Too hot!

My sister in Grass Valley isn't looking forward to her next week's temps, either.

Good luck. Run in the sprinklers!

I'm going camping so hoping it doesn't start burning. We have had a very nice two year break from the fires.

Mid to upper 90s expected here in Portland towards the end of the week.

At least we aren't getting an unprecedented Cat 4 hurricane in June like the folks in the West Indies are getting tonight.

We'll probably hit 100 at almost a mile high a couple days this week.

Gonna get to 110+ here most all week.  And the temp is always higher than they say.

Feels like temps are in the shade. Whoa!

I think we are safe from the triple digits this time around here in W. Or.

But it's only July first.

Maybe I spoke too soon. This morning's forecast shows 99 for Fri. and Sat.

Only getting up to 91 here in SWFL.

Anybody going to high Sierra? Wow it's gonna be a scorcher

Western Oregon is looking at upper 90's later this week thru the weekend, but the outlier Euro models have us up to 105, which I really hope doesn't verify...

106 here at 3 PM.

What elevation are you at, Mark?

94 high here today, and this will be the coolest day for the next week or so, with overnight lows only getting down to the low 70s.

1500 feet up Mt Konocti, Mike.

I'm at 4800, and will never get used to 100 degree days at this elevation. It just ain't right.

109 so far today.  WU says 113 on Sat.  That means 115 at least.

Ugh. It's over 100 at my house, and another week of this ahead, with overnight lows only getting down to the low 70s.

ugh.jpg

Hot in the Willamette Valley, too.

.smileyWe will be getting a three four day break from the oppressive heat from the hurricane.

Hot here too - baby .

Maxed out at 118 here today. Supposed to be the peak of the heat wave. 115 yesterday.

That is the hottest it's been since I moved here 7+ yrs ago.

The thing is this isn't even the new normal.  If humans had simply reset the earth's thermostat and the hotter temps were simply the new normal, then we would all just adapt.  Problem is atmospheric carbon dioxide level is at 420 ppm and still just going up.  Last time the carbon level was that high was 3 million years ago the eastern seaboard was 60 miles further inland.

As all the northern ice continues to melt away, in the not so distant future we will be wishing for temps like these today. It's a good thing that 90% of the world's ice is in Antarctica and somewhat protected by the antarctic circumpolar current. Gives us a little time to actually get our act together, but I don't see much serious movement by governments.

Maybe when the temps are another 5 to 7 degrees hotter governments will pay some attention to Mother Nature and not just continue to contort themselves over stupid self inflicted wounds. Will things like racism, xenophobia, and misogyny ever be left behind so we can focus on loving each other and saving ourselves?

Anchorage real estate must be getting pricier.

Rather live in Homer.

Friends who have lived in Alaska since the 70's saw their first hummingbird in their yard ever.

Vegas 119 ! hottest i have ever been in 117.

In Oregon, the Salem to Eugene area will likely tie (4) or break (5) the all time number of days above 100 in a row

Meanwhile, here are some records broken on Saturday...

update Vegas 120.

Noodler, maybe you can answer this for me. Why do they under report the temps?   WU predicted 106 here today. It got to 112.  Nowhere was the 118 reported the other day.   I have a digital weather station and an old fashioned mercury thermometer in the shade on my patio and both jive within 1 degree. It was 118 here. It was 112 today though they report 106? NWS is different than WU but still way under reported.  Is it to keep folks from freaking out??

* In the shade.

Hot in Portland.  About 102 right now and going up to 104 tomorrow so they say.  Been this way for days.

Don't have AC except for a portable unit with the tube you stick in the window.  Using that upstairs and it still got up to 87 and 90 downstairs.  HVAC at work is overworked too and office was about the same.

Cat and dog are being lazy

Mark,  the official sites are usually at airports, then there's the rural sites (different networks).  I doubt they lie to us, more just happens to be where you're at.  We're 5 miles north of our airport, and we're usually within a degree or 5, though sea breezes can brings us down in temps much quicker than the airport, due to where the pass in the coast range is.

Here's a link that includes some of the other networks;

107 at the bottom of the East Slopes of the Cascades in Central WA.

Had dinner with a Mexican gal who said this is a nice day to her.

Damn 120 degrees here would be like 160

Still holding in the lower 90's here but the constant heat is bringing rain storms almost daily. Usually the hotter the summer the more violent the storms, and the lightning, which is awesome imo

Getting tired of walking around with a wet towel on my head. Today supposed to be the last really hot one in this stretch of hot ones.

Just checked the coast weather. 65 max for the next week!

Thankfully, the temps will start to drop a little today, and more on Thursday.  My apartment is a third floor walk up with no AC, so I've had to basically wait until after 11 pm to go upstairs, strip down to my skivvies and collapse into bed in front of a fan, then get up early and get going before it gets too hot again.  This city isn't built for heatwaves.

I know some of you have had it worse.  Hope everyone is faring ok.  Mark D has posted some crazy high temps, Mike Edwards has been getting roasted, and all the Oregon Zoner family has been getting grillled.  Haven't seen a post from Judit or Llollo in a couple of days.  Hope you ladies are just passing the time somewhere cool, watching the Wimbledon action and making travel plans.  Looks like the Easties are about to get zapped with high temps and humidity.  Stay safe.

A very in shape friend in his 50's had to be rushed to the hospital for heat exhaustion after sitting in the shade for a couple of hours having few beers in a 108+ weather in his yard in the Sierra foothills. Stay safe.

Yes, it's been hot in Oregon. 105˚ yesterday? Today supposed to be 95˚, much easier. I do have cooling for the first year ever (mini-split ductless heat pump) - what a difference! And yes, Wimbledon.

Good wishes to all.

> a third floor walk up with no AC

> Mike Edwards has been getting roasted

Roasted, yes, but I do have an AC unit that's almost up to the task at least. What most houses don't have up here though is rain gutters.

68 here, very thankful. above 80 and i'm useless.
