Yup.....One of the many epic Quintet shows. A top 3 best of all time Q shows.....So it shall be written, so it shall have been done. And it was..... and documented by the thousands in attendance and the many reviews. This was a 4 show run that was pretty rare.
I was up front in like 10'th row but then again not a bad seat in the house.
Were you present at the Maritime Hall toilet bowl? Tell me a story.
I think the aim of the band was to "tear this old building down". ......It was condemned shortly after.
GARCIA WAS THERE IN SPIRIT AND KEPT THE BUILDING UPRIGHT AS HE WANTED TO KEEP HIS THRONE OF "TEARING DOWN A BUILDING" FROM HIS PERFORMANCE AT "THE CHANCE" CIRCA JUNE 1983. IT WAS SCARY.
I think this was one of the best Q runs i had witnessed. The Beacon was up there so say the "Tears of the clown". :)
So glad Phil is doing his birthday run at the Capitol and is bringing back the Q for what could be a final encore.
Long live P&F's & 4 ever the Q.

It's 2/17 today https://archive.org/details/PLQ2001-02-17.picklemic which was also a killer show at The Maritime.
2/18/01 was the best show I've seen post Jerry.
Also the best run of shows post Jerry each night was amazing.
Seeing Mule tonight in Oakland it's Max's first Warren experience he is psyched.

I missed the Thursday show of
I missed the Thursday show of this run because of work, but the other three nights are among the best shows I've ever seen, and Sunday night, the 18th, is easily the best show I've seen since Jerry passed. This is the Q at the top of their game. After an amazing fall tour, followed by their marathon performance on New Year's Eve at the Kaiser, the band was firing on all cylinders, with a turbo boost and after-burners blazing, and they knew it.
The hall itself had seen better days. KK's description of it as a toilet isn't too far off the mark, and this is especially true if you had to visit the restrooms by the end of the weekend. I could swear the "water" on the floor of the men's room was ankle deep by Sunday night, but maybe that was just the doses. And the structural integrity of the balcony got called into question by my crew a few times at least. Would it last the weekend, or come crashing down? And would it really matter if it did? Got raptured in San Francisco wouldn't be such a bad epitaph, I believe.
But the Maritime was not without its charms. As I recall, the walls behind and to one side of the band came up to a kind of rounded off quarter-dome, and Candace Brightman worked that space to great effect with her liquid light show. And the sound was pretty great too, with Dennis Leonard working the board, if I recall correctly.
This was also the run of shows that, for me, helped set the trajectory of my next couple of years, and seeing shows in places like the Greek in Berkeley, Red Rocks, and the Frost. It wasn't the second coming of the Dead, but it was close, and for a while there, it felt like our scene had barely missed a beat, and had a brilliant future to look forward to.
It was shortly after these shows that I first visited the Zone too, in search of recordings of the shows. Not only did I find audio here, but I also downloaded a couple of Real Audio videos from the run, which live today on my YouTube channel. (They say that Chet Helms recorded video of all the shows at the Maritime, but so far at least, high-quality video of these shows hasn't surfaced.)
Long live the Q.

I agree. Absolutely top 3 if not #1 of the Q shows, and I saw or listened to just about all of them. I also believe this lineup provided the best post Jerry Grateful Dead music that included at least one or more of the surviving members. And I've seen a boatload of other P&F lineups, Further, D&C, Billy and the Kids, and probably every different Bobby configuration. Hands down it was the Q. Can't wait till 3/4 & 3/6!

The place was elbow to elbow and from what i can remember a bit of a Sauna but they opened all the doors in the joint and we did have a breeze. For what ever reason the air cons were not working for that run.

What a year for Phil Lesh. From Denver in early February to the Kaiser on NYE, absolutely hearing a hole in the fabric of the universe. Many jaw dropping evenings.

I had sworn off GD spin-off
I had sworn off GD related shows for a few years after being mostly disappointed. Then a friend had an extra ticket and more less dragged me to the Feb 16 show. Phil and this band seemed to have The Mojo that I found lacking in the other spin-off bands. It brought me back into the fold and made me realize there was still magic happening. Needless to say I asked my friend if they had any more extras - and so I went back on the 18th. I vividly remember tears being shed during Dark Star and Wharf Rat. Sounds corny, but so very real. Never miss a Sunday show!
