Laka Luka

Getting ready for the post LeBron years?

Great move by the Lakers if they can get him fit.  I'm sure the trade was a wake up call.  I guess the Mavs went all in on win now with old guys.

I'd hate to be the Mavs leadership pulling that trigger but let's see how it shakes out.  I figure they have a two year window to win now.

Miriam Adelson bought the Mavs a few years ago. She owns the Venetian, Palazzo, and part of the Sphere in Las Vegas. The rest of this is my opinion. She is going to move the Mavs to Las Vegas, but she needs league approval for that, and Luka was about to be eligible for a super max contract. There is zero need to have a player on super max when you are about to move the team because they will sell out for the first five years no matter who is on the team. Just look at the Raiders. Back to she needs league approval.  The NBA wants the Lakers to be competitive they are the face of the league, so in exchange for allowing the Mavs to move to Las Vegas they had to give up a top 5 player who is 25 for a oft injured 31 year old. No way in hell the Mavs win with AD over Luka the guy that brought them to the finals last year.

Also Miriam Adelson is one of Trumps top donors.

Luka is overweight and injury prone.

The Mavs got the better player.

I'll just leave what Giannis said here:

If a five-time All-NBA first-team, a 25-year-old, a guy that just made it to the Finals seven months ago, a guy that led the league in scoring, a guy that finished second or third in MVP voting, a guy that scored 70-something points one time, a guy that had a 60-point triple-double, a guy that knows how to play the game of basketball, I can keep going and going, an All-Star, not just an All-Star, an All-Star starter, a guy that averaged 34/9/10, but I'm not here to talk about Luka and how good he is, I think everybody in the world knows he's one of the best players in the league

Meh, he is basically another LeBron type small forward.  The Lakers were already height-challenged.  Swapping AD for Doncic doesn't help that scenario any.  They'll now need an All-Star caliber performance from Rui Hachimura for the rest of the year to have a shot.  That ain't going to happen.

Absolutely it's not about this year it's about building around Luca for the future once LeBron leaves. We'll see if they can get a big before the trade deadline for this year, but reports are that the league GM's are pissed that the Mavs didn't shop Luca and only called the Lakers. Then again there are also reports that LeBron and Durant are going to the Warriors.

And the real move up is the San Antonio Spurs, and the under the radar pick up of Aaron Fox, a move for this years run.

and once again Sactown loses the media exposure race to the Lakeshow

It wasn't under the radar in Sac Town everyone knew this was coming. Fox wasn't going to resign and wanted to move back to Texas.

I have my doubts about Fox. His main attribute is speed and that is going to go down hill and he is under sized for playing in the paint and he can't shoot the three except for one year. He is a really good player but don't think he is going to be an all star again, but who knows maybe Wemby will make him into and all star.

hot take kexla. you may have something.

ad is having his best season in years. i do like him, he doesn't get the love he should. that being said, fans cringe every time he falls. unfortunate he has been injury free up to just before the trade.

luka IS a top 3 player, ad is not. if he is with a winning organization and staff, hopefully he can get the conditioning thing together. joker isn't exactly a kobe/lebron type worker and still manages....

pretty shocked, and yeah both lebron and him need the ball...

we need a center.

Agreed that is a hot take.   Makes sense too but I feel like Dallas is a supportive market.

>>>Meh, he is basically another LeBron type small forward.

I think anyone in their right mind would take another LeBron.   AD is also injury prone and will be fading like most big men in two years.  His upside is shorter.

also fox is a very good/elite guard. he has really blossomed the last 2 years. there is a reason the spurs grabbed him. they are the best run team in the nba and really never make a bad pick.

Western Conference standings

Lakers 5th

Kings 8th
Mavs 11th

Spurs 12th.

i meant under the radar as in - no one heard about the Kings move because the Laker's move drowned them out

jimmy buckets is out there, waiting to cause trouble for another team on the gamble

Sacramento is pretty used to be drowned out by the Lakers. National commentary except for Mark Jones who does the Kings games when he isn't doing national games is always laughable. It is so obvious they don't watch the Kings at all.

Jimmy should only play on a top 5 defensive team, because for every 3 he makes he gives up at least 2 on the other end right now away, and teams target him as soon as he enters the game.

I've probably watched 90% of the games Fox has played in the NBA and he isn't elite. His super power was slashing to the rim but after a few years of that he realized that his body wouldn't last doing that, and Kings don't get calls from the refs like other teams do. So two summers ago he worked out with Steph Curry, because he knew he was going to need to develop an outside shot. That worked for half of last season and then it disappeared. He isn't a good consistent outside shooter and really don't think he ever will be. He chucks it up like Steph but his don't fall. His shot selection is pretty horrible. That is why he turns it on in 4th quarters slashing to the rim but he can't sustain that for a whole game. He also really isn't much of a point guard. Sabonis brings the ball up more than him, and most of the plays revolve around him.

Finally there was no brilliance on the part of San Antonio on this. Fox wanted to move back to Texas where his family was from. He has one more year on his reasonable contract and after next season he will be very expensive. We'll see if SA keeps him at that point, but a great move for them for this and next year.

Jonas Valanciunas to the Kings. Great move and the Lakers are welcome to Alex Len now.

Kings did great especially getting those number 1 picks, allowed them to drop them worthless 2nd round picks on Jonas

oh please Draymond bitch smack Jimmy Buckets like you did that young buck a couple years ago. Jimmy will take him out.
Not sure this helps the Warriors in getting another ship

where is Durante going? the title will follow, unless he stays with the suns

ps. fox is a top 10 guard in most fantasy rankings. i know that is not real, but the production in there.

i hope jimmy shoves the ball in draymonds face.

>>>>i hope jimmy shoves the ball in draymonds face.

This.   That was a weird trade.   Everyone says it's an upgrade but I'm not sure I would have made it.   Especially after Butler said no to the warriors a month ago.

Do the lakers have much of a bench after these trades?  I feel like we've seen this movie before - solid starting five and then no depth.

Jimmy grabs $121 for 2 seasons? Lol...wow. He's good but....

pat riley....still wiley...

Warriors trying to one up the Suns team chemistry while Kerr looks the other way.

Really seems like a transition time in the NBA. The good teams are now loaded with all round players that play both ends of the floor, and the Days of The Big Name Players grouping together is washing out. The Sixers are still in the midst of The Process, which straw will they grab next? the last?

Wow Wemby out for the season. Sucks for him and the NBA, but I sure do think it's funny that Fox now has to be number 1 again. Give it a few days and he will announce he is getting surgery on his finger and the Spurs will tank for another number 1 draft pick.

Flabby Luka and the Lake Show lose to a team that is tanking.

where is LeBron next year?

Hello Cleveland!

Wemby is not built to be durable imo, could be the next Embid that plays half a season and never delivers.

How are all those Load Management old timers doing? The Clippers are the only ones that will make it to the playoffs. Speaking of the Clippers, they need to change their logo to a pair of Scissors, it would be a marketing windfall. The mascot could run around the arena with a pair in each hand, or maybe get Edward Scissorhands to do the gig. Fans could bring their own pair to use as noisemakers, and could bring them out at rally time and call it scissor grind time. Of course the new sponsor of the team would need to be an insurance carrier, and they could sell game night policies on the concourse.

lol fabes.

yeah, wemby....we'll see but it would be a shame to see his career shut beofre it begins. mad skills.

i'll take flabby luka. the dude took the mavs to the finals....beat joker getting there.

and the clips....lol...ha ha. why the fuck is the logo a cruise ship? why not a clipper ship? tall mast....? the logo is trash. stupid billionaire's crowd section behind the hoop....dude should have moved the team to seattle. they will always be second fiddle.

>>>where is LeBron next year?

He is in LA. It will be a retirement year love fest with the All Star game in LA which will be All LeBron.

You are much wiser than me El Niño - great call

Nah just listen to sports talk radio in the car because I can't take listening to the news anymore
