“Boots on the ground”

Forums:

and other dumb sayings

Easily one of the most annoying things you'd hear in a military environment

this is combat arms-speak for establishing force in an expeditionary fashion

even more ridiculous sounding now that civilians of all stripes have latched on to it

newscasters, podcasters, corporate geeks, government bureaucrats...

it's so awkward

> it's so awkward

And only surpassed in awkwardness by boot up your ass, I suppose.

when the rubber hits the road

"To your point.."

Don't get me started on the ridiculous corporate jargon we have to sit and listen to... my ears skin over when we start talking about helicopter views or circling back to get down in the weeds to facilitate processes. Nothing says hey look at how smart I am like a soulless know it all who thinks I'm impressed by their knowledge of meaningless phrases. I asked once for a meeting to discuss the effectiveness of having these meetings. I was told that was low hanging fruit and if I had the bandwidth I could lead a committee, but we could take it offline to further discuss but it was unlikely to move the needle

In school, "verb" is an action.

In CorpWorld, "action" is a verb.

Sounds like it's time to roll your sleeves up, Fish.

Assholes and elbows

The proof is in the pudding.

Win the day

Drones in the air

could be the modern equivalent of boots on the ground

Asses and elbows is what we said back in my Maine Blueberry harvest career about what it looked like on the field if people were making money because those berries are growing just a few inches from the ground like a carpet.

"surface streets"

Have you ever driven on a street that didn't have surface?

"WON'T GO BACK!!!"

oh......

It's not a saying, but the overuse of curate in its various forms has been grating on me lately. Kind of like love language did for a while there. So cringe.

I have a slight issue with people who consistently start a sentence with the words ,  basically or actually.

The only saying that bothers me consistently has been,  I need to see your license and registration.
