Bye Bye Broomy

Forums:

It was the Broomfield Event Center for Phil's first show there. After that, it became the First Bank Center. I thought it was an awesome venue but for some reason they couldn't make it work.

RIP.

damn. that video of the place being torn down REALLY hurts to see. i had some great times in that place and saw one of the absolute best shows ive ever seen at 1st bank. although i kinda get it, the whole area around it was WEIRD. obviously brand new construction, and also an obviously failed attempt at creating an upscale suburban area. it was like a ghost town, but everything was brand new and all the shops were open - just no residents, or really anyone else besides the show-goers. the  A-loft hotel next door was also extremely welcoming to jam-banders and regularly allowed their entire hotel to be overtaken by wooks and turned into an all night party. ive never seen anything like it really. like 4am and people are still raging in the lobby and smoking bongs in the snow outside. WTF? i always wondered what it would be like for some rando who is just visiting family in broomfield and unknowingly got an A-loft room during a jam band run.

here's my favorite 1st bank show and my favorite JRAD show of all time(MMW open/guest), all pro-shot/sbd audio - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvMwumK0qwYJ

i think MMW's presence at this show pushed them to make a huge stylistic tributes to NYC free jazz and the whole show was absolutely balls out insane. jrad played for about 4 hours not including setbreaks, which IME is rare for GD sets these days. The Morfbeats>Space>Dark Star>Half Step that opens the second set is incredible.

Local arena being demo'd.

Allman Brothers with Betts/Trucks about two weeks before the fax.  Phil did the smaller hall not long before covid.

That 4/29/17 JRAD show. was epic.. that was the one thaf was originally booked for Red Rocks.... it got moved to Broomfield due to a snow dump the night prior!

String Cheese Incident had some great New Years runs there. P&F, Furthur, DeadCo, Jrad, Billy Strings.

It was fun while it lasted.

^ yeah, saw all of the above there many times (except William Apostol).   It was one of my favorite indoor venues in CO.

Demo moving along now ... fare ye well, Broomy.

Another shout out for that 4/29/17 JRAD show, after reading this thread I put it on and man, that's really really something.

I remember a number of years back there were some Phil shows with Jackie Greene Scofield (i think) and folks were calling the band the "Broomfield 6" because the shows were so great.

A shame that a building that's not 20 years old would need so many repairs and upgrades. They don't build them like they used to...

some Phil Shows with Jackie Greene Scofield <<<

I was so psyched to hear them play Magic Bus the way they did.  It was the first time I've come across a version of a Who song that you could dance to like a GD song:

Fck that place. One of the first venues that I ran across that would actively surveil the crowd with cameras inside the building and send cops to bust people during the show. We had to bail out a buddy caught sharing something with a friend. Granted in retrospect he was not completely discrete, but he wasn't blatant either. Not a monetary transaction.

Now they have AI powered surveillance and facial recognition.

^ You're not wrong Alan about security inside the venue and Broomy law enforcement outside. They ran similar sting operations on the shakedowns by having cops observe from above at the nearby parking structure and call out to agents in the field.

I know of someone who got busted on the latter count and have seen the way the security quickly mobilized inside to go after attendees, but never had any issues myself.

^ There's nothing like leaving an out-of-town venue well-oiled and finding out that your buddy (a friggin straight looking doctor for crise-sakes) got busted during the show (String Cheese 2011) and you have to deal with reality -- fast.  Luckily it was Colorado and everyone has a friend wih a safe full of cash for bail money.

Thought this was a thread about Lebron James' nepo-son, Bronny, going to the G-League.

my 'lil bronny?

from one of those freedom loving States:

A Colorado school district is using facial recognition technology to police vaping in bathrooms.

As the Denver Post reports, the Cheyenne Mountain School District in Colorado Springs already boasts a network of 400 AI-powered facial recognition cameras scattered throughout its school buildings. The school district argues they ensure school safety and facilitate responses to emergency situations. Critics, however, argue that spending district money to put kids under sci-fi-esque surveillance comes with a slew of practical and ethical concerns.

According to the report, the company behind the facial recognition cameras has also installed smart air sensors, designed to detect whether a kid is vaping or smoking weed.
