Phish Spring West Coast Run

Forums:

Lottery is open now.   Put in for the two-day Seattle pass.

Would also be trying for the Greek, but will in Fla for BMFS.

Phish Spring Tour 2023

04/14 Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle, WA
04/15 Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle, WA
04/17 Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA
04/18 Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA

04/21 Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA
04/22 Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA
04/23 Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, CA

....LA shows are same weekend as Skull & Roses. Noteworthy as there is some cross-over appeal.

No spot taken for either. Carry On.

Is "Climate Pledge" a corporation :-)

Didn't know about that name, I like it!

Interesting that it's the one indoor arena ... guess the climate is more likely to suit one's clothes further south on the west coast.

Yeah.  April can be wet and cold in the PNW.    The "Climate Pledge Arena" is the old Key Arena.  Saw Phish there in 2014.

Being indoors makes it 'climate controlled', right?

8 shows in 3 cities (opposed to some of the other carbon-bomb touring habits seen with other bands) may be a sorta nod to at least trying to be 'minimally invasive' on pollution, etc.

I'm getting old because all I see is Monday Tuesday Wednesday shows. Full GA with a bunch of semi-professional concert goers which means having to get there super early to have anything like a decent seat. Did I say seat I meant concrete stairs, and finally April outdoors is cutting it close in Berkeley could be full on rain shows. But it's Phish at the Greek what are you going to do -  have to go to the show, but won't be too bummed if I get shut out of these.

>>>Is "Climate Pledge" a corporation

It's owned by Amazon, so, yes.

bicycle day @ the greek is a no brainer

>>>having to get there super early to have anything like a decent seat<<<

It's been a long time since I've gotten to the Greek early, but I would think if you're there right around doors you'd get a good to decent spot in the stones. Most people who line up before doors will pile into the pit. I guess it depends on what you would consider super early & decent seats.

Personally, as much as I love/revere the Greek, I would prefer these shows to be at the BG Civic. Same capacity with a more rockin' vibe, and (old man talking here) so much easier to navigate. Plus, the weather would be no concern (if it's raining in the BA in April anything.

Still, way, WAY better than Shoreline or Chase, at least for those who get tix.

I saw phish at the Greek once... with jj Cale. Eugene Gd-Shoreline GD-phish late summer run. Doesn't seem so long ago

Well, I guess I sent that message a bit incomplete....

"If it's raining in the BA anything like it's been raining this past week, the shows may well end up at the Civic."

And I was at that Phish show with JJ Cale opening, summer of '93. It wasn't even close to sold out, the quiet just before the storm.

Yea I walked up and bought tickets to the Shoreline GD shows and the Greek Phish show. Eugene GD was the only set I bought in advance, as well as the Oct JGB warfield run a month later.

Yeah couldn't agree more on the BG Civic. I don't understand the hate it gets. As for getting there when doors open yes that would work for getting a good seat as long as your are willing to get in a fight with the tarp people. I think you may have had a few too many years with the Greek VIP bracelets that get you that sweet spot behind the sound board. Those were nice when I used to get them.

Greek or BGCC? Either is a win!

The way this Winter is shaping up, it could be a very rainy April, which would be awesome if it meant the shows got moved to the BGCA (another upvote that place, and downvote for the Greek).

Either way I will unfortunately probably only be able to hit the Monday night show.  It's tough to get away from work during the week these days (ah, the joys of running a small business), so for that reason we'll be going to weekend shows at the Hollywood Bowl.

We were just there in Oct for Danny Elfman's kickass show and it was my first time at the venue.  One thing I found out was that it's a MAJOR clusterfuck getting in and out.  Parking is stacked so you can't leave until all cars in front of you leave, and there's too much traffic and too many people to get an Uber without walking down towards the sketchy-at-night Hollywood Blvd, waiting,  and paying surge rates, so I booked a hotel a few blocks away and we'll just fly down, taxi to/from the hotel, and walk to the venue.

My curmudgeonly self also likes the 4 seat box configuration in the front half of the bowl. It keep the wedgers at bay, comes with food/drink service, and has mesh folding chairs that can be set off to the side when standing/rocking out.  And if it does rain, at least it will be a little warmer than up here in the BA. Only downside is it will cost a lot more than just driving up to the Greek (but ah, the rewards of running a small, and for the moment, fairly profitable business).

Got a Greek Nite 2 tix. This is the first time I've planned to go to a Phish show in advance...

How did you Phreaks do in the lottery?

have fun hall.

the 4 box is great, so i thought for willie andf phil...unfortunately it is not enough to insulate you from everyone...i almost got into a fight...

Got two-night floor passes for Seattle.

YAY KEN!!!!!!!!

excited for anyone who attends

it'll be phun: clusterfuckage or no

Shut out! Was hoping to get back to the Greeks.  Saw the Dead there in 1988 and was indescribably special!

Can't stop in Salem for a quickie - eh??

Bastardos

Shut out on all 3 nites at the Greek.

Not stoked on having to go to Ticket Bastard now.

sadUnfulfilled.

>>>>not stoked on having to go to Ticket Bastard now.

Check Cash or Trade.   There were plenty of people trying to sell tickets for all the Phish shows yesterday.   I guess some people hedged their bets with multiple ticket requests and now have tickets they don't need.   We ended up with two extras for Seattle on Saturday but will hang on to them until closer to show time and see who needs them.

Got Terrace Box x 3 for Hollywood Bowl!

^^
Thx Ken

Will do.

Was anyone here successful in getting Greek Theater tix? I got shut out both via Phish and Ticketbastard.

I was able to score Hollywood Bowl tix w/o much difficulty instead.

Yes!!

Fulfilled

Fully loaded for Seattle and Greeks.  I'm from LA and three nights at the Bowl sound so rough.  In/out/parking/dealing/driving/newbs etc.  Will attend the Sun closer but the rest of the weekend feels like a cluster.

^ I'm flyin' into Burbank, uber-ing to/from a hotel that's stumbling distance from the Bowl. And after reading Turtle's bad review of the boxes, I snagged individual seats (for Fri and Sat) with armrests on the front row of the "super seats" (right above the soundboard), so I should be able to defend my zone.

Also in for the Tuesday show at the Greek, which should be fun, but more work.  Fuck I'm getting old... can't believe this will be my 30th (!) year seeing Phish (first saw them when they were the opener for Santana at the Concord Pavilion in the year Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Two).

GTTS!

I just saw a 3-night Hollywood Bowl pass on TM for $185 + fees which seems surprisingly low...but no spot taken.

Headed up to Seattle tomorrow for the Phish.  First domestic shows since NYE.

Hope everyone who is going has a blast!

hope you had the best time, Ken

sounded fab the next day!!

A friend gave me a ticket for Saturday night's gig.

Pretty decent little show of funk music for white people, with a nice nod to Jimi with Izabella.

Pretty sure that was my first time seeing Harry Hood.  Prince Caspian was huge, as were many of the tunes in this jam heavy evening.  When The Circus Comes To Town was solid, and the three song encore seemed to indicate the band enjoyed it too.  I enjoyed the Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S. to close it out.

Chris Kuroda has a lot of new gadgets in his rig.  Lights were off the hook.

>>>>Chris Kuroda has a lot of new gadgets in his rig.  Lights were off the hook.

Agreed.  Talked with lots of other folks and the consensus was that the light rig really stole the show.   We were standing six feet from CK both nights watching him do his magic:

Seattle Phish.jpg

Music was good too.  Really liked the jamed out Chalkdust Torture to close out the first set on the second night.  Got into a total Allman Bros style groove.

 >>>>funk music for white people

Was thinking these shows were James Brown meets Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Everybody on Phish couch tour can thank this guy:

Phish Camera Crew.jpg

Solid shows. Mike's new bass, in-ear monitors, and new lights freshened things up.

I was rear floor Fri and the lights are definitely more effective farther back. Sat I was section 2, closer to the stage, and felt like I was watching the mechanics of the light rig, not getting the full pattern effect.

Wow, what a bizarre night.

I started by driving to the venue about a half hour before doors, and everything was overwhelmed, the line, the parking, everything. I've never seen the line at the Greek as long as it was tonight.

Me being new to ADA needs I was also overwhelmed, and ultimately there was no hope so I went back to my hotel, as the scene was totally impossible to deal with.

But I'm no quitter, so I went back at set-break, found easy parking, got into the venue and found a spot in ADA just as lights went down, and oh my, I got the type of set I pay my money for...

My Soul > Tweezer > Simple > Rock and Roll

A four song set. Jamming, melting, rock & roooooling. The best set ever played? Of course not. A great set of jamming, wide open, truly improvisational rock 'n roll in a perfect setting?

You bet.

A GREAT set of music, played in the moment, FOR the moment.

phishgreek23_0.jpg

Just a little rock 'n roll, that's all we ask.

So tomorrow, I need to get there earlier.

Way to be persistent, Lance.  That set looks like a face-melter.  I was hoping for a Rock 'n' Roll encore on Saturday, but they saved it for Berkeley.

Greek Theatre

Berkeley, California

SET 1: The Curtain With, Carini -> All of These Dreams, Stash, Halfway to the Moon, Mull > Undermind, Theme From the Bottom

SET 2: My Soul > Tweezer > Simple > Rock and Roll

ENCORE: Miss You, Sand

The Curtain With was performed for the first time since June 30, 2019 (117 shows). During Carini, Trey mentioned Frenchie (Tim Gazaille), a fan who had passed away the previous day.

Fantasti c show last night. the Tweezer was EPIC! :)

rave reviews from everyone i've talked to. Lights, band, venues, everything all 10/10

good to know the zoners seem to agree

Clearly (or not so clearly) I need to work on my photos with my newfangled smart phone.

They moved doortime today to 4:30, which should help with the shitshow the scene was yesterday. They had to hold the show almost 45 minutes to get everyone in, and with a firm 10:00pm curfew that lead to the shorter time for the 2nd set. But I was thinking that it could have been the shorter time than normal for their 2nd set that lead them to jump right into the deep end and not mess around with any of their silliness or foofoo songs.

I'll take an 1:15 second set with a 15 minute encore every show, if they play like they did last night.

I like most Phish, but I LOVE the Phish I had last night.

Another very interesting night.

Again I waltzed in at set break, so easy and relaxed that way, and I again squeezed into a spot in the ADA section.

The studious young Cal student usher was vexed that I was taking a spot that had been occupied, but I assured him that it would all work out. He wasn't convinced, and I was impressed with his diligence.

The set started and after a few minutes the person who had the spot earlier came back, and that person turned out to be the legendary philzoner Jessica, of belly dancing and many other attributes fame!

What a small world, and how great to see the always effervescent Jessica. Of course it all worked out and the usher was duly impressed that I knew the person he was concerned about. All's well that ends well there.

The 2nd set was also effervescent. Not as impressive on paper as the night before, but the jamming went way out there again, in ways perhaps better than the night before, and the band took that great old venue and all of us for a ride around, and above, the neighborhood once again.

A good time was had by all. A great set of music, in a great venue with great people, what more can be asked?

Phish is playing well folks, catch 'em if you can.

(Jessica took this shot of me enjoying the show...)

Damn. A double-post.

Sorry about that chief.

Such a fun, three night run.  Loved the early start times and the band/crew is getting it done as always.  Thought last night was the best of the three. Unfortunately the shows felt way oversold.  The Greek staff had zero control over the crowd and it was almost impossible to move around the venue at all. Granted, when you're in the lower bowl, there are no better sight lines in the Bay Area.  Just so many people...

Also ran into (for maybe the first time ever) concert goers who cared zero about personal space.  Last two nights, had guys just walk up and plant right in our secured space.  I get that these shows are GA, but don't we have still have some unofficial social contract (at least here on the West Coast) where people kind of respect the concept of held space?

Sorry for the "get off my lawn" rant, but there were a lot of people who left their manners at home this week.  Off to LA and (thankfully) reserved seating!  GTTS!

The Phish from Vermont came to Berkeley and absolutely laid waste to the Greek Theatre. the place was smoke and ashes after they were done. That Mike's>Sea of Stars>Weekapaugh was a 30 minute mind melting masterpiece.

That's what I call rock and roll. Trey in full on rock guitar mode. Hot damn!

Sounds like my final straw shows in 98(island tour). Haven't been to a show since. That will change this summer as my daughter begged me to get tickets, she's dying to see them. Gonna be interesting to see if I can relate to any of it

Had fun at the last shows I went to a few years ago and finally got a Fuck your face.  ....But the lights stole the show as others have hinted at.   Not sure I'll return but if I do, they woul dbe a mojor reason.

Guys, they are playing great right now. I think you'll be able to dig it.....

Went N2 and had a great show. Not all that familiar with the songs but the jammin' get me dancin'. Electric vibe for the most part but I could sense the issues that come from any oversold GA RnR show...

Got in last night without a ticket . Fun show.

i was offered a pair for today. i declined. glad you kids enjoyed it.
