Utah Phillips used to run the Joe Hill House in Salt Lake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Phillips

I think his son Duncan is still around the area.

My buddy wrote one for the 100th anniversary commemoration (2015) of Joe Hill's execution called "They Shot a Hole In Freedom Down in Sugar House."

Think I'll go down and play it at the monument today.

Happy Labor Day to all.

Thanks to all that got us what we take for granted now days.

Thanks so much for the post, Trailhead. I look forward to checking out Anne Feeney a bit more. Inspiring.

We used to sing "Have You Been To Jail For Justice?" at the Tim DeChristopher rallies. Never knew it's origin.

Yeh, that's good stuff Trailhead. Never heard of her before. We all owe a lot to her and those brave enough to be her  contemporaries.   True grit.

Thanks, Trailhead.

She makes me think of Holly Near. Couldn't be in better company. Some remarkable people.

She was an inspiration to all of us at the Kerrville folk festival and beyond.

I get claustrophobic just watching the opening scene.   Visited a coal mine in western Pensylvania when I was a kid.  A whole nother world from were I grew up.

Anyone know if the coal miners ever got the right to strike over local issues?

Thinking about Anne Feeney tonight.
Here is a tribute video likely made during Covid lockdown.
See how many peeps you recognize !
