Jerry Day 2023

Forums:

Stu and Melvin as usual, plus Box Set to open for a curious curve ball.

Should be another great day at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater. Looking forward to free music in the park. The history of this event is a good story.

curious to see who the live entertainment for the Giants game will be since Moonalice is in Alaska

Jerry Day is almost here, when it arrives it will bring good cheer!

Didn't know Box Set was still out there playing.

Box Set definitely stretches the degrees of separation thing. Loved their first album haven't listened to them in a while.

I'll be there at the Oakland Coliseum for this on 8/18.  Anyone else here going?

Always a mob scene and way too much early morning effort for late rising out-of-towners like me, but have fun kids.

>>>Anyone else here going?<<<

Fixed that for you.

A little A's bashing aside, that will probably be a fun event. I may well find myself there, if just to see a dishwasher play the national anthem.

Stu toured with Melvin before TXR exempting him from dishwasher duties

but he may have bussed a table or 2

although now, JK is touring with Melvin

 I'm confused

IMO Melvin's group was at its best when Stu was with him.

And I affectionately refer to all the regulars who played with Phil at TxR as dishwashers, in honor of all the expert opinions of those who were never there.

If you want to sound like Jerry there is no one better than JK. I remember the first few times I saw DSO and it was really freaky especially because I was standing in the Fillmore.

It was fun to bring people and just watch their reaction during the first Jerry ballad.

That said love Stu. One of the best out there.

Good Morning Zoners!

Happy Jerry Day

Good morn and happy Jerry Day!

Have a real good time, SF Zoners!

And, Tahoe Zoners + All Others:  Thx Christine.  Have a grateful Jerry Day too.

cool shirts

I would love to be there. I spoke with Mr Murphy a couple of days ago who confirmed there is no ADA parking. I explained that I am impaired & he said my best bet would be Uber but then I still would have to walk up that path.

My doctor, who I saw on Thursday told me that I was not allowed  to go.

I always had fun there. Bringing antique whiskey with Joel & sharing it with the crowd.

My Little Brother Steven went with me many years & the 1st year Wavy sold raffle tickets & I won 1st prize. A signed piece of Jerry Art.

I wonder how many white heads are in the crowd.

Today Jerry would be 81. Happy Birthday. If he was still alive & a mere mortal I wonder  if he could have made his way in.

Please enjoy every minute.

Crab, you've been to that event and far better many, many times.

As good as it may have been, you didn't miss anything....... they missed you.

Carry on with your bad self Crabneesh.

Hope all who made it today had a whoop.

I was there for a spell.

Wook central with beer, weed and dogs everywhere! Chill AF vibes, and FREE!

No complaints here! Happy Jerry Day Indeed!

"I wonder how many white heads are in the crowd."

Too many to count.

Also lots of kiddos not born in Jerry's lifetime, but they were there and they get it!

Crabneesh, what Lance said! Man, I could have used a shot of that antique whiskey!

They drove a little gardener's cart to the side of the stage to haul Melvin out after his set.

Stu was playing Alligator for much of the day.

The Zone's own Shakey Zimmerman (Pat Nevins) sat in with Mars Hotel for some good numbers.

The mayor made an appearance, courting the Dead Head vote, and declared August 5, 2023 Jerry Garcia Day in San Francisco.

>>>>>> I wonder how many white heads are in the crowd.

White haired folks were very well-represented at the Jorma show the other night. Kinda funny. But the devotion is cool.

It was the same in Seattle.  It was nice to feel like one of the younger members of the audience again.

Jerry Day was super fun.
Great event with with tons of community spirit.

JGB and Stu both were fantastic.

Several Zoners were encountered...

Lltd's embroidered jacket was very popular.

if you havent been- you should check it out.

Another great year at the JG Amphitheater! Box Set, Melvin and Stu Allen all played fantastic. The sun was blazing down on a great crowd. Nothing like free music in the park with friends.

^^^ thanks to Plf9905 for posting the above link which has LOTS of pics from the event, including many crowd shots...

... among them, a photo of Viva's own LLTD, front and center as usual, wearing an awesome embroidered jacket that Treeflo mentioned above

and I noted a couple other familiar faces among the crowd shots... looked like a fantastic time was had by all, on a stellar day at the JerryAmp

A beautiful day in the park.  Music was top notch.  TY Melvin / Stu and the rest.

crab, i could have gladly pushed you in a wheelchair

and being off-kilter / demented - i got up at 7 and arrived at 9:15 and  secured rail center plus bench space

I even put on my full nudie suit replica  of Jerry's 1972 Nudie half way through

WE ARE BLESSED
