I'm curious as to what
I'm curious as to what Dweezil Zappa is up to, it would be interesting to hear his band. But he did a Roxy & Elsewhere tour about 10 years ago, performing the entire album.
And Apostrophe' is probably Frank's most commercial album, I think I'll pass. You would need some pretty strong vocals to carry that album.
With all of the Frank Zappa and Mother's material available, why would you cover the same album on 2 different tours?
How about Joe's Garage? Chunga's Revenge? Live In New York? One Size Fits All?
I recently caught Banned From Utopia with Ray White, they were pretty good.

The time I saw Dweezil I was amazed at how small his band was but what a big sound that they put out. The horn players also doubled as singers and were fantastic, especially that high register stuff.

Good times with Dweez & Co. last night at the venerable Moore Theatre. There was no opening act, and the band came on at about ten 'til eight, and played about a two hour set with a couple of encores. While making nods to Apostrophe and Live At The Roxy by playing songs from both, neither album was played all the way through. Deeezil seemed enthused to be out on the road again. Apparently it had been a while.
He had a couple of new players in the band; Zach (didn't catch his last name) on second guitar, percussion, second drum kit, and lead vocals, and a guy who's name I totally missed on keyboards, vocals, and top hat. The drummer and bassist are both band veterans, and Sheila Gonzalez was there on horns, woodwinds, keyboards, toy instruments, vocals, and kazoo, a continuing presence with ZPZ since their first tour in 2006. Everyone participated in the vocals, even Dweez, who didn't sing much but other than between song banter, shut up and played his guitar.
He had the guitar that Frank played at The Roxy, and also played a couple of others. The band sounded great, with the expected high caliber of musical talent on display at Zappa shows, including some high moments of improvisation and musical theater. Several bits of popular songs from other bands were thrown in the mix. The Two Tickets To Paradise>Paradise City riff was pretty good, and Sheila led the band on kazoo through a satire of Pearl Jam's Evenflow that was fun.
Dweez said they'd been rehearsing for 110 days and it sounded like it. There were some pretty obscure selections; a tune from 200 Motels that Frank never performed live, and a medley of tunes from the Freak Out era that Frank arranged and performed in the early 70's that wound it's way to an excellent Trouble Every Day.
Dweezil's 54 now, which makes him older than Frank was when he clucked out. Wearing the MAGA-Red version of the Dweezil Zappa 2024 baseball hat (also available in black), he looked to be in good health and spirits, carrying forward the spirit of his dad's musical legacy. The band will be crisscrossing the U.S. for the next month. It's a good show and worth the trip.

Glad to hear Sheila Gonzalez is still with Dweezil, she is multi-talented and always added some 'fun' to the band.
Also happy to hear Dweezil is still hitting the mark, I may have to check this band out, thanks for the good review.

I saw the band play last week @ the Warfield.
I agree the Dweezil & the band are amazing.
I also agree that Sheila is so good & so much fun. I believe she played tenor & alto saxes, flute, keys, kazoo and sang.
I highly recommend. Even if you were not a follower of Frank the performance was stellar.

Saw Dweezil and his band last night. Was lamenting Adam Minkoff's departure from the group, but was happy to see him sit in for a few songs. As much as I like Minkoff, Zach Tabori is a phenomenal addition. He is incredibly talented and an excellent front man. Bobby Vinton on keys was no slouch either. Great new additions.
