets in during the course of the trial leading to him never having to pay for his crime.

We had an elderly man murder his niece and her husband in these parts over a land dispute. They were both lawyers. By the time they caught up with him and locked him up he was full blown brain dead. Died in jail

It's worth every cent.

And probably less than the Benghazi hearings, Slack. Figure it out and don't expect us to do your homework.

^ don't expect a swine to recognize a pearl

Yesterday was the coup a da gras

So much revealed. A million times worse than Watergate

DOJ's gonna have a field day, and well before November

Sadly, even if they do prosecute that orange shitgibbon, it'll end up in the supreme court, and we all know how that will end......

Hope is a good thing, faith too

So who do ya think is the unnamed witness trump tried to contact (bribe, threaten, bully)

I think it's that ceo prick of overstock dot commm that was in the infamous 'unhinged' dec 18th unannounced meeting at the wh

When can the Capital Police go after them personally?

Died in jail<<

May this be the last entry on the prick's Wiki page.

Unless he goes out like a dictator.  Kaddaffi-style might make for good TV.

^Maybe. I could easily be wrong, but I've suspected that Mark Meadows has been quietly cooperating

I've been right about trump never being charged since 2016 and I'm still right. When the president does anything it's not illegal.

Keep dreaming that your corporatocracy will give up that power.

Where's the Deep State Death Squad when you need it?

> please let this be Mark Meadows...

I'm kind of hoping it's Meadows too, but concerned he'll get full immunity if the DOJ flips him. Meadows needs to spend some time in jail.

Meadows is a shit weasel, could be him, but maybe  Stephen Miller? Would be funny if was Ivanka. ..

Cheney said someone the public hadn't heard from. Miller was in yesterday's hearing. We'll see.

Legally, not answering a phone call, unless there was a blatant message left, could make it hard to PROVE tampering. Like someone else said, maybe it's a warning from Cheney.

That Palmer Report article Walstib posted is kind of all over the place in terms of its organization and style, but there's some interesting analysis in there too.

>  Miller was in yesterday's hearing.

Stephen Miller was? I don't know how I missed that. He's (non-Trump family) shit weasel #1 in my book, if only because he served longer than Bannon did.

Yes, they had some quotes from Miller about drafting the January 6 speech.

Gotcha. Thanks, Woz. I thought Slick meant Miller was present at the hearing.

I was listening on the radio driving home from Mammoth, but I am assuming it was videotaped/recorded, he definitely wasn't present.

I'm with slacker

these guys just don't have the testicular fortitude

OK not a coup at all when the Secret Service erases all their text messages from Jan 5 and 6 after they were asked to provide them, and we know that VP Pence refused to get in the car driven by the SS.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/14/politics/secret-service-text-messages-era...

Trump must've used SS phones to coordinate the Jan 6 attack and/or SS were affiliated with Proud Boys and were working to coordinate the attack

Eastman spoke at the Jan. 6, 2021 rally where Trump gave a fiery speech alleging election fraud and urging supporters to march on the Capitol.

Eastman also wrote a memo outlining how, in his view, then-Vice President Mike Pence could thwart formal congressional certification of Trump's re-election loss. Pence ultimately declined to follow Eastman's advice.

I was thinking of, you know, the other one, but Trixie seems like an intrepid sleuth too.

Trixie Belden is the title character in a series of "detective" mysteries written between 1948 and 1986...Beatrix "Trixie" Belden is a young teen living just outside the fictional town of Sleepyside-on-Hudson, in the Hudson Valley area of New York. She lives at Crabapple Farm, which had been in her family for either three or six generations (this varies between books), with her parents and three brothers, Brian, Mart, and Bobby. The first book establishes her friendship with lonely, sheltered rich girl Honey Wheeler, whose family has just moved into the Manor House next door and soon the girls are embroiled in their first case.

Trump's outtakes are pretty revealing, and hilarious in a way. Yesterday is hard for me to say.

It's great that those "outtakes" exist and we're not destroyed or turned up 'missing'

From Adam Kinzinger:

Worth remembering: Josh Hawley was the first senator to say he would object to the electoral college, causing a cascade of Ted Cruz-es. There would not have been as much oxygen to trumps coup plan without Fistpump McRunpants.

Hawley wrote a book about manliness, no?laugh

Uh, huh. It's due out next May. Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs

Steve Bannon was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress today.

Slacker, you're going to have to modify your schtick a bit.

Not really.

“The militant intolerant ideologies, the militias, the alienation and the disaffection, the weird fantasies and disinformation — they’re all still out there, ready to go. That’s the elephant in the room.”

-Adam Kinzinger

I tend think his choice of metaphor, the elephant in the room, was intentional. The GOP have their goon squads, and they are emboldened.

> I tend think his choice of metaphor, the elephant in the room, was intentional.

Good catch, OCLT, although once we start scrutinizing symbols, it could also be said that the jackasses were in the room.

Indeed. But i still tend to think it was intentional

Yeah, it seemed like he leaned into it when he said it, but I just read it as a popular trope for dysfunction.
