>>>All orders must be sent in a #10 sized business envelope.
The degree of difficulty went up for the 1990 Nassau shows where they only allowed people from the immediate area to order tickets. All the people I knew in the area were already maxed out on their orders so I needed to find someone to order for me in the area. My very non dead head coworker had a brother who lived on Long Island. I remember being told he was a Merchant Marine ship captain. So we had to put the whole package together for him and then Fed Ex'd to him with implicit instructions on when to mail enclosed envelope. We also had to include a prepaid Fed Ex envelope to mail us the tickets once he got them. Can't believe it all worked out without one email or text message sent. And we got those shows.
Haha there was one postal clerk in particular who would'nt stamp it in front of me specifically because I asked him to once...He said they got stamped and I shouldn't worry about it. And he was on staff EVERY time I took my envelopes in. I had to ask for a supervisor if got him as there was only one line
Crazy, I still remember getting in line and seeing that guy up there and then counting the people in front of me, dreading that I was gonna end up getting Mail Nazi again...I think he took great joy in being difficult
Ha, the postman was THE GUY... the delivery mailman for the GD office address was a taper. He would "shuffle the deck" so certainenvelopes were on the top of the delivery deck
The scam worked for years before somebody on the inside caught on to it. That coupled with knowing Willie the security guy who handled the "priority entrance tickets" ensured front of the taper section position or first entry for a GA advantage. A bottle of whiskey went a long way with Willie.
Post office would sometimes get a little weird when you waited in line to make sure the postmark was applied for that specific day>>
Remember they had to change the message ""We do not go by the AM or PM postmark"" ? That rumor was pretty strong in the Northeast.
I routinely would get really good seats from the office, maybe ordering only one ticket helped. Friends would role there eyes when I let them know time after time, year after year.
Never got shut out with mail order that I remember. The hardest ticket I probably went for was Greek 88. Might have helped that I have the handwriting of a 5 year old. Never did the art thing or had any connections.
I do remember the post office person saying once - why is everyone asking for a hand post mark today.
in a strange way i cant quite describe, listening to these messages gives me a much stronger feeling of nostalgia for a time i never experienced than listening to the actual music or going to actual shows does. maybe its because i have so many meaningful, current memories associated with the music and being at a show while this is just purely a relic.
a friend(her last name was Allen) mail ordered singles for the whole '89 fall tour
I think her name being early in the alphabet helped
she got them all. Each seat got better as the tour went along culminating in a front row seat in front of Jerry(epic Miami Darkstar) Thank you Calico!!!
her life changed after receiving the tix so I ended up with all of them.
Alas the tour book did not include the unannounced Warlock shows in Hampton

Fish - I had the same issue with the guy at the airport post office. A real turd- every time I asked him to postmark it he'd give me flack.
Like it was a real hassle for him to pick up the stamp right there at the counter.
