I had forgotten how much I enjoyed hearing this band at my Nephew's wedding a couple of years ago. If you're in NY check out Moma Juke https://www.mamajukemusic.com/
As a semi-working musician, there's no better gig. They pay you, they feed you, it's all fun cover tunes and everyone is in a partyin' mood. I wedding season.
Back in my Jersey days I knew a reed player who was on call as a sub for Southside Johnny.
His regular gig was a wedding band, six piece, they all sang and were multi-instrumentalists, all good readers. Booked nearly every Sat and Sun, $10,000 fee. Two years booked out.
My cousin got married at in Philly and had a great Soul band play - 12 musicians. That was 15 years ago, I think she paid $12,000. Seemed about the going rate at the time.
40 years ago we had a band play our wedding, they were pretty good. Country/Rock group. They charged us $500. They did need to learn Hava Nagila. And luckily they knew ONE Grateful Dead song. So Friend of the Devil was the first dance, seriously. It got everyone up and dancing! We only had 65 guests and got married at a Bed and Breakfast in NH (Darby Field Inn) - it was the first wedding they hosted - I think the total bill was under $3000.
Now they host weddings year round, same owners - and they figured out they can charge way more..
I get why some people just elope nowadays. The costs to host a wedding are insane
