LA FIRES WTF

Forums:

How are yall out there? Wth is going on?

All the best.

Hi there. It's very painful, I'm watching a lot of it on TV and nothing is good. Except for a few lives have been lost.

Here is a link to the thread about it, sorry the name doesn't give more way about what's going on in the thread.

The fire in Hollywood has moved fairly close to the house where I grew up, I guess.
Love to you

So sorry Judit ... even though you're not in it, it still hurts to have a connection to it.

Floops, the best map I've seen that shows the progress of the fire is at the bottom of this story: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg525q2ggl4o

randomly noticed in other headlines that Amanda Hearst, Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal have lost their homes. of course these people have other homes or the means to stay in hotels ... so many others won't.

I'm sad about all this.

Altadena is gone...  so much history there!

Daughter evacuated last night as a precaution due to the Sunset fire.  It seems contained now so that's good, but air quality is still a big concern. Crazy stuff!

Seems some arsonists coming out to play too unfortunately

Thanks, Judit.

Yeah, nice title, Dave :)

Hollywood fire started literally across the street (and downhill) from a friend's (really nice) house, fortunately the wind was blowing the fire the other direction and there were no structures burned and it's taken care of now. Close call.

So many people affected, it's gonna be a tough few months down there.

son in law is on the alta dena fire. wishing safety for all the firefighters.

This is like the Oakland Hills fire x 1000. I know three different people who have lost their homes. This is going to send shock waves through the country. Talked to my neighbor this morning on my walk who owns an insurance company and he said expect to see rates quadruple over the next four years. That is assuming anyone out there wants to insure anything anymore. This could easily be a trillion dollar event.

But at least we have steady leadership running the country. After we deport all the construction workers they are going to have to conscript people to build. The Santa Rosa fires a few years ago added 20% to construction costs statewide I can't even imagine what this will do, and it's not like CA can afford to lose thousands of homes.

It's only Jan 9 and this year is already a shit show.

Heartbreaking and hope everyone stays safe.   Hope the winds die down soon because there is zero rain in the forecast.

Crazy to think that Pacific Palisades is just gone.  Burnt.   At least many of the people living there can afford to rebuild:

Does Mayer still live there?

Also, some of the "news" coverage is just sick.  So much finger pointing and politicalizing of the disaster.  Really drowning out the tragedy of it all.  I often will check out Twitter for real time updates on breaking new events, but took one look and almost threw up.

^his affordable electric cars are saving the world, though...

the next 4 years...yikes  :(

My Friend Lost His House In The Palisades ~ Luckily He Has Another House In Ventura.

>>>Does Mayer still live there?

Yes he lives in Beverly Hills. He posted on Instragram the other day that his place is safe from the fires.

Thanks for all the responses. Damn, it's just so destructive. I've been part of a whatsapp group for Angelinos to help in the community.  If anyone wants to join, community is everything. All the best to all out there.

Magic bus in Malibu.

Fuuuuuuuuuck

Believe it or not, that van was in that spot the whole time as the fire raged by.  The side facing uphill is all scorched, plastic parts melted, etc.

What's the source of that picture, not Dave?

CNN on the TV, picture of that taken by my phone.  Emailed to my computer, then 2 types of online compression to limit pixel dimensions and file size to comply with Viva upload rules.

Lol! Ha thanks

A new fire broke out this morning well-north of LA and about 30 miles south of me in an area that's mostly wilderness. Hoping the rain in the forecast for the weekend materializes.

Are the others contained at this point?

Palisades is 68% contained, and Eaton is 91%.

Northbound I-5 CLOSED just north of State Route 126
Southbound I-5 CLOSED at Grapevine Rd

Oh lovely

from CHP:

***UPDATE***

I-5 north and southbound lanes are opened at this time.  Fire crews are working very diligently to keep the fire from threatening the freeway.  Before traveling through the Grapevine check to ensure all lanes are still open.  Be prepared with an alternate in the event north and southbound lanes have to be closed again due to the fire.

Jeez, hope it all stops soon.

Yikes! There is danger at the door...

It's supposed to start raining late Saturday, and Sunday looks like it could be a wet one if the forecast holds.

Rain dances welcome.

I'm dancing, Mike. I'm dancing. God damn let it rain.

So i heard it's raining! Wonderful. Cheers.

We've had about an inch of snow so far this morning. A nice little start.

it sprinkled.

We got about a foot of snow, and it sounds like LA got about an inch of rain. Cue the mudslides.

Yeah, fuck, mud slides... damned if you do, damned if you don't. Shit
