A creative reinterpretation, I thought the original line-up was already pretty creative. But I've always been a sucker for Belew and Levin on the same stage.

pretty diverse, Carey will get the mainstream/Tool crowd, Vai will draw the VH guitar wizard crowd, the KC factor will get the prog guys, plus Belew and Levin both additionally draw off their extensive backgrounds, talking heads, PG, Bowie

Robert Fripp has lent his blessing to Adrian Belew's new outfit Beat, which has seen the former King Crimson vocalist and guitarist team up with Crimson and Peter Gabriel bassist Tony Levin, Tool drummer Danny Carey and guitarist Steve Vai to perform music from the three 1980s King Crimson albums Discipline, Beat and Three Of A Perfect Pair.

The internet has been buzzing over the last couple of days regarding a small, somewhat blurry image seemingly announcing the new venture, and which you can see below. Thus far, only one show has been announced, at Humphrey's Concerts By The Bay in San Diego on September 17. There has, at the time of writing, been nothing posted on the social media pages of any of the named protagonists.

However earlier this evening Robert Fripp posted on his Facebook page along with the Beat image, saying, "This is the project that Adrian Belew called me about last Autumn, a project which I support and fully encourage, and discussed with Steve Vai recently at McCabes in Santa Monica (3march2024). Even, I suggested the name."

The English Beat was originally called The Beat.  They changed the name for their U.S. releases because there was already a Power Pop band led by Paul Collins that was called The Beat.  This will only make it more confusing for the Millennials and Gen Y's and Zeds.

generally speaking Yes. It is outdoors on the harbor/water. you can listen as many do, from the water in a kayak/boat.

i find the sound to be hit or miss. usually not loud enough.

Wow looks like Albany Boston and NYC are all pretty much sold out 20 minutes in..,

The Blue Note Jazz Festival has announced their lineup, and surprise surprise, the semi-retired Bill Bruford is on the show-bill.  Since announcing his retirement in 2012, he's only made a few appearances (most recently, last Summer at John Wetton's memorial celebration), usually unannounced.  Adrian Belew asked Bill if he was interested in playing in a Rock & Roll band again, and Bill said something like "and stand around looking at the baggage carousel at the airport?", and politely declined Adrian's offer, while giving his blessing to the projekt, like Fripp.  How cool would it be if Bruford and Fripp sat in for a show or two?

Apparently Hunter got it wrong, and Dallas does not have a Soft Machine, as they aren't playing there.

As part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival, Bill Bruford will be at Sony Hall on 6/29 with a band called Progject.

Second piece of exciting news is that Bill Bruford will be momentarily coming out of retirement to open up (though not in the musical sense) for our last two shows of the June dates. I wish there was some way to convince him to sit it on a song or two, but Dr. Bill is officially retired from playing; and sticking (no pun intended) to his guns.

So, what’s Bill going to do onstage before us? He’s going to banter with music journalist/author/critic Anil Prasad about all things Bill, as well as take some questions from the audience.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a word with Bill Bruford–not only one of the world’s greatest drummers, an incredible composer and all-round musician, but one hell of a very smart, very interesting, and very nice guy! And if you want him to autograph his book, a record, a photo, etc…he’ll do that too (limit 3 per person).

Kind of weird that he is featured so prominently in the bill but won't be playing.  I read that (like David Gilmour) Bruford has sold off most of his gear.  It's a big festival, surely someone can loan him their kit.

That's the great thing about music Turtle, there's always someone who flew under the radar that you find out about, and it opens a whole new door. 

A lot of these shows are selling out and I speculate that a good number of these ticket sales are to Tool/Danny fans so it warms my heart to think of the exposure this great music is going to get to another fanbase. Not saying that Tool fans don't know KC just that it's not only KC fans buying em up. Same with Vai who has a pretty good following of his own

For now, this is just another exercise of nostalgia.  It will be interesting to see if this lineup can create any new music of it's own.
