Say it ain't so Joe.

Heard a rumor that Biden will use the State of the Union address to announce his bid for reelection.

What happened to one and done?

You mean like “One and Done Donald Chump?”

I think Biden has long-abandoned the notion of a voluntary single term and would be very surprised if the stubborn old goat did NOT run again in '24, however, I'd also be surprised if he uses the SOTU speech as a vehicle to make such an announcement...but ya never know.

“Look, I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else,” Biden said in March 2020, as he campaigned in Michigan with younger Democrats, including now-Vice President Kamala Harris, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. “There’s an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the future of this country.”

Umm never believe a politician when they talk about whether they will run for something in the future during a campaign. If they are running for the house and the Senate seat opens up yes they will run for Senate. If they are running for Senate and the Governor seat opens yes they will run for Governor. If they are running for dog catcher they will also run for President. They all 100% of the time lie about that shit. It's kind of like a test to see how well they lie since lying convincingly is a big part of the job.

Joe can run, but he could get primaried too.

^let's see who, if anyone, is gutsy enough to do that and, if so, where their funding and support may come from and how DNC responds, etc. But yea, let's have some fireworks! It would just likely all be better off if he doesn't seek a 2nd term but time is ticking.

Well Kristin Sinema had dinner with Kevin McCarthy after he met with Biden, so I wouldn't be surprised if she runs as a third party candidate. She will get a bigger pay day from that than Jill Stein ever got.

Gavin Newsom has been making some noise and pointing it in the direction of Ron DeSantis the last few months. He's got executive experience and is somewhat well-known from coast to coast at this point.

I can't think of anyone else at the moment though. Beto O'Rourke really doesn't have enough experience, Stacey Abrams hasn't been on a winning streak, and Bernie's just too old now, isn't he?

Oh, and I didn't mention Kamala Harris because I think the optics of disloyalty wouldn't be a good look for her. The Governor of CA could probably rise above that, but not the VP.

Dems need some new populist candidates...   i'm always wondering if there's a gem in the rough out there, getting shit done, but not so publicly well known to have been destroyed by the right wing media machine.  Obama and Bill Clinton both fit those roles perfectly.   Bernies all we got right now (old, doesn't play well with others), doubt Kamala nor Mayor Pete will run against their boss...   both are interesting (I really like Pete), but they've got pretty limited bases right now.

Sinema is very likely toast in '24 (AZ doesn't send Independents to D.C.) but McCarthy can tease some semblance of support as she tries to remain being a Senator to get her votes on some key issues which may be a smoother path for him than 'cratering' to the far-right. Seems like Newsom, Pritzker, et al have more less resigned themselves to seeking the '28 ticket but, again, we'll see what Biden ultimately decides to do. Kamala probably gets lost in the mix and washed out, for better or worse. Biden leaned on her appeal to some segments of the electorate to get to the WH but has not helped her since. She would have made a MUCH better AG but that's all water under the bridge at this point. The DNC/Dem party will be seeking a cohesive team and message moving towards '24 (in contrast to what we have been seeing from the other side) and will be ramping up pressure to get/stay behind Biden - or whomever emerges in the wake of his potentially impending decision. Biden is a stubborn fool and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

>> Gavin Newsom has been making some noise and pointing it in the direction of Ron DeSantis the last few months. He's got executive experience and is somewhat well-known from coast to coast at this point.

Precisely so. He is very likely the presumptive frontrunner if Biden steps aside

On top of any of this 'other stuff,' the '24 Senate map is GOP-favorable and they have already started targeting D Senators from Red and Purple states. Mitch is completely done with yielding to Rick Scott's picks and methodologies too.

I'd love to see Pete Buttigieg run instead.  He's super smart, Rhoades scholar, served his country, has (seemingly)youthful vigor and energy.

I'm guessing too many people are stuck in the 'he's gay' argument so this won't happen for a while.

:(

Cheney has said she will run independent if T----p gets the GOP nom.

Old Joe is old but I would vote for a yellow dog over The Traitor.

Joe also has my vote if he runs. Many millions of dollars will be spent trying to convince those few undecided/"Independent" on-the-fence swing  voters.

> I'm guessing too many people are stuck in the 'he's gay' argument so this won't happen for a while.

With the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act last year, with bipartisan support in the Senate, I wonder if we might have gotten to the point where being gay isn't an instant disqualifier in a Presidential race like it once was.

^I hope so...and also that DeSantis continues to paint himself into the non-winning/loser corner of the electorate and country at large.

tRump is losing out of the gate (and raising near zero money) now that "conservative" groups Club For Growth, Americans For Prosperity, and The Koch Machine are all committed to actively campaigning against him too.

I was not a Biden supporter, but I think he has done a better job than expected.

The right would destroy Pete or Gavin.

It would be a superb moment in history if he fired up a doobie half way through and just kept going on like it's just another Tuesday.

>where being gay isn't an instant disqualifier in a Presidential race like it once was.

hell, the GOP are solidly behind a DragQueen so it's not that far of a stretch.

and not that there's anything wrong with being a DragQueen, just that this one is sociopath. and no, not all politicians lie THAT much.

>I'd love to see Pete Buttigieg run instead.  He's super smart, Rhoades scholar, served his country, has (seemingly)youthful vigor and energy.<

we need young neo-cons...

>>>The right would destroy Pete or Gavin.

Pete probably, but people have been under estimating Gavin from back when I worked my ass off trying to keep him from being Mayor of SF. The guy comes out on top, and he has Getty money behind him. I never thought he would be Mayor, never thought he would be Governor, I won't bet against him being President.

Ohhh Boom MTG !

Go Joe!

The thing is, you watch Biden give a big speech, and realize the caricatures of him as a doddering old buffoon are pretty off-base. He sometimes slides his words together a little when he's going fast, but he's lucid and generally pretty forceful

That speech was like a Dead show...   took a bit to gel, some slop, some improv, tight sections, space, spitting,  let the spin begin

...and he did sort of at least allude to seeking re-election via 'we're just getting started/let's finish the job'. The rebuttal was horrid anti-"woke" red meat. Lotta doubling down across the board.

The best was when he trolled MAGA, and both MTG and Boebert had hissy fits.

I liked how the old man roped the Republicans into the we will not touch social security corral. Led them right in with the bread crumbs and got them to do a future TV promo. Sleepy Joe Rope-a-Dope

Money shot Marjorie pose.

Here is MT "streetwalker stuck lips" Greene arguing with cops just before getting arrested for solicitation...completely reminding me of when I worked in a building that shared a back alley with Chicago Police HQ in the 80's and the hookers would be spilling out of paddy wagons in the morning. Best coffee break entertainment at work ever.

Joe BE Like FUCK YOU BITCH !

Like at a Gallagher show, they should have given the row in front of her rain gear

Sloppy Joe establishing "consensus" on social security and Medicare was masterful.

Calling chuck schumer the senate minority leader was not.

Dragging Tyre Nichols' family to the sotu and then threw them softballs with platitudes about "the talk". Then pivoted by completely avoiding the solution of shitcanning qualified immunity. Anything less merely pays lip service to the dire need for actual meaningful police reform. This is the real red meat at the heart of the issue. Qualified immunity is the bullseye. But merely repeating the mother's words "Something good to come out of this" and not offering much in the way of follow-up strategy is just a total a non-statement and in my eyes just demonstrates a lack of serious engagement.

Raise corporate taxes good

$35 insulin good

completely avoiding the very present and obvious immigration crisis that is only getting worse.

Prosecuting fentanyl trafficking as domestic terrorism seems like low hanging fruit to me. Another missed opportunity?

probably the most energetic demeanor I've seen from him in recent years. I think he did a decent job connecting with his audience this time.

Must've done a couple lines before the speech.   (I did not watch)

>> completely avoiding the very present and obvious immigration crisis that is only getting worse.

He talked about it -- said pass my immigration reform bill, or at least my plan to add equipment and officers to strengthen border security

That was whitewash. Okay, maybe saying he completely avoided the topic is unfair.

the words are comprehensive immigration reform, not "let's buy equipment and stuff!"

finish the job?

apparently not just my opinion

https://thehill.com/latino/3848536-biden-gives-lip-service-to-immigratio...

And let’s also come together on immigration and make it a bipartisan issue like it was before.

We now have a record number of personnel working to secure the border, arresting 8,000 human smugglers and seizing over 23,000 pounds of fentanyl in just the last several months.

Since we launched our new border plan last month, unlawful migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has come down 97%.

But America’s border problems won’t be fixed until Congress acts.

If you won’t pass my comprehensive immigration reform, at least pass my plan to provide the equipment and officers to secure the border. And a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, those on temporary status, farm workers, and essential workers.

Wasn't going to, but ended up watching. I mean, pretty much his best speech ever, amidst live trolling. Greene is just a gross low class human, gross.

unco Joe in round 2, i dunno...Jesus. Obviously the dnc is not promoting Kamala...

shit show. El Presidente de Santis!

dems should run that 6.7 big normal working class guy. The path is obvious, they continue to Charlie Brown the kick.

El Niño made me laugh

>>>>the words are comprehensive immigration reform

Exactly, but the reason I fear that is not going to happen soon is that for the powers that be, the current dysfunctional situation is actually working.   Right wing media personalities and politicians get to scream bloody murder and get all the xenophobes worked up about the "invasion," while at the same time businesses get an endless supply of cheap unregulated labor and the migrants get wages they couldn't otherwise earn back home.

As long as businesses continue to make money on an undocumented and unregulated work force, people are going to keep coming.  And putting up more physical barriers isn't the answer.  Many of these folks crossed the Darien Gap on foot for Christ's sake and dropping some shipping containers at the border isn't going to keep them from the final destination.

>>>>dems should run that 6.7 big normal working class guy.

Yep.  Joe just needs to check his ego and pass the torch.  Bill Clinton 2.0 would destroy whatever wack job the GOP trots out.

>>>>dems should run that 6.7 big normal working class guy.

Yeah. Maybe not. https://www.yahoo.com/news/democratic-sen-john-fetterman-suffered-052642...

Joe can and should run on his record.

Comprehensive immigration reform has been repeatedly sandbagged by repubs.  Their only interest in immigration is raising money off it and lying about it.

Obama went down the road with Republicans on immigration reform and as always Lucy pulled the ball away. Obama stepped up enforcement on the boarder. Deported more people than ever and got roasted on the left for it, and when it came time to pass some reform the Republicans all bailed. They love the border issue. They will do absolutely nothing to solve it. From 2016 to 2018 the Republicans had full control of the House, Senate majority and the President, and they didn't do shit about immigration.

E-Verify for businesses with real penalties for hiring undocumented workers would be a huge step in stopping the flow. Until we see that no one is serious about immigration.

All that said Democrats need to change their tune because if you believe in global warming you better also believe that there will be mass migration. Asylum laws have to be changed. Right now you can claim asylum for domestic violence. I'm not saying that DV isn't life threatening but world wide there are probably 2 billion people who are victims of DV. We can't give 2 billion people asylum in the US. Mostly the left has to message that our borders aren't open. As the sign says no one is illegal but that doesn't mean they can all come to the US.

They will do absolutely nothing to solve it.

The Republicans don't want to solve it, then there would be nothing to bitch about. Given that they offer nothing constructive on any front, bitchin' and a mumblin' is all they have

Wow Republicans really have no idea how articulate anything outside of their media bubble. This is just a disaster interview for Republicans I look forward to more like this.

^Good Times. Asshat Scott should have been "retired" long ago but here we are and there he is - Thanks Florida! Take a look at The Huckster's SOTU rebuttal from the other night that hopefully is the incoherent grievance platform and GOP message moving forward and up to the 2024 race.
