Who knew it was an L. Frank Baum allegory for the Populist 1890 movement...adding Silver to the Gold Standard
Oz = ounce
Tornado = 1893 run on the banks
Yellow Brick Road = gold standard
Dorothy = common American
Scarecrow = farmers
Tin Man = industrial workers
Wizard = Con artist running the money system defrauding the public
Wicked Witches = Evil banks
Ruby slippers = actually in the book they were Silver slippers, changed for the movie to ruby
Not surehow I missed this connection for so long. Now I'm gonna re-read the original book... feed your head.
