Big wheels keep on turnin... she was At the Stones concert in Zurich a few years back, didn't sit in but I was Happy to see her there, what's love got to do with it? RIP pkay so.e jerry band up there...
I saw her live in Fresno in the very early 70's. Ike and the boys came out and played an instrumental tune, then the lights went out. And then a soft whisper tina turner. and again tina turner and it gradually got louder Tina Turner and louder TINA TURNER until BAM! Lights blasted on and this Goddess flies out onto the stage and goes right into Proud Mary. Wow. She was unbelievable. The energy and presence was amazing. RIP.
She was truly a force of nature as a performer, and a great example of resilience and fortitude as a person.
I saw her a few times in the late '80s & '90s. She was pure electricity on stage and that power passed right into the crowd. Her shows were some of the most high energy events I've ever been involved with.
(A great Tina Turner memory, it was at one of her shows where I was called a bearded fucking mongrel. Best name I've ever been called)
RIP Tina Turner. I once told her that her mother must have mated with a scorpion. She took it as a compliment, which is how I meant it. I met her when my career was in a serious dip and hers had taken flight as the Lioness. We toasted her, wishing her success and asked how did it feel, and she said, “I’m just so happy to be done with Ike, nothing else matters.” And she offered advice to me, as my career floundered - she grabbed my very short hair and said, “Girlfriend, you need to get yourself a WIG!”
She also said when the photographers were clicking away so hard and fast you couldn’t make out anything but an audible blur, one photographer had said, “I’m so sorry.” Tina’s response was “Don’t worry, honey. My troubles start when this shit stops.”
Tina Turner was the whole package: beauty, brains, talent, grit, laughter, and love. She commanded whatever stage she was on. Thank you for all you gave. R.I.P.
I used to have a really sweet shirt, "We arm the World", featuring extremely well-armed Reagan, Putin, Kadhafi, Kissinger, and a large host of other cartoonish global terrorists holding hands in a half cicle
