front and center in the listening room for many years now

Garth had the magic. An incredibly gifted musician and innovator.  The Band are all gone now, but their legacy is eternal.

R.I.P.

The Band are now History, but their Legacy will endure. RIP Garth.

Omg, Rest in peace, Mr. Hudson. I've enjoyed your band broken heart

Unfortunately, 2025 may be the year when a lot of our musical heroes fall by the wayside.

RIP Garth.

Oh no - now they are all gone.  Great Band .

RIP Garth. I don't remember where I first heard the story about Hudson giving music lessons to his bandmates as a way to placate his parents, but it's good to see it included in his NYT obit.

According to Mr. Helm and others, Mr. Hudson had kept turning down pleas to join the Hawks until he was offered a new organ, an extra $10 a week to give the others music lessons and the title “music consultant” — all so that his parents would feel better about their gifted son playing mere rock ’n’ roll.

Imagine it's 1968, living in Berkeley, and you bring home the record Music from Big Pink, put the disc on the record player, the album cover on the mantle, and sit back with a joint and a couple of friends. It was fucking transcendent, thrilling, beyond...
