Pacific Palisades is going up in smoke:

Dave, what does City of Lights mean as the subject of the thread? I sometimes don't understand...

This is another terribly frightening situation for people there, their friends and families. I hope for their safety.

The Doors

Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
Where the little girls in their Hollywood bungalows
Are you a lucky little lady in the city of light
Or just another lost angel, city of night
City of night, city of night, city of night, woo, come on

L.A. woman, L.A. woman
L.A. woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. woman Sunday afternoon
Drive through your suburbs
Into your blues, into your blues, yeah
Into your blue-blue blues
Into your blues, oh, yeah

I see your hair is burnin'
Hills are filled with fire
If they say I never loved you
You know they are a liar
Drivin' down your freeways
Midnight alleys roam
Cops in cars, the topless bars
Never saw a woman
So alone, so alone
So alone, so alone

Motel money murder madness
Let's change the mood from glad to sadness

Mister mojo risin', mister mojo risin'
Mister mojo risin', mister mojo risin'
Got to keep on risin'
Mister mojo risin', mister mojo risin'
Mojo risin', gotta mojo risin'
Mister mojo risin', gotta keep on risin'
Risin', risin'
Gone risin', risin'
I'm gone risin', risin'
I gotta risin', risin'
Well, risin', risin'
I gotta, wooo, yeah, risin'
Woah, ohh yeah

Thanks, dear Zooey. You are able to connect the dots so often, and are generous with the information.

As someone who grew up in Laurel Canyon, in the hills of Hollywood and didn't listen to the Doors, it was a real disconnect for me.

We lived with/through the fires, so scary.

Bands that like to do covers often play the Doors when they are in LA... guess it's the most common LA identity for many.

I'm surprised you weren't a fan when you could have actually seen them!

No fire near enough to me to be a threat, but it is windy AF.

>>> guess it's the most common LA identity for many. <<<  How 'bout Arlo Guthrie flying into Los Angeleees?

I heard the Doors rehearsing a couple of times as I walked in L.A. (on Sunset, and in Venice) but their sound didn't get me.

I'm glad you don't have fire threatening you. Those winds...

It looks like there are more fires in California. My cousin's wife had to evacuate her 90-something year old mom and caregiver from the assisted living place she lives in Pasadena. Hot winds, dry land.

Are we going to hear again about raking the forests? Arghhh.

I blame the liberals.

Three major fires now

The wind was howling and rattling everything all night

I'm nowhere near any of the fires, but SoCal Edison is saying they might shut off our electricity as a precaution because of the winds.

Same here

Watching and reading of the explosion of fire last night That's some seriously scary shit out there

Sending huge vibes out west, huge vibes

evacuating nursing homes for gods sakes

A tale of two states. It has been a really strange winter in CA. Nor-Cal is having an above average wet winter while So-Cal is in an historic dry winter.

bone dry.

winds calm here now  and only got into the low 30's last night. we aren't as impacted by the winds where i live but there are tons of dry hills right behind.

the palisades deal is crazy...I mean santa monica is under threat...gnarly.

friend's 90+ yr old mom evacuated in pasadena area.

rain not in forecast for at least 2 weeks?

Y'all stay safe down there.

You know it's dry when Death Valley has had more rain this year than most places in Southern California.

Born/raised in the Palisades.  Parents still live in the same house now for 50 yrs (both in the 80s).  There's never been an event like this in that neighborhood in our lifetimes.  From Malibu to SM, it's all bad.  Palisades Village is destroyed.  Glad I haven't learned out to post pics.

It sounds like your parents are okay ~ this is a hell of an event.

From the cousin I mentioned in earlier post  (on Facebook):

We have learned that my mom’s Assisted Living was engulfed in flames. Thankfully the wonderful staff and firefighters got everyone evacuated. It was frightening and chaotic wheeling her chair through the strong gusts of winds, thick smoke, embers flying. I am so grateful to everyone who stayed on top of it and kept all these frail seniors safe. The Terraces has been a beautiful home and community for my mom and I am devastated to think that it’s gone. Right behind the Terraces is the Pasadena Jewish Temple. Also caught fire. Tragic loss for the Pasadena Jewish community. Eaton Canyon is a precious wilderness park filled with wildlife. I feel grief for so much loss. And yet grateful for all the lives saved. It’s not over. The winds continue to blow. The fires continue to burn in Pasadena, Pacific Palisades and Sylmar.

This video is insane. According to comments they are fine and had a fire suppression system on the house.

That video is so stressful! The juxtaposition of the music and the flames, and then that they seem calm but not calm... Wow!

Wow!   Crazy.   That fire suppression system is something else.   Hope it doesn't run out of water!

Vibes to everyone in the path of these fires.

> Vibes to everyone in the path of these fires.

Everyone but the shameless self-promotion crowd. Let 'em burn.

My old childhood stomping grounds are getting hit hard by the Eaton Fire...     use to hike Eaton Canyon all the time, as there's multiple waterfalls up there you can jump off.  So much of the damage is in the suburbs, not some mountains / valley homes.

I took a pic of my brother going off one of the Eaton Canyon waterfalls 50 years ago;

Hope the winds calm down today.  Heartbreaking tales of loss.  Most people know to try to help one another.  Looters should get hard time.

El Niño, was there follow up about the guys in the house with the fire suppression system?

Not that I have seen.

Someone should ask Marjorie Taylor Greene and the other hard-line conservatives who a few months ago insisted that the liberals could create storms/control the weather, why they didn't create a rainstorm to put out the LA fires, especially considering LA is a liberal stronghold and the capital of the evil "Hollywood elites".

I'm sure she'd have a very lucid and reasoned response.

derp

^^^^To make it look like they can't control the weather, thereby further concealing their true abilities and furthering the conspiracy?  Such devious bastards.

Ah yes, of course.

Those libs are diabolical geniuses.

A dear friend, from whom I have been mostly estranged the last decade since she came out for Trump, contacted me today to say that the LA fires are to cover up a network of Hollywood pedophile tunnels ahead of Trump returning to office when he will "clean things up." Conspiracy theories used to make me laugh, now they make me angry.

I am watching the live streaming news from LA this Friday night as the fires are kicking up again, and more destruction seems imminent.

^^^ JFC  people are out of their GD minds.

I have been watching all of this in horror for 4 days now. I too have been live streaming from LA.

This is utterly horrific and sad. I had to come in and check and see if my Zoner people are all ok.

Judit I am happy to hear your Mother is safe. Much love to all of you who are being affected by this nightmare. That goes for your family and friends as well. All of my people out there are safe for the moment but they are farther south in the beach communities. It's unlike anything I have ever seen that's for sure.

LA will never be the same after this. So much destruction.

Much Love from Missouri

((((((((((California Love))))))))))

Thanks, dear Okie.  I was copying/pasting my cousin's post from Fb. I'm happy her mom is okay. As you may remember, looking after the needs of one's parent can be heavy. heart

Good to see you back Okie.

The fire's headed for the SFV, with evacuations in Brentwood and Encino this morning.

I blame the liberals.

for judit not liking the doors?????

L.A. Woman is the only doors album I've ever owned

its the only one you need

^^^^   Nice Setlist... Sturgill

sturgill has been doing l.a. woman during his current tour and smoking it. hopefully some dead aheads got turned on to him.

Morrison Hotel is a keeper too.  The Doors also have some great live material.  It's out of print and going to be tougher/pricier to track down, but The Felt Forum box set is worth checking out.  The Alive She Cried EP is also solid.

Good luck to all the Los Angelenos.

There are things you can replace and others you can not.
