SF puts the kibosh on Summer of Love

Java Dave is not going to like this.

Boooooooooooooooo

I Know Boots he is a liar and an asshole who recorded artists with out permission and then marketed the recordings .He helped blow up Reggae on the River ,His own twin brother lance won't work with him .Lance is a power guy in the festival arena and a friend .I rented generator cables and power boxes from lance .He would keep an eye on the generators for the stage while I ran the electrical for the event .Lance was in charge of power at burring man for years now it's a big corporate co /So what I'm saying is I know boots he is an asshole not to be trusted . The maritime Hall is where he ripped off artists . Chet helms told him years ago to stop using his reputation to get work ....

“The Summer of Love was a cultural event that changed the world,”

It was actually an invasion of a great scene that ended up destroying it and driving most of the original participants out of the city.

The real Summer of Love was in 1966.

Sad !!!!

It was about the music mostly

What was the attendance at the original? Looking at footage my guess was 20k tops.

Do you really think the 50th anniversery would top that?

> The maritime Hall is where he ripped off artists

Interesting. I wondered about the validity of some of the official 2b1 live releases from the Maritime, of which I own a couple.

SF Park n Rec has a very shitty reputation in the eyes of Californian's who like good festivals.
Sure Hardly Strictly and Outside Lands dominate cause they pay butt loads in fees.
But SF PnR pulled the permit of Strawberry Fest to be held at Camp Mather in Yosemite (designated SF City Property)
for numerous ridiculous reasons.

"Hughston said he’d lined up Eric Burdon and War, the original rhythm section of the Santana Blues Band, and Country Joe McDonald, as well as remnants of the Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Moby Grape, Sons of Champlin and the Youngbloods."

Personallym with that line up I think the fest could attract 50,000 peeps but certainly not much bigger.  WAR w/ Burdon is fun but there's not enough there there...
Incidentally - Dead & Co have a scheduled gig that same night at Shoreline.

>>SF Park n Rec has a very shitty reputation in the eyes of...

Zoners - The parks dept were impossible to work with.

Not that I don't appreciate seeing Lurker go all tabloid on the promoters ass, but it's like Treblemaker said, no permit was issued because of  the incompetents at the City Parks dept who would just would prefer to not allow/Permit the events.

Read The Article He Is Not Prepared and has no contracts .He has pulled that shit before contact the artists they will let you know he has no contracts or anyone locked in .

Eric Burdon is well past his prime and WAR has only 1 original member.

Jefferson Starship has 1 original member (David Freiberg).

Moby Grape would be cool.

I went to the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Summer Of Love, was a great day in G.G. Park.

I attended the 20th, 30th and 40th anniversary concerts....

I also attended the 30th. Nice time, not a zillion big-name acts, I think Ray Manzanerek called in sick.

Why don't people who think this is a thing just go mill about the park and shit? Why is it always about big rock names? Shit, go be diggers for a day. Death of hippie.

Not to discount the massive suck I have heard about SF Parks and Rec, but wasn't a massive forest fire the main reason Strawberry stopped heing held at Camp Mather.

SF Rec and Park will soon be wringing their hands in the press about everybody who will be showing up in the park on April 20. Not being an event with an official sponsor they are frustrated not knowing from whom to demand and then deny a permit.

lol.... concert politics...... sigh... a notch over from cult compound politics...

>>> Why is it always about big rock names<<<

There are "big rock names" involved???

Yeah, IMO the whole thing is more than a bit of a crock. By pretty much all accounts the "Summer of Love" was the ugly end of a great little thing that had happened.

Just go have a good day. Maybe even NOT in the Park.

Although that park still does rock, "big rock names" or not.

I'll be st Shoreline.

Knowing some of the shady characters associated with putting this thing on, I'm betting this is all a big PR game. Announce the show before you have permits secured, draw the wrath of Parks and Rec and get free press for weeks while shaming the city into granting the permit.....

Can we please move on from the 60's?

Thanks.

As Blue Oyster Cult once said, "this ain't the Summer Of Love", more like the Summer Of Trump, which will probably be much more of an angrier time.

Strange days for Peace Frogs.

Most have. What's holding you back? Let it go. Pointing it out just shows your own attachment. Be free of what weighs you down and fly.

Can we please move on from the 60's?

What are you thinking ?
