A wake-up call to us all I think. Too many people have become too lax in practicing the simple preventative measures against covid. This BA5 variant is the most contagious yet and hospitalizations have been increasing significantly recently because of this. Covid doesn't care if you are Phil Lesh or anybody else. Being that he is well over 20 years out from his liver transplant is a big risk. He takes immunocompromising meds every day. I'm sure he is all vaxed up, but the reality of the situation is that he is a high risk individual for complications from this nasty virus. Pains me to say that. Sure hope he is ok.
I've also seen how very few are taking precautions with new variant. I could literally count on my fingers the number of people wearing a mask at the cheese show last evening besides myself
I'm actually surprised he's touring as much as he is given his cautious approach with the pandemic. He's still a high risk for problems based on his transplant situation. Hope he's good for Philoween as I've got tickets and travel plans in place.
Soooooooooo sad to hear. Last night's SCI at Red Rocks really good with Yonder Mt. Going tonight, SCI with Left Over Salmon, gonna be a blast. Deciding about Sun??? Refund sounds enticing though. Decisions???? Decisions????
This latest variant is going around like wildfire and it seems I know more people who have caught the Covid in recent weeks than haven't. Good news is that people aren't dropping like flies as they did during previous waves and everyone I know who caught it recently has experienced just relatively mild symptoms (knock on wood) that are no worse than a head cold or moderate flu.
Decision: Refunded tix, standby on Sun flight (1/2 open), cancel Sun Hotel, Save 1-day rental car. Total = $500 +/-. Hard decision especially with "Never Miss A Sunday."
>>> Good news is that people aren't dropping like flies as they did during previous waves and everyone I know who caught it recently has experienced just relatively mild symptoms (knock on wood) that are no worse than a head cold or moderate flu. <<<
Definitely good news. May we assume that those people are vaccinated/boosted?
Hard to say what each person's conditions and situations may be but I too know many people who have contracted it more recently than I have throughout the entire pandemic, with mostly overall favorable outcomes. That is not to say that some were very sick, reporting it was the sickest they ever recall being. Be careful out there. On the upside, none of them were hospitalized or worse. It is difficult to prove out but 'some' of the worst cases in the aforementioned loose social/family group were a little lagging in the recommended shots/boosters.
My kid and wife tested positive and each have had mild symptoms (kid's been walking 5-10 miles/day with me, masks on while outside the house). It's been at least 2 weeks and I still am testing negative.
I hope that Phil and everyone else have similar experiences.
