50 years ago...Greetings From Asbury Park

Forums:

Hard to believe that Bruce Springsteen is still going strong with new music that still is among the best stuff released and his concerts are as good today as they have ever been.

And it all started 50 years ago with the release of his first album, Greetings From Asbury Park. I'm glad John Hammond took a flier on that ratty looking beach scamp from Freehold, NJ. It was a pretty good bet for all those involved.

Never been a big fan of the dude, but never saw him live either.   He is coming to Portland next month and checked last night for tickets.  Nose bleeds behind the stage were $250 plus fees and it was only uphill from there.

I will keep checking and if I can find any for $150 or less, will go and see the dude and his band.  Heard they put on a good show.

Yet Portland was about the easiest venue to get tickets.  We got right in and got them at face value ($150). We're trying to get Seattle and right now lower bowl is $1000 and up. Although I'm guessing they will come down closer to show time, I'll think we'll punt and wait for round 2 of the tour.

An absolute monster live performance.  Been going to his shows for 40 years and can't wait for this set of shows.

Good plan. With stadiums on tap for the second US go around, dynamic pricing won't be as much of a problem. There are normally drops of held back tickets in Springsteen tours and I suspect those who stay close to the computer will do ok with finding tickets closer to show time.

Hope Bruce Busts Out TUCSON TRAIN extended Live Version During this Tour.

Bruce was probably the best rock concert I probably saw..

This was it.

Seeing the tour closer in Buffalo 09 sealed the deal for me with this album... even Arkansas and Angel made the grade imho.... altho cmon, Blinded, Growin Up, 82nd st, Lost in the Flood, Spirit, Saint???? All carry some serious weight ....killer album

That was quite a show. Sadly, it was also the last E Street Band show with Clarence Clemons. :(

We got in the pit but also had lower tier seats as my wife was pregnant and not sure she could stand. Tickets outside were hard to get so I wanted to sell but am glad we kept em. It was the most packed I've ever seen a pit. Ended up in the tier seats for the entire show . The Growin up segment with C still gives me tears to listen to

First saw Bruce @ Red Rocks ( my first RR show ) August '81 for The River...like a 3.5-4 hour show, long, hot, and funnnn...great Rock n Roll show. Saw him again in like '85 /'86 maybe, @ the Orange Bowl and was same but by this time he was into the Born in the USA material...

Have not seen him since and i am Ok with that....

Saw him on his first tour out west. Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix. Sat in the first row. 1975?

Lucky for me, I lived there when the amazing William Edward Compton (Compton Terrace is named for him) ran a great progressive radio station KDKB and we were well aware of "The Boss."

When my friend went to the box office one morning to buy tix for Zappa, the woman behind the window said "Tickets just went on sale for Bruce Springsteen."

"Really? Where would we sit if we bought some now?"  "Front row" was the answer. Been on the bus hard ever since. Had a rotating stage, but David Sancious was right in front of me when he did his piano run in the early part of "NYC Serenade."

Traveled to Denver in Sept '85 for "Born in the USA" tour (sleeted out the first night) and to Phoenix in December of 2012, and saw him here in SLC. So much love and respect for Bruce. One of the best live performers ever.

Right on Slick!

My sentiments exactly!

Nobody like Bruce!

Born and raised in NJ, so kind of felt obligated ..... saw him once.

Great great showman, writer, & band. Folks having religious (Dead show -esque) experiences all around us.

Wife and I went straight to the lot at Giants Stadium from a camping trip. Lot scene was great!

....and there was a cosmic burp: neighboring cars had brought all the fixins for a major tailgate - EXCEPT a grill.

We whipped out our Coleman propane camping stove with 4 burners and saved the day.

Great musician whom I admire, but have never bought an album/CD

I believe I have heard Nod's story from the other side before. Way to go!

For those who have never seen Springsteen live, I suggest you figure out a way to do it on this tour. Info seems to point to this tour will be the last E Street Band tour. Springsteen will still tour going forward but in some different form. Given that the US dates are just the first US leg of the tour, you will probably get many more opportunities if you are so inclined.
