Florida's "Great Outdoors Initiative"

Forums:

My sister texted me a story about how the Florida State Park system plans on developing Anastasia State Park, by adding a 350 room hotel, pickle ball courts, and other tourist development in a previously unspoiled wild area:

https://www.firstcoastnews.com/article/news/regional/florida/new-develop...

This is part of a broader program by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection called the "Great Outdoors Initiative," which seeks to convert previously undeveloped protected natural areas into tourist facilities.   I am a third generation Floridian and glad I got the hell out of dodge when I did, but one of the few things I still like about the state are the wild areas and I spend time in Anastasia State Park every time I go back there to see the folks and go to shows at the amphitheater. High time to send DeSantis and his cronies packing.

Seems brilliant. Do anything and everything to fight measures that could help with global climate change, then build billion dollar projects at or below sea level.

But hey, pickle ball...

They won't care until they're up to their ankles in seawater

Then they'll have to up and move to all the places they hate

fr though Florida does still have some exceptionally beautiful natural spaces left

lol, pickleball

The bastards. Wait til ya see what Utah does with America's Public Lands they want to take. https://vivalazone.org/other-stuff/utah-sues-feds-nations-public-lands

Are these state lands in Florida? Utah wants to take your federal lands.

Isn't that just what they do in Florida?

^^^^Pretty much, but you think they would have the common decency not to do it with the few areas that were specifically set aside so as not to be developed into hotels and pickleball courts.

This is outrageous!  They will destroy Anastasia State Park - f ing republicans

Just found this - maybe there is a little HOPE to be found:

Florida Senate President Kathleen Passidomo joined a growing chorus of lawmakers standing in opposition to a proposal put forth by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to develop state parks with golf courses and hotels, arguing it conflicts with the preservation of natural habitats.

In a social media post, Passidomo contended that state parks should focus on passive recreational activities and the peaceful enjoyment of nature, which the proposed developments do not align with.

The DEP's plan, which includes construction at nine state parks and includes hotels, golf courses, and pickle ball courts, has drawn public criticism for threatening the ecological integrity of protected lands. Moreover, some have accused the DEP of bypassing standard procedures, including stakeholder involvement, in advancing the proposal.

That and more are included in your snapshot of Florida's 24-hour news cycle in business, policy and politics.

This is sooooo fucked up.

Rick Scott is a vial human. I can make a book on his shit ass dealings for over 20 years and the brainless Republicans keep voting him in.

Scott tried this in 2011 and got shot down, now he hooked up with the lil dictator DeSantis and it still stinks to high heaven. Changing laws, cutting entrance fees by 50% and hiring Jack Nickolous son,  a world renowned golf course builder to run Florida's Game and Wildlife.

Oh look we took in 50% less $$$$ so we need to put golf courses, pickleball courts and Hotels to make more people come and buy entrance fees and us lil group of public servants will take a lil cut from the add ons...........

FUCK YOU

They canceled our meeting for public protest and said they withdrew their bid.....BUT they will try under a different name

?????? What The Fuck

Ever read the book "Tourist Season"by Carl Hiaasen? A group of radicals try to do some damage to the tourist industry in Florida by kidnapping tourists. Good writer, fairly light reading.

Seems like some folks in Europe are getting a bit tired of tourism. As are some of us in Utah who love our canyon country. One of the negative effects of the 2002 Olympics. Not to mention social media.

Video 2 and 3 is Jonnathan Dickinson State Park, This is my park, I literally grew up in that park. We camped out there 100's of nights. Home of the bamboo jungle. I had sex on the Hobe Mountain observation tower. I have seen 100's of sunrises on top of her.

My grandparents, my Mom, my brothers and sisters, and my kids all saw sunrises off of her. 4 fuckin generations and hopefully a 5th soon. It's a pretty special place.

That's where I grew up and if any of you think that the corrupt politicians that shit on us daily ( DeSantis, Scott, Mast) is going to do this on my watch, then you have another thing coming.

Fuck around fishermen and environmentalists

and find out

Initiative canceled due to overwhelming public outage.

Great news, Ken.

No "Great Outdoors Initiative,"no 500 foot communication towers in Bears Ears. Nice when people speak out and the pressure works.

Now if we can just stop Utah's effort to steal 18 million acres of federal lands in the canyon country. That would be sweet. Went to a party for the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance last night and found out staff members for three high-ranking members of Congress are on the ground visiting the area this week.

Investors backed out of the golf deal but the state has not. Need to keep up the fight.

DeSantis claims he knows nothing

>>>DeSantis claims he knows nothing<<<
