Hornets!

Looks like I have a nest in an inconvenient spot, approximately 25ft up. Thinking of waiting until nightfall and try to spay it from that window.

Good plan.
Spray and then knock it down with a broom. Drop the broom if necessary to facilitate a quick window close.
Good luck and a big F U to things that put holes in one's skin!

I had an unbelievable experience many years back with a hornet's nest. I used to do container gardening along the side landscaping beds of my end unit townhouse and one day I noticed a lot of hornets buzzing around. Further exploration determined they were coming from the tree line between buildings in our community. The exterminator who ultimately removed it said it was the largest he had ever seen or heard about. Crazy. I will try and find the photos to post.

The upload feature isn't working right. I've load photos and images before. Not sure what the problem is but after I select my file and hit upload it won't allow me to insert. Sorry. If it works later I'll try again as the pictures are mind boggling.

Might need to re-size the photos.

Not for Bald-faced Hornets: however, for ground-nesting Yellowjackets - get some crushed dry ice. Go out at night and dump the dry ice into and onto the nest. The cold will freeze the wasps and the CO2, which is heavier than air, will seep down to the lowest levels of the nest and suffocate them. No chemical reside or residuals.

They make paper fake nest that you can hang up. Supposedly they will not build a nest close to another one

When I was you and we used to find big anthills, and we used to get Carbide that was for mining lanterns and place it on the anthills and -pour water on it. The gas it would give off would work its way into the anthill and then we would light it and blow up the anthill. it really didn't kill many ants but it was fun watching it blow up the hill from the inside.

Been unable to upload the photos. I'm not that technically savvy and can't seem to figure out what's wrong. Could it be my vpn? If not and any of you want me to send the photos directly to you and see if you can post them, I will. They're pretty remarkable in terms of the size of the nest.

chase those crazy
