Till Ike joind up, this is my favorite Zappa live band, the slimed down version, nowhere to hide, incredible tight but loose musicianship all right out front. I saw this band the previous month at the Palace, both shows. Just wow.
Rough recording here but worth a listen, the Stink Foot alone will knock yer dick in the dirt.
I understand the sentiment considering the vast amount of FZ releases already out, but since this is pretty much the OZ lineup and knowing what a great live release that was, I'm certainly interested in hearing this.
1st time I saw the Mothers as they were billed was 72 at the Palace in Waterbury and Frank sat all nite with his leg in a full cast. His playing was astounding. A tape of that show exists somewhere.
Here's a great interview with him discussing the injury incident that fucked him up bad for quite a while. The Rainbow, way worse than just some Smoke On The Water.

Time for more Zappa mythology, you mentioned Sleep Dirt, I'm sure you know that was part of a 3 album project he was concocting. But those record executive pricks as he refers to them, Warner Bros, refused to release it so they chopped it up and released single albums. Sleep D, Orchestral Favorites and sumthin else I forget. Anyway The Lather disc set is the complete project,,, but because of lawyer bullshit, not released till after Frank passed. Phenomenal stuff, you know most of it I bet.
But to get back at Warner Bros for fucking with his work, he went into some west coast radio station with the original Lather tapes and had the complete thing broadcast free over the air.

One of my least favorite lineups, including pedophile Roy Estrada.

You guessed it, it was the slim down Wazoo band. Quite the intro for me
This site is a treasure trove, can answer most if not all of your FZ lineup questions.
