Thinking about a family trio next year. Never been. Should have gone for the DNB shoes. Oh well.
We've never done a cruise and have no interest yet are thinking about it for this one. Part land part sea. Maybe, I don't know.
Would love to hear the places to not miss and the best experiences you have had. Right now Kenai Fjords is high on my list. Get mixed signals on the dog sledding.
I'd say we're mid active, we like to hike or para glide but not looking for a full adventure trek. We like having a warm shower and a bed and am not looking for a 8 hour work out. Couple hours here and there, some good food, see the sights. Likely my only trip there.
What say you zoners?

You def wouldn't like how I did it then, I paddled 1000 miles into Alaska on the Yukon River, started in Whitehorse and finished at the pipe line bridge above Fairbanks. Traveled down through Denali for a bit, looped back up via motor home over top of the world highway via Chicken to Dawson and then back to Whitehorse. Next trip we went down from Chicken to Haines(a favorite of mine) and over to Skagway and through White Pass back to Whitehorse that way. Beautiful country

I am not paddling 1000 miles.
I am not paddling 1000 miles. While I like Kyaking. I probably have an hour with my herniated disc before I need to stop and ice.
kxela - that's an interesting choice. Relatively affordable and something we will consider. Thank you. There was an uncruise too that we were looking at but I worry about being on a boat for three days with nothing to do but just look at the sea. i think I'd be cool with it but the fam will likely lose their shit after a day. It seems like a one way boat trip would just be a good experience to see that coast.

Beautiful country - HUGE.
Beautiful country - HUGE.
Lived up there when I was kid. Took a ship up and I barfed. Can't take cruises.
Try to make it up to Denali - I still call it McKinley. Portage Glacier is nice also.
Best fishing on the planet. I may go up again. Want to drive the Alcan.

From my post on the thread
From my post on the thread BSS linked. I absolutely love Alaska. By far the most beautiful state in the Union.
The AWCC is worth the visit and I believe on your way to Cooper Landing, which is also a great place to stay. I can't remember where we stayed there, but it was very nice. RR to Denali is a beautiful ride. Saw New Monsoon in Denali on 4th of July in, I think, 2006.
Might checkout Prince William Sound. We took a day cruise called the "21 Glacier Cruise"out of Whitier. I doubt very much that there are still 21 glaciers, but probably still a nice trip.
Gotta check out Homer itself. What personality that place has. Kayaking in Katchemak was awesome.
Not a fan of Anchorage. Plan on leaving as soon as you get there. Everywhere else in Alaska is better.
I love Alaska. I have been there thrice and can't wait to get back. Once mostly Kenai(fishing of course) w/ the Denali Trip thrown in. Once to Juneau mostly for fishing, but took the flight up to Skagway and took the train up to Whitepass. All about the gold rush days. Wow was that awesome. Third time was for DNB and we stayed mostly near to Alyeska and Girdwood.
Lots of good music fests up there too. Check a calendar.
Oh wow! I just remembered the best thing I ever did in Alaska. From someplace just north of Homer, maybe Anchor Point, we took a float plane over to Brooks falls. Holy shit the flight there and back was worth the money. Most beautiful views I have ever seen. But Brooks falls is where the Grizzlies hang out. If you have seen the iconic pic of a Grizzly snatching a salmon as the salmon tries to jump up over the short falls and go get laid, this is that place.
