I'm thinking that this might be my favorite Phil and Friends line up besides the Grateful Dead

These are were great shows. Phil starting to rekindle the flickering flame of the Grateful Dead.

Mookie was killing it.

A super chill scene as a lot of people were out of town due to the impending 4th of July holiday. Plenty of room inside the Warfield both nights. High times.

ive always wondered why phil never revisited this lineup for a full tour or something. id imagine everyone would have been available and willing at the time. maybe he just got caught up in the chemistry of the Q and then the years passed on.

Herring/Haynes kinda drift into Allman bros. licks  during the improvisational portions where as Kimock/Sless keep the jams more Grateful Dead-y

Add the Mighty David Nelson bending strings into tomorrow, lift off!!

Well, in July of '99 he was just getting started with the P&F concept; he may have not been thinking about a regular band or full tours at that point.

Plus, Kimock fell (was pushed?) off the bus not long after, and it's pretty clear that for whatever reasons Phil was never fully on board with Sless on guitar.

Still, these were very groovy, articulate shows and I would have been happy to see that combo more, ESPECIALLY more shows with Billy.

One of my all time favorite P&F moments was the beginning of the first night of these shows, when they opened with Cryptical and then Billy went into the classic drums start of The Other One. When Phil jumped in and those two began wrapping around each other the way they had for 30 years I was reminded of the brilliant and completely unique symmetry that existed between Phil & Billy.

THAT was fucking great.

I respect Phil's decision to move away from Garcia imitators at that point, and wanting to play with various musicians, but then, there's Further.

Here's a really killer DNB video with Bill the drummer

Oh, what a mighty time

I shot video of that whole show. Was awesome.
