Leper Van Atom Celebration of Life July 30, 2022

Hello dear Zoners. Leper Van Atom's (Vern Peltomaa) Celebration of Life will be on July 30, 2022 at Mirror Lake on the Ohio State campus. We're calling it Vern Fest. There are 15 - 20 musicians who will play, most of them played in Vern's band Local Color at some time. I'll play one song on the keyboard, a song Vern and I wrote with his friend, but most will be wonderful Columbus musicians who loved Vern. Just for Judit, John Hurlbut will hopefully be able to play a few tunes, FPR schedule permitting, he and Vern had a special friendship.
Mirror Lake is a favorite for us. Vern's band often played benefits there. I met Vern's friends in the 1980s, because they realized Mirror Lake had electricity at all hours, so they plugged in a reggae or rock band on Sunday afternoons and provided free shows without OSU permission. Gotta love college.
I don't expect anyone to come, I just wanted to post this as it happens because the Zone was one of Vern's best friends. Reading a Zone post is like talking to Vern, subjects he would love to discuss, so in a way the Zone keeps him alive, and I'm Jerry grateful for that.

We should have one friend take a video shot, then we're going to ask everyone in the crowd to video on their phones when possible, then they will email the video to a friend who will edit the shots into a video. We'll see how this works...Thanks for all the great vibes, it sucks losing a best, wonderful friend.

Hey! Thanks to all of you here, and to those who are making Vern Fest happen! I'm Lil's sister Phyll, and just got in from Oregon for the celebration. Lil wants you all to know that Vern Fest can be streamed from FaceBook (search Vern Fest or the Local Color page) and will be video'd for later. Lil will share it on the Zone!
I'll miss Vern forever, and am so glad wonderful friends imagined an event that will capture his spirit, love of friends and family, and love for the music that makes you feel--it's what it's all about.
