where's that unreleased June
where's that unreleased June 68 from the Carousel?
love to hear that
"Grateful Dead, Carousel Ballroom, June 1 or June 8, 1968: This very special set of three mystery reels was preserved thanks to the generous contributions of Adopt-A-Reel patrons: Dean Budnick, Aaron Barksdale, and the Minnesota White Lightning Alliance, each of whom took a gamble in sponsoring the unknown! As with so many of the remaining mystery reels, we had no way of knowing what was on these tapes until they were preserved. In this case, it yielded a pretty amazing discovery!
After some research and consultation, we are not aware of any indication that these tapes have circulated. No setlists appear on Dead.net, Deadbase, Jerrybase, Lost Live Dead, or Grateful Dead Guide. The tape boxes indicate only that it's a Dead show recorded on a "Saturday Nite." One of the tape boxes, labeled by Bear after-the-fact, indicates that it might be "'68?" and "possibly the Carousel."'

1. Unidentified Jam (approx. 6 minutes)
2. Dark Star (approx. 12.5 minutes) >
3. China Cat Sunflower (approx. 3.5 minutes) >
4. The Eleven (approx. 13.5 minutes) >
5. Born Cross-Eyed (2.5 minutes) (end of the first set and only known time they closed a set with this song; it's also the last known version of this song and the only known version to come out of "The Eleven" -- as Jesse puts it, "a fascinating alternate draft in the band's relentless '68 suite-building.” It’s hard to call this a segue exactly, as the band completely stops playing after "The Eleven" but there is the slightest thread of feedback, just a whiff, that carries them to the downbeat of "Born Cross-Eyed")
6. Cryptical Envelopment >
7. The Other One>
8. Cryptical Envelopment (the suite is approx. 13.5 minutes)
9. Alligator>Feedback (a whopping 55.5 minutes!!!!) (this track takes up about a reel and a half and includes riffs on "First There is a Mountain." It is sublime.)
((Sorry for changing thread topic))

^ WALSTIB -- Some people are saying... John Mayer Industriies lawyers are actively preventing GD releases from the deep psychedelic era from being issued and his henchmen even took down the Internet Archive to strategically erase the historical record. The years 66 - 69 are being targeted. No dark and spooky Grateful Dead music allowed. "If it can't be paired with a happy, smiling Dancing Bear visual, we don't want it around."
A slow and steady attempt to remove all traces of primal Dead that 1) could be compared to his "nice" easy-listening DeadCo repertoire and 2) weren't suitable for eventual sale and use in a commercial.

There is so much primal 69 GD
There is so much primal 69 GD (soundboards) out there, nobody is gonna b able to remove it.
Wish there was more 65 & 66 & 67 & 68 but happy 4 what there is.
As for the latest fake Jerry or all of the others that have tried to replace Jerry, there is no way they can whitewash,
eliminate or have any effect on primal dead.
Besides who gives a flying fuck what cover band musicians say, play
or do?

1968 is my favorite year for Grateful Dead and I just always thought that archive would be around with all those wonderful 1968 shows. I spent about three years just listening to all those recordings and trying to find the gems. Quality varied alot, but a bunch of those 1968 shows were great quality and all were just simply mindbending. I know the setlists didn't vary a ton as they were just building their repertoire, but every show was completely different. Those recordings crackled with a unique energy that bound be. I'm am so sad as I hadn't heard anything about Archive being messed with, so I went to check just now. Haven't been there in awhile and it is all gone. Even 1969 which just had a ton of shows is now just a trickle. But 1968 was the year they really developed that Grateful Dead sound and to be able to listen to that stuff was a chunk of my reality. I am so sad.

Thank you so much for that
Thank you so much for that link. I hadn't been to the site in awhile and put 1968 in the 'Filter' and only 5 or 6 shows came up. I'm thrilled the shows are all still there. A little ray of light for me on this sad day of Phil's passing.
