Commemorating Jerry's Golden Gate Park bust

Forums:

There's bound to be some people (probably on Reddit) that want to mark Jerry's 40th anniversary bust with some crack smoking of their own before the shows. Possible lot gathering even. It's conveniently close to the Polo Fields. Here's the address:

Middle Drive West (north of Metson Lake)

Has anyone made the pilgrimage there before?

Here is the list from the police log:

1 brown briefcase containing misc papers

1 SFPD issue property envelope [ed: containing at least next three items]

$990 (16x $50, 9x $20, 1x $10)

3 paper bindles containing brown powder (found in rose tin)

1 baggie of 6 cotton swabs

1 plastic container liquid

1 glass container liquid

8 pieces of foil with burnt residue

11 paper bindles with brown residue in a bag found in briefcase

1 paper bindle of white powder found in briefcase

1 Zip-Loc baggie containing 1 yellow legal paper bindle containing white powder, labeled "1/2 gram"

1 paper bindle with brown rock like substance

1 cooking glass with prong holders

7 cigarette lighters

1 razor

1 4" metal tool

1 zipper brown pouch 6" x 4"

1 seven of hearts playing card

1 rose metal box 4" x 2"

Jerry must have left the AK-47s at home that day because they weren't mentioned.

Anyone know the significance of the seven of hearts?

My first show was, I believe, Jerry's first post bust performance:

2/18/85 Kaiser, Oakland

Iko Iko C.C. Rider Dire Wolf Cassidy Ramble on Rose Me and My Uncle Mexicali Blues China Cat Sunflower I Know You Rider Samson and Delilah He's Gone Spoonful Eyes of the World Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad drums China Doll Baby What You Want Me to Do Sugar Magnolia Day Job

You can't drive along that section of Middle Drive any longer, but it's open for pedestrians and bikes and is easily accessible from the Polo Field.

During summer heat waves when it was too hot to walk my dog in the South Bay I used to take him up to GGP and that stretch was a favorite part of our walks. As with most areas of that park, it's beautiful along that road and is always worth an effort to walk around there.

I miss those walks.

Someone should put up a plaque.

1 brown briefcase containing misc papers>>>

Hunter was upset that some of his work was swept up in the arrest and was lost forever..

I used to drive back to  Lake St from a friends house in the Sunset late at night (stoned) in my 61 VW.  I'd jump on the Middle Drive off of Sunset Blvd and punch it- it was like driving through the Rocky Mountains I imagined. Cool little sprint - no cops around.  Metson Lake is a mellow spot.

i genuinely thought this thread was going to be about some upcoming statue of jerry planned to be erected in ggp

I heard it was going to be a John Mayer statue.

err It's part of the Super VIP DeadCo 60th package...

Anyone know the significance of the seven of hearts?<<<

Similar to a credit card, probably used to chop and align the various powders.

Sure, that works, but it's lot more utilitarian than I was thinking. Garcia spent his life singing about cards, and the seven of hearts just seems so random.

Seven is a lucky number.  Hearts symbolize love.

Maybe he was hoping to be lucky in love?  Wasn't that about the time Debra Koons and Jerry reconnected?

In a way, he did eventually find his way back to Barbara Meier, but he folded and tossed the seven of hearts into the lion's den.

Given the location of the bust, I always assumed he was coming back from south of SF somewhere and decided a little pit stop might be in order, before going back over the bridge.

McNally said Jerry was on his way to rehab but that seemed like friendly cover. People normally don't drive to their own rehab, they get taken there.

I've always wondered that myself^
