We still have about 65 inches of water left in the snowpack at Snowbird Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon waiting to come down.
Temps have been pretty moderate so flooding has not been too bad... yet.
So we got a TON of snow, over 900 inches, and temps are warming slowly and putting water in the Great Salt Lake. And you guys made fun of our governor for asking for prayers.....
Was in SLC a few weeks ago and water was pouring out of the street drains (think reverse flow). It was wild and couldn't take my eyes off it. Was there yesterday and plenty of snow still in the hills. Locals were talking about the potential to ski on July fourth which I guess happens every now and then. Let's hope it fills the lake a little and keeps that arsenic under water.
But back on subject, very cool article. Thanks for posting

We're in a similar situation, and have recently started to get warnings such as this one yesterday from the San Miguel County Sherriff:
We have received word from Colorado Parks and Wildlife that they have opened the head gate at the Miramonte Dam. This will temporarily raise the water levels in Naturita Creek and it is possible that driveways and low-lying properties along the creek could be impacted.
We are working to notify homes off of CR W35 that could be affected. Filled sandbags are available in limited quantities at the Norwood Town Hall. Additional sand and empty sandbags are available at the Placerville Firehouse at 410 Front Street. Please call dispatch at (970)-728-1911 if your home is impacted.
I'm headed to Moab area for the weekend, so keeping an eye on things!

prospecting is serious hard
prospecting is serious hard ass work. Some of the hardest, even with a good knowledge base and the best tools
prospecting in a stream or river, without a shovel or wash, is damn close to insane
anyone here ever dry sluice? run a rocker box? I'll bet that didn't last too long

Not many prospectors strike it rich, but the people selling shovels and dynamite sure do.
