Cananda fires

Forums:

They've affected the weather all the way down here in Jersey.

Grey skies and a strong smell of a fire burning. Never imagined it could happen so far from the source.

Watching the Yankees and you notice the smokey air quality

my girlfriend told me to kiss her where it stinks

so I took her to jersey

It's bad and over us today.  Supposed to be worse tomorrow, I can smell it.

A friend visiting Colorado was subjected to smoke from fires in Alberta. She's back here now and we've only had one fire this season, but it's early. Some years the smoke from California gets deposited in the Willamette Valley, most years it's from places having more like our latitude.

Sorry for you guys in the east.

Some forecasters are saying morning twilight will last until at least 9 am in NJ tomorrow. In Essex County, the light had a serious orange hue to it from 2 pm on today. The smell is as strong as being at a campsite with a roaring fire going.

That's 'cause they stink!

LOL Sorry, had to.

Thankfully there's still a few people around here with a sense of humor....

I'm sorry for you folks back there dealing with it, as you know, we know all about here

on the West Coast; we had so much rain that all the weeds/brush/etc are a mile high, so we

shall see how that plays out in September-November.

Hoping for the best for the East and the West..

Very strange looking sun and Martian atmosphere this morning. They are telling people to stay indoors and avoid breathing the outdoor air.

They say right now that NYC has the second worst  bad  air quality after New Delhi, India surprise

It;s gotten worse than this morning when there was some wind and you could, not really smell it. Now the odor is huge and the sky is very grey. They say tomorrow might be worse.

Egad. I had to stop some gardening work a few minutes ago because the smoke is thick enough that seeing the ground to dig holes has become tough to do. Can't see the tree tops either.

My son just sent me this picture taken from his office in mid-town Manhattan:

Having unfortunately becoming all too familiar with these conditions the last few years in the PNW, I would recommend taking it easy on too much physical activity that gets your cardio up.  Getting smoke particles in your lungs is hazardous.

Hope the conditions don't persist too long.  We've had a couple of 5-7 day stretches of these conditions.  It gets into your head.  Get a good book, watch some movies, play some music.

^^holy shit!!!  We are under friendly fire.

The right would like to mention that this is normal weather related phenomena, and that the silver lining is reduced global warming as the sun's radiation is greatly reduced by the smoke particles.

Winning!!!!!!!!

Didn't notice much Mon/Tue, except that the moon looked pink or orange at different points overnight.

Today, it's like being in a long shot from a Civil War movie.  Uphill from here, it looks the trees are in fog.  Or there's a house fire.

Smells like campfire.  Looks like rain.

What Dave said. Run filters in the house, even boz fans with furnace filters. The filter on the left was after a few days of running in the house during a smokey time here one year).

And, wear N95 masks if you're outside for any length of time - the particulates in the smoke are bad for your lungs - and you may be dealing with pollen in the air, too. Wear them in the house, too, if your house isn't airtight. Mine isn't, and I taped all of the windows and the doors not in use to keep the smoke out.

The smoke sucks. Take care. Good luck. And good luck Canada.

Still looks like blade runner out there
