there are several articles online discussing jerry's fondness for bill monroe, and a road trip he took in 1964 to see about joining bill's band. one of these articles(https://gardenandgun.com/articles/jerry-garcias-bluegrass-roots/) mentions that jerry had met bill in los angeles in 1963. i have not been able to find any specifics on this meeting beyond that, but its fun to consider that jerry(and maybe nelson!) was in the audience at this UCLA workshop, or that this preformance in berkeley is pretty much the same as what jerry saw in LA in 1963.
