What if Viva disappears? Is there an emergency backup spot?

Forums:

While I could have my morning coffee without perusing the black screen, I'd be quite bummed if this website just -- poof -- disappeared one day without warning due to some unforeseen event (natural disaster, server company bankruptcy, hacking, nuclear meltdown, political suppression, someone tripped over the plug, etc....).

What would one do? Is there a back up meet up spot for Zoners to get Zoner news? Some Reddit thread? Ratdog.org? Greenboard? Some phone number to call to get the address of an Internet safe house? Otherwise, it would just be a mystery.

"Emergency meeting spots are crucial to surviving a disaster, an unfortunate event, or simply getting lost in a crowded place. It is the spot or point that every member of your family can easily access and rally towards in the wake of unforeseen circumstances. Establishing an emergency meeting spot eliminates worry over your friends and family when something disastrous happens. This spot will improves your chances of finding every member of your group."

i made this awhile ago but my reddit acct got banned and it looks like atiex was sucsessful in taking it over as mod, but submissions are still restricted.

https://old.reddit.com/r/philzone/

its a setting he has to change somewhere i think. ill send him a reddit message i guess. i dont think there is much use for this subreddit ATM but it is an easy backup in the case of something like what youre talking about, since it doesnt actually need to be maintained by anyone or cost money, reddit will leave inactive subreddits up for ages. however, if the subreddit is unmoderated, it becomes restricted, but then another reddit user can request to take it over as mod, which it looks like atiex did here, but the restriction hasnt been removed yet...im guessing its just some box he needs to check/uncheck in the moderator settings. if something were to happen to atiex's account and the subreddit because restricted again years in the future, any zoner could use a reddit account to request moderator status and reopen the subreddit for communication.

the one weak spot in the idea of this subreddit as a permanent and easy PZ backup space is that if it were to become unmoderated and restricted in the future, any reddit user could request to take it over and could change it and moderate it as they saw fit, so in that case it would still technically be usable but we'd be at the whims of some rando outsider who might change my awesome PZ color scheme and layout. FYI if you just go to reddit.com/philzone and use the new reddit layout, you just get this boring old generic reddit layout but if you go to old.reddit.com/r/philzone/ and use the old reddit layout, you get the cool PZ color scheme and philzone logo i put in.

^ Well, that's probably better than clogging up Mike's landline answering machine.

(always have a plan B)

Boulder Bandshell.  Bring a sandwich.

so long as we are alive, the black screen shall persist.

this is a timely thread because we may be compelled to make some technical changes in the coming year or two as we begin to move past the version of Drupal we used to build this website. it's been nearly a decade since the og site passed on and we stood this one up (sheesh, time flies!). anyway, not much else to say about it atm, but it should make for good community discussion in the future about where we want to take this project.

The decades just fly by now.... if Happy Days was made now it would be about growing up in ...2005? Weird

I'd miss seeing your posts Alan as you're my latest crush

Reminds me a little bit of when we had the t-shirts with numbers on them and a playlist or whatever you call it

But we don't have shows to all meet at anymore

What lava said. We are here. You are here. We all scream for ice cream.

The community is real and important to all of us.

Since it's that kind of thread, thanks to you all for being here. Love.

That hasn't been a problem since I figured out I could turn the tape over. Have at it: 800-382-5633.
