Van Nuys/LA 6/9-611.... Anything good happening?

Forums:

Looks like I'm going to be in the Van Nuys/Los Angeles area during the above mentioned dates. Any recommendations for food, music,  activities is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I live close to there but Van Nuys itself is mostly a sorta light industrial and smaller commercial spot with plenty of residential hoods that is not exactly a hot spot, aside from a few small and good/authentic Vietnamese and Thai eateries, however, anywhere in the SFV is easily accesible from there. What sorta stuff do you like? NoHo Laemmle (art house) theater is good for Sundance-ish films, documentaries, etc and you can get beers on tap for the movies. Lots of bars and restaurants in that area too. Franklin Canyon & reservoir is a nice place to take a light hike and enjoy some natural surroundings in the Laurel Canyon area. There are a grip of smaller music venues that may or may not have anything going on as well. Burbank/Toluca Lake has some interesting old school Hollywood haunts and The Smokehouse serves up some solid dinners and has a great (full throttle!) Martini too. Enjoy! I'd be happy to connect and/or hang out and show you around but I am otherwise committed over that timeframe.

they make a lot of porn in van nuys

closest roscoe's is in Hollywood though

personally I'd prolly find a nice bag and just head out to palisades or topanga beach. YMMV

^"Fer Shur!" I regularly swim and bike ride by Palisades too and all of Van Nuys seems to reek of weed from the many, many grow and dispo centers in said light commercial spaces too. If you poke around there is clearly some really amazing weed to be had for that good call bag recommend from Bass as well. Something for everyone, just gotta poke around.

Used to go to Van Nuys in the early 80's to buy doses in a park there on the weekend. got some good stuff there. I think it was called Balboa Park.

i have not been to LA in many years, but one of the first things on my list of musical things to check if i ever head down that way is a venue called the baked potato. its well known for hosting bands that feature members of tool, and apparently they host all kinds of wild music.

looks like there will be jazz shows every night you are there. ernie watts quartet, ronnie foster trio and joe-less shoe.

TBH i have never heard of any of these groups, but if i couldnt find a show to go to from a band i already wanted to see, this is probably where i would be every single night.

it looks like you will be missing danny carey in a jazz lineup by only 10 days, on june 21st. unfortunate, but id guess the shows from the 6/9-6/11 will have something good to offer. maybe search youtube for those groups and see how they sound.

If you're into TV trivia and turtles, that's where they filmed the opening of the Andy Griffith Show.

Or drive a bit further west out to Bob Dylan's neighborhood at Point Dume. Malibu Seafood is on the way, and their cafe has reasonably priced food and picnic tables outside with great views of the ocean.

Thanks folks, keep'em coming.

Any recommendations for good authentic mexican food?

Good coffee and maybe a bakery in Sherman Oaks? Dispensary as well. Saw Ventura weed dispatch, but their website doesn't exist.

The Woods in West Hollywood has a consumption area - might be helpful for a visitor.

This is Woody Harrelson's place.  https://www.thewoodsweho.com/

I am not really a fan of weed stores in general but SkyClub/Winner's Circle is a great one. They don't have a huge selection but they carry some top shelf stuff (Canna Cup winners, etc) at very good prices.
