I thought I might need to miss these shows due to job demands around the election, but just got approved to work from Cali next week! I had always planned to go to the Zero shows in Petaluma the following weekend.
So, pls keep me in mind if you have any extras to get rid of for either weekend.
Got lodging figured out in Redway, also looking for an inexpensive or free place with strong wifi for the workweek ahead.
Yay, Zoners are rallying for this one!
Surfdead, happy to give you a ride south in exchange for a tank of gas but returning is the issue...wondering if other Oregon fans might be able to help?
Would like to leave Thursday eve but more likely sunrise Friday.
I went to the Andy Coe Band's show at the Blue Moon Tavern just down the street last night, where the place was packed, and the band played an excellent and very jammed out show:
1st Set
Unbroken Chain
Box Of Rain
Bertha
Birdsong
Broken Arrow
Ride Mighty High
2nd Set
Eyes Of The World
Mission In The Rain
Hell In A Bucket
The Maker
Althea
Encore: GDTRFB
*Organist Joe Doria sat in for everything after UBC and Box
I'll be there for Dinner on Saturday. Driving both ways.
Nellie injured her hip. She's getting better but her days with the doggie door are probably over and I have to let her in and out from now on. Major adjustment on both our parts. She is getting up there.
Hoping Smokey's transition is as smooth as can be, BSS. Family is family.
Peak and I have decided to join y'all for the DNB Humbolt hangout. It might be cold, but we are staying in a really cool tree house only a few minutes walk to the venue.
Being in a steamy room full of tried and true zoners seems like the best medicine right now. Love yas.
(peace and comfort to the doggies... our best buddies)
A great 2-show DNB run in Humboldt this weekend! Setlists below.
Freaks gathered from near and far to connect and join in a time of healing and love following Phil's passing just a week prior. Doobiedaddy flew in from from Ohio, Hammer from Mississippi, a guy I met from Pennsylvania, Steph & Joe from Seattle, Llollo from Portland, Turtle from SoCal, and others made a long-distance pilgrimage to be with the DNB ohana during this time of retrospection and celebration of life, music and camaraderie.
David was in fine form both nights, showing flashes of his old fire on the guitar, and his vocals were very strong throughout. Sless slayed, Mookie raged, the double drummers grooved, and Pete Sears is a national treasure! Setlists were stellar... Friday night kicked off with a Box of Rain opener in homage to Phil, and included two other rain songs in the first set, which was particularly appropriate since most of us drove through a torrential rainstorm on our way to Redway. Close to the end of the 2nd set, there was a brief Penumbra jam in the segue from Mystic > Wizard's Son that just teased at the potential of that rarely played song. By Saturday, the rainstorm had passed and we were blessed with sunny skies and freshly cleansed air. Following a kickass Dead Flowers opener, the band busted out Pride of Cucamonga that raised excitement levels to the roof! Other first-set highlights were Road to Armageddon > Edge of the Wire, Tear-Stained Letter, and a rave-up Wicked Messenger before the intermission. Energy levels remained high for the 2nd set, beginning with a classic 451 and ending with an upbeat Kick in the Head. Ripple was the encore. Let there be songs to fill the air...
