B Chord Brewing Co. gets all the shows.  I bet it was a blast.

Singing drummers are impressive, especially when they remember all the words to Dylan tunes while drumming.

I don't know if you've been to this part of the country recently, but it used to be rural Civil War monument backcountry-ville, even though it is just 30/40 miles west of Washington DC.  Now it's not too far from Dulles airport and the suburbs are encroaching, but this one road is peppered with breweries and wineries and B&Bs. BChord is one of them. It's on 60 plus acres that has a nice hillside, so the guy (who is affiliated with DelFet video production), built a nice little outdoor stage at the bottom of the "amphitheater." Because crowds are small (attendance is limited because of Covid), the place has a real laid back vibe. No overnight camping but you can access your car, which is nice and civilized. The only drawback is the dark drive home on a road with potentially a lot of drunks, so it's probably advisable to get a room in Leesburg or Winchester or some other nearby town. Looking forward to the Leftover Salmon shows there in July.

I got to see Oteil with a slightly different Memorial Day weekend lineup on 5/29 & 5/30 for 2 Tree of Life Benefits.  It was great to see Oteil first in a small backyard event in NJ on 5/29 and then at the first show to open up Garcia's at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester after being shut down all that time.

5/29:

Oteil tour starts tonight in Seattle:

I am a little bummed that the nearest show is 10+ hrs from me, but still I'm excited for all the music I'll hear from these shows.

Mark my words. Mark 'em down good and sure.

This tour is gonna be HOT!!

Damn the dates never work out for me. I would so like to go to see him and actually be able to hear him in the mix.

another artist who thinks the cap is sufficient to cover upstate NY

Going to see Oteil & Friends Saturday up at the Hoodoo ski area in the Central Cascades.  He is playing with Margo Price.

Good choice ^^^

This particular Oteil & Friends lineup is an insanely capable band.

I am hoping for a spring tour more in the St. Louis, Louisville, Evansville, Athens, Atlanta part of the country.

i want to see the show here w/ kimmock but tix are like $130?!

c'mon man....

^^^^ Wow I didn't even check prices since the tour is geographically prohibitive for me.

Tix were about $80 I think fees and all for Memphis last April.

I clicked around a little on the Oteil tix links.

Tix for a few of those shows are pre-loaded to purchase a pair, but I was able to select one ticket on the dropdown menu, for a couple of shows, for like 45-60 bucks before fees.

I don't know if pre-loaded pairs are the norm now.

Of course it's trying to become a norm for the sellers. They want people to be careless and not catch it at first, and when they buy two tickets by accident, it's too late and they'll say, "Well shit, guess I'll find someone else to go or sell it." The sellers love it, they just want to dump more tickets. It's not their fault if some people are too stupid to notice.

Is there any such thing as streams to these O & Fs shows?

I heard a stream from New Orleans a few yrs back and it was one of the best shows I heard all yr. So, I went to see them locally and they disappointed to say the least. Seems he changes bandmates like Phil does, so it is hit or miss.

Heard from a friend that last night's show in Seattle rocked.

Portland is sold out, not going.

Beware of dogs.

I got a chance to chat for a bit with Tom Guarna, who plays guitar with Oteil, when he came down to my shop early in the afternoon of the Thursday show at the Neptune.  Super nice dude.  We talked a little about.  Col. Bruce Hampton, Taz Niederauer, and  Jazz radio in New York and Seattle.

Though I get a free pass to the shows here, I ended up skipping it, in lieu of running some errands.   I didn't see how much tickets were, but the crowd looked mostly north of 60, and kind of reminded me of the pictures I saw of The Sphere crowds, a little more on the affluent side.

Tomorrow I'll be seeing Oteil & Friends in Humboldt at Cannifest 2024, an outdoor event at Eureka's Halvorsen Waterfront Park. There's several other lesser bands playing during the day before Oteil hits the stage, but I'm mainly attending just to see the headliner with Melvin, the 2 Kimocks, Jason Crosby, et al. Total cost (with fees) is $71 for a single-day ticket, but there's lots of other stuff going on such as vendors, dispensaries, displays, workshops, speakers, vendors, Grow Games, and everything Cannabis you can imagine. Lettuce is headlining the musical lineup tonight, but I'm skipping that. BTW, only service dogs are allowed. smiley

Wow, I'd go but 7-hour drive each way for 1-day event.  Crazy.

One of my favorites from this band right here:

The same band, I think, as the current tour, except for Duane Betts.

Anybody know if they're doing two sets on this tour?

>>>>Anybody know if they're doing two sets on this tour?

They did one long set at Hoodoo but that show was a little different as Oteil was co-headlining with Margo Price and both acts got one long set.   Oteil is definitely NOT another GD tribute band.  In fact, he played just one (count em) Grateful Dead tune - FOTD - and was a total mash up with Nirvana's Lithium.  Pretty wild.   Kimock was sort of subdued and took a back seat to Tom Guarna for most of the show, but they did get into some double guitar leads on Liz Reed.  Melvin was featured prominently on some tunes which was good because he was sort of subdued himself when I saw them last.  Lamar Williams was also a nice addition.  Dude can sing.

Margo and her band were also really good.   More rocking than when I had seen her before and she was really tapping into her inner Stevie Nicks.  Thought she was going to start spinning around on stage and get taken by the wind.

I love so much about this band. For one thing, or two things, or two halves of a thing, it's like you can hear every person in the band at all times.

And no member has a presence that takes over everything.

heard sd was great

no melvin in la

I saw the SD and LA shows, first with and then without Melvin, and both were worth the drive (high praise).

Tomorrow streams free for nugs subscribers.

Any reports on The Bellwether venue in LA? It looks pretty cool from photos I've seen, with not too much LA foo-foo.

Another Planet put that place together and they're booking it, and they always do a good job.

They're building a venue in Sacramento that seems very similar.

Thanks for pointing out those streams Zooey!

The two nights in Ardmore just might work out for me.

will check out the Beserkley show tonite...

Psyched for the show tonight!

No Melvin=

lots of strings...

Kimock was sort of subdued ...

LOL.  Imagine that.

I enjoyed the show, but it definitely would have had more oomph with Melvin on B-2. Tom Guarna is a helluva guitar player. I thought Every Hungry Woman was the highlight of the show. Kimock stepped up on that. He also did a nice slide solo on Stella Blue.

B3 LOL
