Any James Casey Updates?

Forums:

I looked for the original thread, but couldn't find it.  Was so sad to hear James was diagnosed with Colon cancer. Last news didn't sound good. Back in the hospital I believe.

I don't know about any updates, but here's the original posts (TXR Vol. 2 ) with the gofundme link:

I’m heartbroken about the loss of our friend and bandmate James. My heart is with James’ mother and father, his beautiful wife Ayla, and with the rest of his amazing family.

James was a magnificent soul. His spirit and personality glowed. His playing was elegant, stormy, soulful and lyrical. He was a powerful and melodic improviser, and spot on when reading intricate charts. His tone was full and warm, his singing voice was beautiful. I loved harmonizing with James. His smile filled the room.

I’ll never forget the feeling of jousting with James on baritone sax and guitar. We would make eye contact and just go for it, diving into waves of sound together. Dark, scary, blues-filled jams. He was a force of nature. It felt like being in a tiny boat together in a huge storm in the middle of the ocean.

It’s impossible to describe the deep connection that James, Natalie, and Jen had as a horn section in TAB. It was a magical, once in a lifetime section. Deep bonds of musicianship and friendship.

James’s connection with Ayla was indescribable. She poured her complete soul into caring for James throughout every second of his battle with cancer. James talked about how much it meant to him. All of James’ friends and family will be forever grateful to Ayla. All of us in the band loved seeing the two of them together. You could feel the deep love they had for each other. My heart is with Ayla today. We love you Ayla.

We all especially loved the nights on tour when James’ incredible family would come to shows. I loved seeing them laughing together in catering, or at soundcheck. James was a kind, loving, talented, and caring person, and a beautiful friend. His family completed that picture. James will be missed by all of us who loved him.

James, you live in our hearts forever.

Peace to James.  Sooooooooooooooooo sad.  What a talent lost.  R I P

RIP James, thanks for the best Dear Prudence I saw in 32 years. It was tremendous. safe travels.

Too young. I enjoyed his music and stage presence. RIP.

40 years old is way toooo young, so sad!  RIP

In his own words;

Thanks, Noodler. That was beautiful and tough and even beyond his music, James Casey is going to be missed.

Damn. Life sure is funny.

In every way it sounds like Casey was a straight up good guy, and a fine player & singer too.

And so damn young, it just doesn't seem fair.

But then, think of all the magnificent souls who never get to do or experience what he was able to?

As I often would say after a long discussion with my wonderful cousin Lilly,  who was a nun, a teacher, a chaplain for the San Francisco Police Department and the coolist soul you'll ever meet, and who passed away just yesterday.... "Your boss got some SPLAININ' to do!!!"

Life sure is funny.

Lilly thought so too.

> Bluegrass licks on the sax

Sounds like some joyful noise in heaven

RIP James Casey.

This is so incredibly sad. Horrible for such a wonderful, giving person to be taken so early in life. I'm glad some Deadheads were able to experience James and his profound talents before his passing. I'm glad to have been able to be a part of the TAB experience with James for so many years prior to his joining Phil. When he first joined Phil, along with Natalie and Jennifer, I was so happy that they and Phil were able to join forces and create such memorable and joyous music together and that some Deadheads were able to see that light with them together!!  James made the world he touched a better place.

Sorry for your loss, Lance.  Your cousin Lily sound like one hip Sister.  May her light continue to shine on you and yours.

My oldest brother's oldest child, my niece Lily, just got engaged to her longtime boyfriend last week.  It seems like just yesterday she and her little sister were little rascal tykes playing pranks and creating family entertainment on a Sicilian vacation with my parents.  She and her sister, with their boyfriends in tow, joined my siblings and myself in Sweden last summer as we returned some of her grandfather's ashes to his homeland.  They had made the transformation into poised, intelligent young women with the world at their fingertips.  Their grandparents would be so proud of them.  We will celebrate them all at Lily & Andrew's wedding.

Life sure is funny...and beautiful.

Thank you James Casey for sharing your music, joy, and soulful sense of wonder with all of us.  Your life gives inspiration to so many.  Gone too soon, but not forgotten.

As Pharoah Sanders put it, the Creator has a master plan.

sorry Lance. sounds like she was a great woman.

I enjoyed James' presence and musical contributions during his short time on this rock

the twists and turns in this life sure are interesting

may he forever rest in peace

Rest In Peace

What an amazing musician and such a terrible loss.

Lance, your cousin Lily sounds lovely and exciting. I'm glad you had her.

Love.

My condolences, Lance ... this has been a sobering and heartbreaking week.

I have been experiencing so many dreams from those who have passed- My Mother for one, last night

I feel for Anne, Ayla- My heart goes out to you both

Chadwick Bozeman passed the  same day -please get yourself checked out early

Thanks folks. Didn't mean to hijack the thread, it's just that a couple of old workmates & friends passed last week, then my cousin yesterday and then reading about this young, talented man had me feeling low. The big D really seems to be going around lately.

And BTW Ro, I was thinking about you because in a different thread I recently posted what I consider to be a fabulous photo of you and another great zoner, also now passed. I was hoping you wouldn't mind. Let me know if you do, I'm sure it can be removed.
