Yes, the poster may have the wrong date. Can't tell if that's a 2 or a 3  cool

Lengthy Facebook discussions about the 3, it seems like a (sloppy?) affectation to me.

Thanks, Zooey.

Marcus?

pretty cool

I can buy tix on Wed with my AEX card.. however they’re $75 plus fees and it won’t sell out, and very possible AXS/Goldenvoice  will  discount tix as the date approaches,  so tempted to wait...

>Marcus?<

warren 2.0...

> warren 2.0

With a MAGA twist, and he's playing Kid Rock's No Snowflakes tour.

Maybe Phil is trying to use his Jedi powers to get Marcus to leave the dark side? Not that it worked with Jackie Greene..

wait, does Marcus King have a bunch of MAGA idiot fans?! And yeah, this snowflake wants to know.

His wife sang the national anthem at a Trump rally last year.

Friday evening at 6:00? Ugh. Might be easier to couch tour this one.

wozzzzzz what is a couch tour?

i did not enjoy marcus when his band played at felton

i do enjoy phil at frost

i did not enjoy marcus when his band played at felton

It's watching the webcast instead of fighting traffic to get to Stanford after picking my son up from High School at 3:00pm in Marin. If I weren't driving round trip to LA for Willie's birthday the weekend before I might not be so ambivalent, but the drive plus Marcus King and Grahame doesn't help. Last year's Phil at  Frost was pretty underwhelming. Weakest of the 6 shows I caught.

On sale 10 am:  Pass = CINCO

On sale 10 am:  Pass = CINCO

Agreed, Woz.

that being said, the venue is easy access for me so maybe I'll head over if I'm in the mood and they slash ticket prices.

Marcus King is a buzz kill

I don't know Marcus, but I met several of his band members last time they played the Neptune Theatre, and they were a pleasure to have in the shop.  Nice guys, enthusiastic music fans, glad to be able to tour and support their musical passion.  If you're going to cancel Marcus just because of the actions of his wife, it seems like a slippery slope.  Does that make Phil guilty of association too?   Are you going to stop seeing him too?

I am going. I have never seen a show at the Frost and I haven't seen Phil since 2019 so I need to be there and its a family outing for my wife,  my son, and me. It should be a fun time for us and then we will head to Santa Cruz to check out our son's scene and enjoy that sleepy lost in time town.

>cancel Marcus just because of the actions of his wife, it seems like a slippery slope.

It's about him joining Kid Rock's hate  crusade

Marcus King? I hope he likes tomatoes, because he will be bombarded with them

can't hold Marcus to account for his wife's actions, but what is this Kid Rock hate crusade and when did Marcus join into this?

Is it possible to Uber to and from The Frost from my hotel in Palo Alto?

Yes, Uber is an option. Check out the free shuttle to campus. https://transportation.stanford.edu/marguerite

Thanks for canceling me, Marcus.

Yeah, his wife has sung the anthem at MAGA rallies.  King has left Warren's management company.

Phil?

I don't know about you, but I only attend concerts where all the musicians have the exact viewpoints of my own political and social identity.

Meh. Fuck the MAGA fascists and their enablers.

>>>I don't know about you, but I only attend concerts where all the musicians have the exact viewpoints of my own political and social identity.

It's just about where you draw the line. We all have a line. I mean I assume you wouldn't go see someone who was a proud Nazi, or who dated a 12 year old. The problem with the MAGA fascists of today is they aren't honest about their racism unlike the fascist of the past who were outspoken and proud racists. So they get to muddy the waters and gas light people about where they stand.

Lucky for me my line is the Frost and the people of Palo Alto who won't let them turn it up so I don't have to decide about Marcus this time.

> I only attend concerts where all the musicians have the exact viewpoints of my own political and social identity.

Sweet example of a reductio ad absurdum argument.

Choosing not to support a performer because of the performer's political stance is not the same as your all-in scenario, Tatters, but you probably knew this because you're better than that.

Big difference between holding a political position and working publicly for that position.

Big difference between voting Republican and singing at a Trump rally.

Big difference between...aw fuck it.

Cancelled (unhappy face)

Here's what was on FB:

<<Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Phil Lesh & Friends show on May 5, 2023 at Frost Amphitheater has been canceled. Tickets will be refunded automatically at the original point of purchase. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

We’re sad to miss you all in Palo Alto next month, but we will see you back in the Bay Area soon! >>

Just saw the same post on Instagram.

Wonder what's up?

Bummer.  Hope all well...

phil canceled marcus.

Maybe Marcus showed up to practice in a MAGA hat?

Or not enough tix sold??

> Maybe Marcus showed up to practice

Rehearsal for a P&F line-up? Good one, Nancy.

I'm thinking Marcus took a look at the lyrics for The Music Never Stopped, saw the line about a rainbow full of sound, and said, no dice, that's it, I'm outta here.

Rainbows  frighten the fascists

I saw Phil with Marcus and was not that impressed.  Not sure why he was chosen as a "friend" to begin with?

Who are Phil's friends for this weekend's Skull and Roses fest?

Thanks, Mike. Nice looking Friends.

It actually would not surprise me at all if Phil (...and Jill, it must always be said...) decided that they just didn’t want to do it with Marcus. Maybe they didn’t realize it before, but then they found out about his MAGA trip and they said, “Uh, no.”

We’ll know the answer soon enough: If another Phil date gets announced sometime soon with Marcus, then that wasn’t it. But if we never see Marcus on another Phil date, then that’s what happened.

If it were just about not playing with Marcus, couldn't they cut him from the band and replace him? I don't know how the contracts read.

Not sure, but like I said if we never see Marcus on another Phil date, then that’s at least part of what happened here.

I can’t imagine it’s because Phil is sick right now, or he wouldn’t be playing two days at Skull this weekend. So... unless he pulls out of Skull this week which would be BIG news, then it’s not that.

Low ticket sales almost never lead to a cancellation. The band gets paid either way, so the promoter usually just moves the show to a smaller venue (or papers the house hoping for some beer sales).

And it almost certainly isn't about any issue with the guitar player. Almost three weeks before the gig Phil would just replace him, with Stu or anyone; for better & worse there are many who have & could fill the role.

Unless there is something in a contract that says if the show goes on King gets paid no matter what. I don't know anything about contracts, but that doesn't sound likely.

This is odd. This seems like something else.

Can't help but be a little worried.

Marcus has MLK monogrammed on his guitar strap.  I thought he was the biggest douchebag when I saw that.  I don't care if that's his initials.  Pretty sure that one is taken. He's boring.

Well like I said, if Phil is sick, he’s not playing two shows this weekend at Skull. So THAT’s not it for canceling the Frost. It’s not like Phil is okay right now but then in two and a half weeks he knows he’s going to be sick. Unless he has a surgery scheduled, but again if so, how is he still doing Skull?

It honestly would not shock me if it’s Marcus.

Again we won’t know now. But if we never see Marcus on the bill again, that’s what happened. Time will tell.

am i missing something with the whole marcus king thing or do people think phil is actually gonna cancel a show with king just because king has a few future dates booked at some kind of kid rock related show?

honestly i dont know how you people keep up with which celebrity is in which political group and which celebrity has said a no-no thing. it must be tiring.

My guess is insufficient ticket sales. Frost is an expensive venue to play at.

My guess is insufficient ticket sales<<<

Sounds like even the faithful have had enough of the screeching calamity of Grahame Lesh.

It's a poorly timed show. getting to Frost on a Friday for a 6:00pm show is a major challenge, and IMO, Marcus King is not at all a draw. pretty much the same band with Goose dude sold out two at the Warfield.

Maybe it’s poor ticket sales, yes. I think Marcus contributed to that. Again, if we see Marcus on another Phil bill, okay. If we never see him on a Phil show again, there you have it.

How come Phil and Jorma don't play together anymore?  I bet those two could get a decent crowd to show up.

This might be overly simplistic, but Jorma is very sober-focused and has been for a long time (as is Jack) and he doesn’t seem to work with anyone who isn’t. I’m pretty sure that if you’re around Jorma — even on the crew — and you’re smoking or drinking, you’re out. Phil still smokes a ton of weed and still likes his wine or tequila every so often — last I saw at TXR anyway — and Jorma is definitely not on that ride.

Jorma is also a different style of music than the Dead.   He's not a great fit for jamming with others.  I saw him with Tedeschi  Trucks band and he was lost.  There is a reason he still plays with his friend from high school.

>>>honestly i dont know how you people keep up with which celebrity is in which political group and which celebrity has said a no-no thing.

I keep up with it mostly from reading posts here.

Trump ..”that’s quite a name … King”
Marcus "yes it is.”
“Your new wife is hot”
"Yes she is."
“My name has one more letter than yours does. “
"It’s a better name than King…" better than any name ever"
"Wanna play some rally’s with Kid Rock? You’ll go far. "

Jorma got a tribal tat...

plays a hella acoustic blues though .
