Live Dead and Brothers

Forums:

Are they worth seeing?

yes. the band is cohesive.

too bad it's mostly at sit down places.

TC takes a piano solo in the middle of the show which is nice.

Yes I saw them in April very good. Worth checking out. This tour will be TCs final supposedly

I got a couple of tickets an hour drive away.  I'm looking forward to this.

Weird location. The Ross Perot Theater in Texarkana, Texas or Arkansas.

Hey they are playing a really nice outdoor venue Saturday September 28th, Pat Garrett Amphitheater:

The place is operated by a bunch of heads now, I remember going as a kid with my folks to see various country acts, the place was hopping back in the day. Think George Jones, look up the history!

Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and friends. Plenty of space, affordable beer, mellow security.

See you there?

^ I had to look that place up on the map. And I drive down 78 fairly frequently.  I notice Crystal Cave is only a half hour awy. if I didn't have a show the next afternoon I'd check it out. Central PA deadheads are pretty nice folks.

Never enough corpse humping!

Fitzman, I love how you never change,  Sure, it's a nostalgia act but a different one for sure.

They are playing Annapolis when I'm in DC for a few events but I'm flying solo. Never saw TC before so this is likely my only chance.   Setlists look interesting and I'm reliving some old 'Brothers' shows at the moment.   Hmmm, I'll have to think on this one.

Zang do it. As mentioned, the band is tight and the corpse humping vibe is minimal. I was skeptical when I saw them before but the band was professional and tasteful. And you will hear a real surviving member of the GD without having to go to Vegas! Plus, Les Dudek is no slouch when it comes to AB. Berry Duane Oakley was impressive, too. The other three know the Dead and AB catalogs inside and out.

Ram's Head is a very small sit down "dinner theater" type venue attached to an old tavern, more conducive to a Jorma solo show or jazz show, but still ok. It's been around for years. Shows usually sell out because it's such a small place. Since you share a four top table with other people, it is easy to meet people and folks are friendly. (When you buy tickets, try to avoid being stuck behind a column.) We always get seats against the back wall near the soundboard just so we can stand up and not obstruct anyone's view.

There is parking nearby and lots of other food places around. (Maryland is weed legal but no dispensaries in the immediate area.) It's an easy one road drive from DC -- maybe 45 min.

My wife just bought tickets yesterday for us and another couple, as it makes a good date night place. Will gladly buy you a beverage if you promise not to tell her about all the stupid stuff I post here.

Such an awesome lineup

have fun you guys

and anybody know why berry isn't playing in the other band anymore?

Thank you for the offer. Very kind.

Just realizing this is Saturday night and not Sunday night so I'll still have the whole family in tow (they leave Sunday morning) and that may be a harder pitch as I might be able to get one of them to go for a set but not the whole evening.  I might have a better chance of getting them to Cantler's and then just happen to meander this way for a set.  Not sure it's worth all that effort. I do love Cantler's though.

And the opportunity to showcase all your post is very tempting.  Truthfully I'd like to just sit and understand how you really get these sculptures so accurate.  That would be worth the price of admission.  I assume you do commissions?

Texas Kansas and Arkansas dates canceled dt illness

The shit, man. I'm having a bit of a time seeing old rockers these days.  Between Neil with Crazy Horse and this cancelation I'm a little frustrated. Big time bummer.

It's a conspiracy, Jaz. I blame Joe Biden.

I think ticket sales were lagging in the Texas Arkansas region. The Ross Perot Theater has sold just a few tickets and Biden of course.

Annapolis Sat night. TC looked rather frail (he's 80).

This band is very talented and worth it to check out if you want to hear some Allman Bros done well. They also put a little spin on the Dead stuff so it's not note for note, so it keeps it interesting. Strong rhythm section, blazing guitars, and mature voices so it doesn't sound like a teenage cover band.

My only "complaint" was with the dinnerclub style venue -- it's not really a sit down and listen type band -- they deserve a ballroom or dance hall. But I guess band management figures the paying audience is mostly in their 60s and 70's so ya gotta have plenty of chairs around.

Glad you enjoyed , Alan.

They are playing an outdoor show on Friday.  I'm still thinking about it.

Joe - if the weather is good, I'd check it out. I wish I'd seen them outdoors with a little room to move. You will probably tempted to shake your bones. The fact that have multiple vocalists keeps it interesting.

Jaz - sorry you missed your show.

I hear TC fell and is currently hospitalized, missed last night's show

No TC here in Canandaigua tonight

It's unfortunate he couldn't finish the tour but somewhat apropos his last Dead and Brothers show was a Woodstock set list recreation. That being a peak time in psychedelic culture and a noteworthy musical era in GD-dom, and he was part of it.

According to an internet interview he was doing ok health-wise two years ago at age 78. But he looked a little frail and out of it this past Sat night in Annapolis.

From that same "ask Tom anything" online interview: "What’s your favorite memory playing with Jerry?"

Iam_TomConstanten - "Once during a soundcheck we ran through the chords of St. Stephen, just him and me. We swung the pendulum extra wide, by that I mean we explored where the chords could go."
