It's so interesting how every dead head of every age has their own belief of when that was/is, spanning almost all eras of the band.
Of course I have my own opinion, but over time I've come to understand that all beliefs are valid.
And, just maybe, all are false???

Beginning of a great run of
Beginning of a great run of shows:
Tour moves to Greek Theatre, Alpine next, Dylan shows in July, Rocky Mountains in August starting w/ Red Rocks, Labor Day riot in Providence kicks off September.
Good looking show, and great recording, on 6/13. 2 10 song sets plus an encore, both over an hour, not including drums & space.
A lot of longer setlists and timings in '87.

from the perspective of someone who started listening after the whole thing was over, that point is very obviously brent's death. in the moment, at the time, i can see why folks might say the band started declining after pig left, after they played disco songs, after touch or whatever, but now when we can look back on the whole thing at once it seems pretty clear cut to me. 89-90 was one of the bands highest peaks imo.

Lots of really good/great
Lots of really good/great shows up through '92 with Hornsby and Vince. I believe Hornsby left before the summer '92 tour and to me that is when the performances really dropped off and never really picked back up. Sure there are some good shows those final three years, but they become fewer and further between. By '94 it was pretty apparent they might not turn things back around and they didn't
